INTERTURBINE TEMPERATURE INDICATING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

(Airplanes -0001 thru -0359)

1. Description
A. An Interturbine Temperature Indicating Electrical Schematic is provided to aid the maintenance
technician in system understanding. Refer to Figure 1.
B. The engine interturbine temperature (ITT) indicating system consists of a dual channel cockpit display
and wiring to each engine-mounted ITT connector.
C. ITT is displayed on one of the integrated engine instruments mounted in the center instrument panel.
Refer to Integrated Engine Instruments - Maintenance Practices (Airplanes -0001 thru -0359).
(1) ITT is displayed in degrees Celsius (°C). The range of the display is 200-1100 (°C, with the scale
from 800-1100 °C expanded for more precise indication.
(2) ITT is presented in vertical tape format. Separate displays are provided for each engine.
(3) The left and right voltage and signal inputs to the indicator are separate.
D. Red, yellow, and green markings on the temperature scale indicate warning, caution, and normal
operating ranges. Refer to Chapter 71 for specific ITT operating ranges and limitation.
E. A chromel-alumel thermocouple transmitting system provides the input signal to the indicator. Refer
to the Williams-Rolls FJ44-1A Engine Maintenance Manual for maintenance information on the ITT
probes and wiring harness. Refer to Introduction, Supplier Publication List

2. Operation
A. The engine ITT probes respond to rising temperature in the intermediate turbine section, producing
an electrical signal that is averaged by the engine ITT chromel-alumel wiring harness. The airplane
wiring transmits this signal to the ITT indicator.
B. Each channel in the indicator receives a signal from the corresponding engine ITT harness. The signal
is used by the indicator to produce a vertical tape display of ITT in °C.
C. For lighting and test operation of the indicator, refer to Integrated Engine Instruments - Maintenance
Practices (Airplanes -0001 thru -0359).
