1. Scope
A. This chapter describes those units and components and associated systems which indicate engine
operation.
3. Description
A. This chapter is divided into sections to aid maintenance personnel in locating information. A brief
description of the sections are as follows:
(1) The sections on power indicating describe those systems which indicate power or thrust. This
includes the fan speed (N1) indicating system and the turbine speed (N2) indicating system.
(2) The section on temperature indicating describes the engine interturbine temperature (ITT)
indicating system.
(3) The section on integrated engine instruments describes the instruments that collect and display
several different engine operating parameters.

1. Description
A. A Fan Speed (N1) indicating system consists of a dual channel cockpit display and wiring to the fan
(low-pressure shaft) magnetic speed pickup assembly on each engine.
B. The Engine Fan Speed (N1) Indicating Electrical Schematic is provided to aid the maintenance
technician in system understanding. Refer to Figure 1.
C. Fan speed is displayed on one of the integrated engine instruments mounted in the center instrument
panel. Refer to Integrated Engine Instruments - Maintenance Practices.
(1) Fan speed is displayed in % RPM. The range of the tape display is 0-110 % RPM, with the scale
from 80-110 % RPM expanded for more precise indication.
(2) Fan speed is presented in vertical tape and digital liquid crystal diode (LCD) format. Separate
tape and digital displays are provided for each engine.
(3) The left and right voltage and signal inputs to the indicator are separate.
D. The fan speed pickup assembly, supplied with the engine, provides an alternating current signal input
to the indicator. Refer to the Williams-Rolls FJ44-1A Engine Maintenance Manual for maintenance
information on the magnetic pickup assemblies.
2. Operation
A. The engine fan speed magnetic pickup assembly produces a two phase alternating current with
frequency proportional to the rotational speed of the fan. The current is the input signal for the
indicator.
B. Each channel in the indicator receives a signal from the corresponding magnetic speed pickup
assembly. The signal is used by the indicator to produce both a digital and vertical tape display of
fan rotational speed in % RPM.
C. For lighting and test operation of the indicator, refer to Integrated Engine Instruments - Maintenance
Practices.

1. General
A. This section provides a functional test procedure for the engine fan speed indicating system.
1. Description
A. A Turbine Speed (N2) Indicating Electrical Schematic is provided to aid the maintenance technician in
system understanding. Refer to Figure 1.
B. The engine turbine speed (N2) indicating system consists of a dual channel cockpit display and wiring
to the turbine (high-pressure shaft) magnetic speed pickup assembly on each engine.
C. Turbine speed is displayed on one of the integrated engine instruments mounted in the center
instrument panel. Refer to Integrated Engine Instruments - Maintenance Practices.
(1) Turbine speed is displayed in % RPM in digital liquid crystal diode (LCD) format. Separate digital
displays are provided for each engine.
(2) One green and one red indicator light are next to each digital display.
(3) The left and right voltage and signal inputs to the indicator are separate.
D. The turbine speed pickup assembly, supplied with the engine, provides an alternating current
signal input to the indicator. Refer to the Williams-Rolls FJ44-1A Engine Maintenance Manual for
maintenance information on the magnetic pickup assemblies.

C. The green indicator light next to each digital display will illuminate when that engine turbine speed is
between 52% RPM and 99.2% RPM. The green light shall be illuminated and the red light shall be
extinguished. The green light shall be illuminated and the red light flashing at turbine speed 99.3%
RPM. When turbine speed is between 99.9% to 100.0% the green light shall be extinguished and the
red light shall be flashing.
D. For lighting and test operation of the indicator, refer to Integrated Engine Instruments - Maintenance
Practices.

1. General
A. This section provides a functional test procedure for the engine turbine speed indicating system.
NOTE: If reading exceeds tolerance limit, check all airplane electrical connections in the
turbine speed indicating system and repeat the functional test.
1. General
A. The standby N1 indicator (EI041) shows the current fan speed in percent RPM for the left and right
engines in a digital format. The fan speed is also shown on the Multifunctional Flight Display (MFD)
in the center instrument panel in a digital and vertical tape format.

1. General
A. This section contains the information that is needed to find and correct unserviceable components in
the engine fan speed computer system.
B. This section is to be used along with the Adjustment/Test section for the engine Fan Speed (N1)
computer system. Refer to Engine Fan Speed (N1) Computer System - Adjustment/Test.
3. Troubleshooting
A. The Display is Blank.
(1) If the display unit is blank, examine the following possible causes.
(a) Electrical power is not found at pin 13 of the electrical connector (PI068).
(b) The resistor (RF001) between the circuit breaker (HF167) and pin 13 of the electrical
connector is the wrong size.
(c) The ARINC signal from the Air Data Computer is not found at pins 1 and 2 of the electrical
connector (PI068).
(d) The anti-ice condition is not correct.
NOTE: The computer does a check for electrical shorts or broken wires in the
Engine/Wing Anti-Ice circuit.
NOTE: For the Model 525 airplane, pins 5 and 11 of the electrical connector (PI068)
must be electrically open.
B. A Number Other Than 888 is Shown When the System Receives Electrical Power.
(1) If the display unit shows a number other than 888 when started, examine the following possible
causes.
(a) Pin 3 of the electrical connector (PI068) does not have a ground from the squat switch
system.
(b) The resistor (RF001) between the circuit breaker (HF167) and pin 13 of the electrical
connector is the wrong size.
(c) The ARINC signal from the Air Data Computer is shorted on either pin 1 or 2 of the electrical
connector (PI068).
C. The 888 Shown on the Display Does Not Change When the N1 Control Knob is Pushed.
(1) If the 888 shown on the display does not change when the N1 control know is pushed, examine
the following possible causes.
(a) The resistor (RF001) between the circuit breaker (HF167) and pin 13 of the electrical
connector is the wrong size.
(b) The Mode Select Knob on the computer is not serviceable.
D. The Display Shows --- (3 dashes) in the TO/GA and In Air Position.
(1) If the display shows --- (3 dashes) in the TO/GA position and the squat switch signal is set to the
IN AIR position, examine the following possible causes.
(a) The temperature was not set on the ground.
(b) The mode was changed from another position to the TO/GA position when the pressure
altitude was more than 15,500 feet.
(c) The Total Air Temperature (TAT) signal is out of range.
E. The Display Shows ---(3 dashes) in the CLB and In Air Position.
(1) If the display shows --- (3 dashes) in the CLB position and the squat switch signal is set to the
IN AIR position, examine the following possible causes.
(a) The 28 VDC signal is not connected to pin 12 of the electrical connector (PI068).
(b) The squat switch signal on pin 3 of the electrical connector (PI068) is grounded.
(c) The Total Air Temperature (TAT) signal is out of range for the anti-ice switch position
selected.
F. The Display Shows ---(3 dashes) in the CRU and In Air Position.
(1) If the display shows --- (3 dashes) in the CRU position and the squat switch signal is set to the
IN AIR position, examine the following possible causes.
(a) The 28 VDC signal is not connected to pin 12 of the electrical connector (PI068).
(b) The squat switch signal on pin 3 of the electrical connector (PI068) is grounded.
(c) The Total Air Temperature (TAT) signal is out of range for the anti-ice switch position
selected.
G. The Intensity of the Display Does Not Decrease When the Panel Lights are in the ON Position.
(1) If the intensity of the display does not decrease when the panel lights are on, examine the
following possible causes.
(a) The 28 VDC signal is not found at pin 8 of the electrical connector (PI068) when the panel
lights are on.
H. The Display is Always Dim.
(1) If the display is always dim, examine the following possible causes.
(a) The 28 VDC signal is always found at pin 8 of the electrical connector (PI068) even when
the panel lights are off.
I. The Indication Shown on the Display is Different Than the Target Fan Speed Curves. Refer to Engine
Fan Speed (N1) Computer System - Adjustment/Test.
(1) If the indication shown on the display is different from the target fan speed curves shown in
Engine Fan Speed (N1) Computer System - Adjustment/Test, examine the following possible
causes.
(a) Make sure the anti-ice system signals to the computer are correct.
(b) Push and hold the Mode Select Knob to make sure the temperature input from the Air Data
Computer is correct.
(c) The 28 VDC signal is not connected to pin 12 of the electrical connector (PI068).
(d) The airplane model selected is not correct.
NOTE: For the Model 525 airplane, pins 5 and 11 of the electrical connector (PI068)
must be electrically open.

(12) Disengage L IGNITION and R IGNITION circuit breakers, located on left circuit breaker panel.
B. Perform Functional Test of C-12432-1 N1 Computer System. (Refer to Figure 501 , Figure 502, Figure
503, Figure 504, andFigure 505 ).
(1) Set an indication of 29.92 inches Hg. on altimeter.
(2) Adjust altitude to zero feet and airspeed to zero on air data tester.

A. An Interturbine Temperature Indicating Electrical Schematic is provided to aid the maintenance
technician in system understanding. Refer to Figure 1.
B. The engine interturbine temperature (ITT) indicating system consists of a dual channel cockpit display
and wiring to each engine-mounted ITT connector.
C. ITT is displayed on one of the integrated engine instruments mounted in the center instrument panel.
Refer to Integrated Engine Instruments - Maintenance Practices (Airplanes -0001 thru -0359).
(1) ITT is displayed in degrees Celsius (°C). The range of the display is 200-1100 (°C, with the scale
from 800-1100 °C expanded for more precise indication.
(2) ITT is presented in vertical tape format. Separate displays are provided for each engine.
(3) The left and right voltage and signal inputs to the indicator are separate.
D. Red, yellow, and green markings on the temperature scale indicate warning, caution, and normal
operating ranges. Refer to Chapter 71 for specific ITT operating ranges and limitation.
E. A chromel-alumel thermocouple transmitting system provides the input signal to the indicator. Refer
to the Williams-Rolls FJ44-1A Engine Maintenance Manual for maintenance information on the ITT
probes and wiring harness. Refer to Introduction, Supplier Publication List
2. Operation
A. The engine ITT probes respond to rising temperature in the intermediate turbine section, producing
an electrical signal that is averaged by the engine ITT chromel-alumel wiring harness. The airplane
wiring transmits this signal to the ITT indicator.
B. Each channel in the indicator receives a signal from the corresponding engine ITT harness. The signal
is used by the indicator to produce a vertical tape display of ITT in °C.
C. For lighting and test operation of the indicator, refer to Integrated Engine Instruments - Maintenance
Practices (Airplanes -0001 thru -0359).

1. General
A. This section provides information to aid technicians in determining the cause of excessive interturbine
temperature split.
NOTE: Charts for ground run of engine are provided for technician to record engine parameter
data during testing. A comparable chart is also located in Williams/Rolls FJ44-1A
Maintenance Manual.

A. This section provides a functional test procedure for the engine interturbine temperature (ITT)
indicating system.
NOTE: If any reading exceeds tolerance limit, check all airplane electrical connections in
the ITT indicating system and repeat the functional test.
1. Description
A. Three separate integrated engine instruments collect and display engine operating information. The
instruments are mounted in the center instrument panel.
(1) The N1/ITT indicator displays left and right engine fan speed (N1) in digital and vertical tape
format, and left and right interturbine temperature (ITT) in vertical tape format.
(2) The N2/OIL PRESS/OIL TEMP indicator displays left and right engine turbine speed (N2) in digital
format, and left and right oil pressure and temperature in vertical tape format.
(3) The FUEL FLOW/FUEL QTY indicator displays left and right engine fuel flow in digital format,
and left and right fuel quantity in vertical tape format.

1. Description
A. The Engine Indication System consists of two data concentrator units and two engine data
concentrator units configured to the left and right side of the airplane.
B. One data concentrator unit and one engine data concentrator unit are paired and installed in the
tailcone of the airplane, aft of the tailcone baggage compartment.
2. Operation
A. Each data concentrator unit digitizes airplane data input for the avionics system. The data
concentrator unit codes the airplane data into the integrated avionics processing system data
concentrators and adaptive flight displays.
B. Each engine data concentrator digitizes engine data input for the avionics system and receives serial
data from the integrated avionics processing system data concentrators. After receiving analog and
discrete data input from the engines and the onside AlliedSignal automatic direction finder, the receiver
and transponder of each engine data concentrator generates the crew alerting system messages and
provides the flight data acquisition unit with stall warning functions. The engine data concentrator
codes the airplane data into the integrated avionics processing system and the adaptive flight display.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
1. General
A. This section contains instructions for removal and installation of the Rockwell Collins data concentrator
units and engine data concentrator units.
B. One data concentrator unit and one engine data concentrator unit are paired and installed in the
tailcone of the airplane, aft of the tailcone baggage compartment.
C. For maintenance, troubleshooting, and adjustment/test procedures not included in this manual, refer
to the manufacturer's maintenance manual. Refer to the Introduction, Supplier Publication List.
NOTE: Removal and installation of left hand and right hand data concentrator units are typical.
(1) Disengage both LH DCU PRI and LH DCU SEC circuit breakers located on left circuit breaker
panel or RH DCU PRI and RH DCU SEC circuit breakers located on the right circuit breaker
panel.
(2) Remove aft baggage compartment panel 322BC. Refer to Chapter 6, Access Plates And Panels
Identification - Description And Operation.
(3) Disconnect electrical connectors (PT073, PT077 and PT081, left or PT076, PT080 and PT084,
right) from the data concentrator unit (UT023, left or UT022, right).
(4) Loosen and remove screws and spacers attaching the data concentrator unit (UT023, left or
UT022, right) to the engine data concentrator unit (UT025, left, or UT024, right).
(5) Remove the data concentrator unit from the engine data concentrator unit.
B. Remove Data Concentrator Unit Models -0600 thru -0684, -0686 thru -0799. (Refer to Figure 201)
(1) Disengage both LH DCU PRI and LH DCU SEC circuit breakers located on left circuit breaker
panel or RH DCU PRI and RH DCU SEC circuit breakers located on the right circuit breaker
panel.
(2) Remove nose baggage compartment panel 212LZ for right hand or 211LZ for left hand data
concentrator unit. Refer to Chaper 6, Access Plates And Panels Identification - Description and
Operation.
(3) Disconnect electrical connectors from the data concentrator unit.
(4) Loosen and remove screws attaching the data concentrator unit to nose baggage compartment.
(5) Remove the data concentrator unit from nose baggage compartment.
C. Install Data Concentrator Unit Models -0360 thru -0599 (Refer to Figure 201).
(1) Install data concentrator unit (UT023, left or UT022, right) with screws and spacers to the engine
data concentrator unit (UT025, left or UT024, right) and angle.
(2) Connect electrical connectors (PT073, PT077 and PT081, left or PT076, PT080 and PT084,
right) to data concentrator units (UT023, left or UT022, right).
(3) Engage both LH DCU PRI and LH DCU SEC circuit breakers located on the left circuit breaker
panel or RH DCU PRI and RH DCU SEC circuit breakers located on the right circuit breaker
panel.
(4) Install aft baggage compartment panel 322BC. Refer to Chapter 6, Access Plates And Panels
Identification - Description And Operation.
D. Install Data Concentrator Unit Models -0600 thru -0684, -0686 thru -0799. (Refer to Figure 201
(1) Install data concentrator unit with screws to the nose baggage compartment.
(2) Connect electrical connectors to data concentrator unit.
(3) Engage both LH DCU PRI and LH DCU SEC circuit breakers located on the left circuit breaker
panel or RH DCU PRO and RH DCU SEC circuit breakers located on the right circuit breaker
panel.
(4) Install nose baggage compartment panel 212LZ for right hand or 211LZ for left hand data
concentrator unit. Refer to Chapter 6, Access Plates And Panels Identification - Description
And Operation.
1. General
A. The Collins Pro Line 21 Engine Indication System receives electrical inputs from the FADEC
for interturbine temperature (ITT), fan speed indication (N1), turbine speed indication (N2), oil
temperature, oil pressure, fuel flow, and message display areas.
B. The FADEC uses throttle detents on the throttle quadrant to show TLA position on the MFD.
C. For the FADEC and Collins Pro Line 21 maintenance practices refer to the applicable chapters.
