Before a design was produced that suited the needs, comfort level, and

other concerns of the client, the project's final layout was designed and

assessed for several days. The residence's location will be located in the

Northeast of Heightsville village in a 180 sqm, approximately 10 meters by

18 meters—as the owner have bought the lot. In this regard, the single

storey/bungalow house’s square meter apparently reaches about 113.75

square meters subtracting the R1 (Residential Type) setbacks for

shadings, extra public spaces as well as to have placements for window

type aircons as per National Building Code of the Philippines. The porch,

which is directly connected to main house, is a dwelling piece that adds

visual dimensions with asymmetrical roof allows precipitation of rain to

slide right off . This porch was elevated by a platform with three steps

before the main flooring, which has an individual rise of 0.1 meters. In

total, the platform has a floor level of 0.4 meters above the ground.

Because it gives the locals a sense of change, this elevation change has a

specific impact on them. Furthermore, this enhances the structure's

aesthetic value and identity. The Bungalow is elevated into a heigh ceiling

that approximately reaches for about 4 meters high in order to have, the

main buildings of the house per se is also have a slanted roof in which the

pitch reduces the beating taken by a roof and allows it to have more

ventilation and illusion of wide space inside. Having identified the

entrance of the house, the rooms are arranged from public to private

spaces. The front part of the house will function as a public area that is

open to visitors. Additionally, the property's middle section will be the semi-
private area, which will have utilities and other components that serve as a

transition and divider between the public and private areas. Last but not

least, the private space, which is primarily made up of bedrooms, will be

located at the back of the home, deflecting attention. Primarily, the section

in this house is just composed between two types—the public spaces and

private spaces since the house is considering a bungalow type single-

storey which limits the number of rooms that being utilized.

A. Public Spaces

By entering the door of tis small bungalow house, a living room will

welcome the guests before going beyond the house—perfectly suitable for the

residents that will be occupying the space who has frequently a lot of guests.

A small l-shaped sofa can minimize the space wit a round centerpiece in

which complements the difference of the shapes surrounded. Also, it consists

as well with large high ceiling window for more ventilation since the house is

logically layout in a compact manner. Adding high and thin cabinets can also

work maximizing the space. After passing this area, they will be led to open-

type dining area which has an access from living room along the east side,

where people can also discuss matters, eating with people with a dining table

having capacity of 5-8 persons. This area of the house consists of the rooms

and locations that offer food, supplies, water, and gas. Due to its proximity to

the main lobby, the dining area enables the owners to offer various meals to

their visitors with ease. The kitchen is located next to the dining room and is
where all of the food preparation and cooking takes place. The flooring in the

kitchen is elevated in comparison to the dining room due to a raise in floor

elevation. Despite there not being a wall between the dining area and kitchen

area, this is done to add more dimension to the separation. Additionally, the

kitchen's fixtures will act as a partition between the two.

Leading directly to the kitchen which has consisting of g-shaped kitchen layout

in which following the triangle rule, even a two-door refrigerator can fit in the

kitchen, there are cabinets and cupboard above the sink. It was reasonably

adjacent to bathroom for sinks pipes plumbing and water supply purposes .

Lastly, a backdoor was also connected between the kitchen and dining area for

accessibility in throwing garbage, getting a laundry in a faster and quicker route.

In which also provides a different atmosphere by having an open-air surround

and natural ventilation from two windows directed to dining area. The backdoor

along dining area is connected to a mini garden path into a side-yard walkway

with stone-paved pathway. It can be transformed into a mini garden or a lanai,

Additionally, viewing the trees in the southeast corner of the lot increases the

sense that you are on vacation by allowing you to interact with nature. These

rooms in the house are where people typically congregate. As a result, the

design of the aforementioned locations places a strong emphasis on capturing

and making use of the natural light offered by the rising sun in order to give them

more vitality and significance. This was accomplished by opening the building's

vast windows and doors to let light enter. They were windows. Facing the north-

east edge of the property, where the daylight comes from. Additionally, it was

angled in this way to provide a tranquil view of the landscaping next to the

house. Given that there is a backyard, there is also a backdoor with sliding glass
doors on the back portion of the house, it allows to have easy access towards

private and semi-private spaces such as bedrooms and lavatory.

B. Private Spaces

Finally, for convenience, the bathroom and toilet are located next to the kitchen and

dining area. The northern door of the side yard, which will connect directly to it, or

just passing via the dining and kitchen sections are other ways to enter the public

spaces. The screen and door on the lanai serve as the area's main points of interest

and create a calm atmosphere by offering a glimpse of the shrubs and tiny trees

outside the house. Particularly in the morning when the family will be eating their first

meal of the day before starting their agendas, the lighting in the dining and kitchen

areas contributes to the area's liveliness. This issue emphasizes the screens

installed on the lanai's practical side. The screens' aesthetic value is secondary to

their goal of bringing sunlight into the house, both direct and indirect. Particularly to

the aforementioned regions, where the majority of human activity is taking place. In

this location, where diverse activities are taking place, connecting the rooms and

spaces is essential, especially on important occasions. This was addressed by

creating a sizable gap between these spaces. In order to connect all of the locations

and prevent human traffic, which could impede or slow down the completion of a

particular operation, space is essential.

More Significantly, Bedrooms make up the majority of the house's

private areas. Three bedrooms (one for a guest room) and a master's

bedroom were planned according to the number of inhabitants of the

structure. The two bedrooms had a single bed, storage, a table, a chair, and

other furnishings and preferably one bunk bed for another bedroom The

bedrooms share an average-sized common toilet between them that contains

a shower area, toilet, lavatory, and storage cabinets for toiletries in order to

minimize the entire area. The following bedrooms which is located at the west

side of the house is connected in a fire wall, only the guest room has

consisting of windows, while the master's bedroom have access to the view

from side-yard path walk and wasn’t placed on a firewall and can install a

window-type air conditioner.

Other Concerns: The building will be used by the family as a holiday home, however

they won't actually live there long. An additional room was created alongside the

structure to address the condition and safety of the house, although it still lacks

access to the home's interior. The owners also benefit from the route in the kitchen

area because it acts as a shortcut leading to the backyard. When carrying supplies

that need to be stacked in the pantry or kitchen, such as groceries, it is quite helpful.

Since the palette and inspiration were typically taken from an oak, specifically, wood

was also employed as an accent in the home, used in various places and even on

the exterior. This relates the structure of some cottages in foreign countries with a

twist and modernized way associating it with asymmetrical designs but still

incorporated with nature, which makes the house suited to its suburbs surrounding.

Concerning that, the client is more into plants; outdoor and indoor plants were

situated in different corners of the house. Moreover, the view of the vegetation in the

southeast part of the house was given attention by having multiple windows that will

show the beauty of nature even when inside the house.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

Designing a residential single-story bungalow house requires careful consideration of

the occupants' needs, lifestyle, and the surrounding environment. Here's a design

rationale for various aspects of the house:

a.) Functional Layout

The layout should place a high priority on movement and ease of use.

Open floor layouts with clearly defined areas for sleeping, eating, and

living areas improve functionality and give the impression of space.

Accessibility is essential for making sure that all locations are simple for

citizens of all ages and abilities to access.

b.) Indoor-Outdoor Connection

To obfuscate the distinction between interior and outdoor

environments, incorporate big windows and sliding doors. Design patios,

decks, and verandas outside so that inhabitants may take in the scenery

and the fresh air.

c.) Natural Light and Ventilation

Place windows in a thoughtful way to maximize daylighting throughout

the day. By placing windows and doors to promote natural circulation and
cross-ventilation, one may increase energy efficiency and create a

comfortable living space.

d.) Material Selection

Select materials that blend in with the surroundings and produce a

unified aesthetic. Choose environmentally friendly and locally sourced

materials to reduce your impact on the environment.

e.) Roof Design

To allow for rainwater flow and to provide visual appeal, think about a

sloped or pitched roof. Roof overhangs can offer shade and shelter from

inclement weather.

f.) Ceiling Heights

Vary ceiling heights to create visual interest and define different zones

within the open floor plan. Higher ceilings can make spaces feel more

expansive, while lower ceilings can provide coziness.

g.) Privacy and Views

Plan the space and the positioning of the windows to promote privacy

and benefit from appealing vistas. Use architectural or landscape features to

establish natural boundaries between properties.

h.) Sustainability:

Incorporate energy-efficient windows, insulation, and lighting to reduce

energy consumption. Integrate solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems,

and other sustainable features if possible.

i.) Interior Design

Pick materials and a color scheme that are coherent and represent the

preferences and style of the occupants. Maintain a clutter-free look and make

sure that the furniture and décor are in keeping with the style of the home.

J.) Universal Design

To make the home welcoming and usable for people of all ages and

abilities, include universal design concepts. A wheelchair-accessible

environment should have broad enough doorways, hallways, and other areas.

K.) Flexibility and Future-Proofing

Create environments that can change to meet evolving needs. Think

about versatile spaces that can adapt to changing needs. Consider future

additions or adjustments, like the addition of a second floor.

L.) Local Climate and Context

Considerations for the design should be the local climate, taking into

account elements like temperature, humidity, and prevailing winds. Reduce

water use and foster a harmonious relationship with the environment by

incorporating local landscaping.

Generally, a residential single-story bungalow house's design philosophy focuses on

producing a useful, cozy, and visually acceptable living space that meets the needs

and tastes of the residents while blending in with the surrounding environment.
