CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

In this summer internship programme I have chosen cross domain internship program as per guidelines from
university. In Tata Motors Pvt. Ltd. I got opportunity to learn and work on Financial Analysis Using
Powerbi field in which I have chosen, “Tata Motors” as my main project.

Power BI offers a customized, intuitive dashboard that fits a business's specific needs. This tool allows you to
create custom reports with ease thanks to its drag-and-drop option. For example, specific dashboards can be
developed for HR, financial analysis, or marketing, each focused on the success of different projects. The
Power BI platform stands out for its ease of use. Its user-friendly design simplifies the process of creating
dashboards, to the point of not requiring writing code. In addition, its built- in intelligence suggests the best
components for reporting, based on user preferences. In terms of cost, Power BI presents itself as a cost-
effective option for creating attractive and functional dashboards for any business need. Even its free desktop
edition allows for complex dashboards and reports. Although for additional features, such as sharing the
boards, an affordable subscription is required.
Automotive industry, all those companies and activities involved in the manufacture of motor vehicles,
including most components, such as engines and bodies, but excluding tires, batteries, and fuel. India became
the fourth largest auto market in 2019 displacing Germany with about 3.99 million units sold in the passenger
and commercial vehicles categories. India is expected to displace Japan as the third largest auto market by
2021. In the current competitive business environment, businesses must be able to reduce their manufacturing
costs by eliminating all non-value adding processes, ensuring compliance to industry standards, ensuring
proper storage of data, and fostering innovations in the industry. Many manufacturers now adhere to the global
environmental norms regarding emission/technological standards and quality certifications. The industry grew
by around 20% annually in the 1990s, and the average annual growth of exports was around 15% during that
period. Over the years, it has been able to modernize its technology and improve quality and has developed
capabilities to manufacture components for new-generation vehicles. Indian companies maintained their
traditional strengths in casting, forging and precision machining, and fabricating (welding, grinding, and
polishing) at technology levels matching the required scale of operations. They achieved significant success
in garnering engineering capabilities and adapted to local requirements through local design. High growth has
taken place in engine, drive transmission, and steering parts. Engine parts, being high value-added in its nature,
have been contributing most to total production. Endowed with the potential of low-cost quality products,
India edges over many other developing countries in component manufacturing.
INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY :
The automobile industry is a major contributor to the global economy. The automobile industry is mainly
comprised of the world's largest passenger car and light truck suppliers. Most members of the industry sell
vehicles in the global market, including both developed and developing countries, through vast dealership
networks. Automobile manufacturers offer a wide range of makes and models, but brand integration is often
limited at the marketing, advertisement, and dealership levels. The bulk of these companies operate production
facilities in multiple geographic regions. (Ferro, 2015).

INDIAN AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY :

India became the fourth largest auto market in 2019 surpassing Germany with approximately 3.99 million
passenger and commercial vehicles sold in 2019. By2021, India is predicted to overtake Japan and become
world's third largest auto market. The Government of India encourages foreign investment in the automobile
sector and has allowed 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) under the automatic route. (2020) The Indian
automobile industry is a major economic engine, accounting for nearly half of the country's manufacturing
GDP and 7.5 percent of its total GDP. The value chain of the sector employs roughly 32 million people. (Ind).

Below, we're going to point out the basic steps to create a dashboard in Power BI:
The first step is to connect to the data sources you want to use for the dashboard. Power BI lets you connect
to a wide variety of data sources, including SQL Server, Excel, and SharePoint. Depending on your needs, you
can connect to one or more data sources. To connect to a data source, go to the "Home" tab and click the "Get
Data" button. Then, you need to choose the data source you want to use. For example, choose Excel as your
dataset and find the spreadsheet to use.

The columns and rows of your data will all be displayed in a dialog box on the screen. Now, you can modify
the data according to your needs or use it directly by pressing the upload button. The next step focuses on data
transformation and modeling, fundamental components in data visualization as they allow you to rename
columns, clarify the relationship between variables, and eliminate duplicates. To modify your data using the
Power Query editor, 29a graphical interface for getting data from sources, and an editor for applying
transformations, select the "Transform Data" option on the Home tab of the Editing Panel. You can now change
a column and set a custom equation for it by choosing "Custom Columns" from the "Add Columns" menu.
To finish creating the custom column, select "OK".To save all your edits, click "Close & Apply" to save your
changes.

Choose the type of visualization you want to create, and drag and drop the fields you want to use into the
appropriate places. It is then possible to customize the visualizations by changing colors, fonts, and other
settings. After creating the visualizations, the next step is to design the dashboard itself. This involves
arranging visualizations on the canvas in a way that tells a story or provides relevant information. Up to this
point, Power BI Desktop has been used to create visualizations.

Now, to generate the dashboards, you must first pin the analysis charts in Power BI service. To do this, the
following steps should be followed:

Once this process is done, a notification appears when the display has been successfully pinned to the
dashboard. From there, you have the option to create a mobile view or modify it on the dashboard. We
recommend that you choose the key display options on the first page of the report. In addition, interactive
features such as filters, segmenters, and other elements can be added30 to make the dashboard more dynamic
and user-friendly. Filters allow you to select a subset of the data to display, while segmenters allow you to
filter multiple visualizations at once. Drill-downs allow you to create hierarchies of data that can be navigated
using interactive buttons. To add interactivity to a dashboard, go to the "Visualizations" panel and choose the
type of interactivity you want to add. Finally, you will be able to configure the update rate for the controlpanel.
This determines how often the data is updated on the dashboard.

3.2. Visualization elements:

Charts and pivot tables. In Power BI, data visualization refers to the process of creating visual representations
of data and information. This can be done using various types of charts, such as column and bar charts, line
charts, and pie charts, as well as other visuals such as maps, scatter charts, and indicators.31 The goal of data
visualization is to help users better understand and make sense of complex data by making it more accessible
and intuitive. Through the use of visuals, data visualization allows users to see patterns and relationships in
the data that might not be immediately obvious when looking at the raw numbers.
