Statement of Purpose

Glad to introduce myself, my name is Vikas Tyagi. In my family, my mother is homemaker,


my spouse (Rakhi Tyagi) is an IT professional and I have two lovely kids. In my academics,
I have done my Senior Secondary from SS Higher Secondary School, Ghaziabad and Higher
Secondary from SSTVL Pune, with overall 70% and I secured 83% in Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics. After my schooling, I took admission in Bachelor of Engineering (Computer
Science) and completed my degree in year 2004 with first class and distinction (68%) from
maharashtra (India).

In addition, to my work in the classroom, I was heading (ACE) Association of Computer


Engineers. I have organized and executed many large-scale quiz competition, farewell and
end-of-year parties and many more events successfully. This experience proved rewarding.
Though, it was challenging, and full of unexpected surprises. I truly believe that the leadership
experience I acquired during university period has proved very useful in my professional career
and will be beneficial in pursuing further studies.

I started my professional career in year 2004 as a Telecom Engineer with Nutek India
Limited. Now in total, I have over 14-years of rich experience in Telecommunication
industry and worked in many countries. I hold various positions in my career such as General
Manager-Technology with Cloudric Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Head-Technology with
Spectranet Limited Nigeria a Singapore based IDP group company and as a Product Manager
with Huawei Technologies Ltd. I have lead various projects in my professional career which
taught me to be a great leader, and good team player and on top of it to provide me an edge to
be in the forefront of learning and implementing the advanced futuristic technologies. Few
notable projects which I have lead in the past were “Nigeria’s and west Africa’s First 4G-
LTE deployment” in year 2013 and “World First LTE to UMTS to GSM fall-back testing
in Commercial Network" in year 2011.

I choose Master of Business Administration, because it will equip me to broaden my


management knowledge to understand international business market, and to explore an
entrepreneur side of my personality. I have an extensive experience at management level of
leading large teams and to deployed massive telecom networks. However, due to lack of formal
business management degree I am not able to secure top executive positions in corporate world.
In addition, I would like to choose my future work profile in business and technology
consulting with top consulting firms across the world such as McKinsey, KPMG, Pwc,
Deloitte, etc.
There are various reasons of choosing Canada for my master’s degree. Firstly, based on QS
world university rankings, many top ranked universities are from Canada which shows the
educational strength of the country. Secondly, I had consulted with my friends and known
people living and studying abroad and came to know that Canada has stable economy,
multicultural society with plethora of reputed educational institutes, and provides ample
opportunities to do research in ICT industry which would suit to my professional perspectives.

Why not India, as there are similar courses available in my country. However, majority of
local education institutes are lacking in practical study approach, industry-oriented course
structure and offer minimal global exposure. Another reason for not choosing India is the less
number of specialization and choices of my interest, whereas Canada offer verity of choices
towards course electives selection and specialization in International business and marketing.
Moreover, it is very important to have international education and exposure to fit in today’s
globalized world. The highest standard of teaching, research and learning made me more
determined to find the suitable course in Canada.

I am convinced that Master of Business Administration program offered at Vancouver


Island University is perfect for my short and long-term goals. This program has an option to
choose from various electives of my interests. The MBA program offers 12 core courses,
1 elective course, 2 specialization courses or an applied business project and a 4-month
internship. At VIU MBA students possess few years of industry experience. This is perfectly
suits with my professional experience and expertise to fit in the class. This program offers a
wide array of electives to choose from, combined with seminars, group and individual
assignments, will improve my business skills and industry-recognized competencies required
for success in today’s international competitive business market.

Vancouver Island University is a public research university was founded in 1969 as


Malaspina College, and later in 2008 renamed as Vancouver Island University. VIU Master of
Business Administration is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and
Programs (ACBSP). I choose, Vancouver Island University for various reasons firstly,
because it has a long history of producing notable alumni over a decade. Secondly, it’s course
structure is short with practical technical approach. Lastly, VIU MBA program has been ranked
and recognised amongst the top universities globally.

In nearer future, I want to hold a very impactful position in ICT industry to do the Business
and technology consulting. My long-term goal is to establish a venture that specializes in
penetrating ICT reach to the remotest corners of the world. If I will be able to do that I will
become a role model for at least a few thousands.

To prove my English proficiency, I have attempted IELTS and got Overall band 7. I have
arranged all the financials and supporting documents under the guidance of IDP team for the
admission process and going forward.
