ALAY LAKAD is a program proposed by the government of Talisay City, Cebu, for the youth.
It is a traditional activity that was practiced every year before the pandemic. Alay Lakad is an
offering of a walk for the young Talisaynons.
Last Sunday, April 23, 2023, Alay Lakad activity in Talisay City resumed with the theme
"PAKIGBISOG ALANG SA KALAMBUAN SA KABATAAN". The assembly area for the
activity is at Gaisano Fiesta Mall Tabunoc to Talisay City Central School from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30
a.m.
Talisay City College (TCC) students are required to join the Alay Lakad to show support as a
way of joining together to create resources that can help young Talisaynons who can’t afford to
get tertiary education due to financial problems.
According to Mayor Samsam Gullas, "I was very impressed that after 3 years, the Alay Lakad is
now finally back, and it was indeed a successful event. It was able to gather around 15,000
participants, more or less". Not just the students in TCC were the participants, but also the public
and private schools in different barangays in Talisay City with their barangay officials, barangay
health workers (BHW), and other sectors of the community. Alay Lakad activities help raise
funds for young Talisaynons.
This is a meaningful event where everyone walks together toward the progress and development
of the youth in Talisay City.
EDITORIAL WRITING 1
Students are all aware by this point that social media is phony. Social media posts are altered to
match the narrative that the poster wants to present; therefore, they rarely tell the complete story.
Social media has taken over our digital lives over the past 15 years, with platforms like Facebook
and Twitter now having the capacity to genuinely affect elections. In addition, there is growing
concern about the impact these platforms have on our mental health.
Social media is no longer just for teenagers; thus, different generations have varied posting
habits. However, Generation Z students are the first generation to have grown up with social
media in their daily lives. As an outcome, considering that we have personally experienced and
participated in this phenomenon for as long as we can remember, we are particularly qualified to
comprehend the vast volume of falsehoods and twisted narratives presented on these platforms.
The demands for posting—and how to post—on each site, however, are always changing as the
digital landscape changes.
Due to its early dominance and subsequent acquisition of its primary rivals, Facebook has
remained the face of social media around the world and is now a dominant force in the industry.
Despite its immense influence on how we live our lives today, which includes how it
manipulates narratives, skews elections, and gathers data, and despite the fact that Facebook
continues to be the most popular social media platform, its appeal among people our age is at an
all-time low.
Facebook has a ton of features, such as the Marketplace, where you can find inexpensive
furniture for your new off-campus apartment; the Events page, where you can see what’s
happening nearby; and the News Feed, where you can read the most recent dubious posts from
your distant relatives. But when it comes to posting on the site, Generation Z students have
relegated it to an uncool second-class status. We only truly post when our parents make us, so
Grandma knows what’s going on.
Contrarily, despite being a Facebook property, Instagram is one of the most popular social
networking sites for people our age. It is one of the most filtered, though. Typically, younger
generations use Instagram to express their aesthetic sense rather than necessarily show off the
realities of their lives. Instagram stories feature lovely brunches, get-togethers, birthday tributes,
and more. Women undoubtedly experience a particular kind of strain on Instagram, despite the
fact that various people experience a variety of pressures depending on where their posts are
directed.
Some student users create perfection in their postings, while others may place more weight on
posts that blend in with the aesthetic of their feed than on absolute perfection. Instagram posts
are selected in one way or another and serve primarily to market your own brand to your
followers. In addition to aesthetic considerations, there is also the worry—especially for women
—that the wrong people will see your post. Despite the fact that what’s on your body shouldn’t
matter to anybody else, it’s nevertheless possible for a picture of you with a top that’s too low or
a skirt that’s too short to be discussed with others, to draw strange remarks, or even to receive
threatening direct messages. Women suffer patriarchal difficulties in addition to the additional
obligation to make their lives appear attractive.
Meanwhile, Twitter continues to decrease its monthly users as early teens often find the platform
uninteresting. Because of the very nature of Twitter, anyone can share their illogical ideas that
they believe the general public should see. Some of these tweets might be amusing and even
educational. However, as unfiltered ideas have spread online and students have been more
outspoken about their beliefs, regardless of how ignorant they are, online conversation has only
gotten more abrasive. With 280 characters, users feel empowered to comment about a wide range
of subjects, including politics, entertainment, and even celebrity rumors, even if they are ignorant
and uneducated about the subject. Just keep this in mind when using Twitter: You don’t always
have to say something. In some cases, it is actually preferable to remain silent. You don’t have to
or even have the capacity to discuss something just because everyone else is.
One of the most popular social media platforms, TikTok, is primarily used by younger
generations. There is an expectation to be "woke" on every single social topic, or at the very least
to have some sort of opinion or say in it, even if the app does not have the same posting
requirements as other forms of social media. TikTok has various niches, yet each specialty has a
particular responsibility to address social issues in the neighborhood. For instance, marginalized
creators discuss issues in the book community and publishing sector on "BookTok," but there are
a number of users who aren’t a part of that community but still feel qualified to weigh in or
defend themselves when they have said something offensive. On several social media platforms,
such as Instagram, users are under pressure to publish or comment on "trending" social issues,
even if they lack the necessary expertise or skills to do so. In addition to the pressure to strike a
balance between posting amusement and social topics, TikTok also carries this pressure.
Every social media platform generates a different set of demands and effects. Although social
media can be beneficial, the students face challenges on each platform. While social media does
have a huge impact on today’s society, it is vital to keep in mind that it is only a glimpse into
people’s lives. It is also easy to become engrossed in the specifics of each platform, which has a
negative impact on our mental health.

The DSWD provides one-time financial aid to students in need. The students at Talisay City
College who are in need received one-time cash assistance on May 19, 2023, held at Talisay City
Complex by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas also joined the said event, and according to him, students
may use the financial aid for educational purposes and not for gambling, "sabong", tong-its, or
jokes about "pusta" for NBA games. The assistance is worth P4,000 for college. Cash aid is
available to all low-income students, not just those whose parents are single.
For instance, single parents, parents with disabilities, those with ill parents, orphans, tricycle
driver’s children, housekeepers’ children, and jeepney driver's children, and in case two of the
siblings are disqualified, one of the grantees will also be disqualified, according to Mayor
Samsam Gullas.
Parents and students are questioned as to how these other students or recipients inquired about or
applied for the cash assistance. In similar circumstances, we must understand the plight and
anguish of the parents and the recipients in the situation, who are especially in hardship. But
overall, the exercise was successful and beneficial. The good news is that the government is
actually assisting its citizens by providing financial aid for schooling with the least requirements.

The Museo de Talisay is the official museum of Talisay City, Cebu. This museum showcases the
culture and heritage of Talisay through its artifacts, colonial-era objects, and collection of
contemporary artworks. Museo de Talisay was founded as a joint partnership between the local
government of Talisay and the Department of Education, Talisay City Division. It is housed on
the second floor of the 1911 Gabaldon Building within the Talisay City Central Elementary
compound. On May 12, 2023, Museo De Talisay participated again in the Gabii sa Kabilin with
the support and help of our beloved TCC (Cultural Affairs Office) and those who participated
and made the event successful and enjoyable. Talisay’s Gabii sa Kabilin 2023 showcased rich
Filipino heritage and cultural pride.

Gabii sa Kabilin 2023 began with a spectacular opening program. This highly anticipated event,
spearheaded by Talisay City College’s Cultural Affairs Office and led by Dr. Richel N. Bacaltos,
took center stage, immersing the audience in a lively celebration of culture and tradition.
The evening began with an enthralling dance performance that demonstrated the tenacity of the
ancient Filipinos through the "Padayun" dance. This performance offered a poignant reminder of
the resilient spirit that runs through the Filipino people’s veins. Following the dance, the
audience was treated to a soul-stirring performance of the immortal anthem "Ang Bayan Ko."
Overwhelming each and every participating site of the sought-after Gabii sa Kabilin, I would say
that forward is our direction towards the advocacy of culture preservation.
BRIGHT. With the predominant number of young people participating in this year’s GSK, a

PANAG-IYA. "Owning Your Story" is the official theme of this year’s Gabii Sa Kabilin, which
marks the 125th anniversary of Philippine independence. We will demonstrate how we were able
to use colonial trappings to suit our interests as a people and how we established our right to tell
our story. Students, teachers, and those who participated were glad to take part in Gabii Sa

Unexpected Songs Swift Has Performed During
The Eras Tour
On each date of the superstar's 2023 tour, Taylor
Swift's Eras Tour set list contains a surprise song (or two)
performed during a mini acoustic set.
Swift disclosed her plans for the acoustic portion of her
long-running live performance on March 17 at the Eras
tour's opening concert in Glendale, Arizona, by carrying a
guitar and walking to the end of the stage's catwalk. She
will perform a surprise composition that will likely not be
performed again on this tour.
"The plan, or objective, would be to perform different
songs every night and never play the same one twice.
Right? So that when you heard one on this tour, you
would know it was the only time I was going to play it in
the acoustic set, unless — caveat — unless I mess it up so
horribly," she said with a small laugh, "that I have to do it
again in another city. Send me your best intentions that I will not do that."
The Eras Tour is the prolific songwriter's first opportunity to perform songs from Lover,
Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights in front of sold-out stadium audiences. Swift performed
between one and eight songs from each of her 10 studio albums. The show's nightly surprise is
certain to keep her admirers on the edge of their seats, anticipating what gem will be revealed
at their concert.
TEN AMAZING LITERARY FACTS
From englishbookgeorgia.com
5. Victor Hugo’s 823 word long sen- tence. In Victor Hugo’s novel,
Les Miserables, you can find a sentence that is 823 words long.
However, there may be other sentences that surpasses this
length. But this one is worth knowing.
6. J.K. Rowling is not actually her name. Our favorite author who
goes by initials, actually doesn’t have a mid- dle name. After a
suggestion from her publisher, she chose her grandmother’s
name, Kathleen.
8. Tolstoy owes War and Peace to his wife’s efforts. The 1400 page
novel was copied around 7 times by Leo Tol- stoy’s wife, Sophia,
by hand – that’s love.
9. The words F. Scott Fitzgerald cre- ated that you use everyday.
Oxford English Dictionary notes the earliest use of the word
‘wicked’ to mean good/cool to be from Fitzgerald’s novel ‘This Side
of Paradise’. He is also thought to have used the word T-shirt for
the first time.
10. The children’s story that China banned. The Governor of Hunan
Province in China banned Lewis Car- roll’s Alice in Wonderland
because he believed that animals should not be given the power
to use the language of humans and to put animals and humans on
the same level would be ‘disastrous’.
VIEW POINT
Spoon feeding, in the context of education, refers to an instructional approach where students are
excessively provided with information, answers, or solutions without actively engaging in
critical thinking, problem-solving, or independent exploration. It is a one-way transmission of
knowledge from the teacher or educational materials to the students, often involving a passive
learning experience.
In a spoon-feeding environment, students are essentially given all the necessary information and
steps to complete a task or solve a problem, leaving little room for them to think critically,
analyze information, or discover knowledge on their own. The teacher or instructor assumes the
role of a provider of information, and students are expected to absorb and reproduce that
information without much questioning or deeper understanding.
Nowadays, as we can observe, the reason why teachers may engage in spoon-feeding students is
often due to time constraints and pressure to meet curriculum requirements and produce
measurable outcomes. In many educational systems, teachers face the challenge of covering a
vast amount of content within a limited timeframe. This can create a perceived need to provide
students with ready-made answers and information to ensure that the necessary content is
delivered.
Furthermore, standardized testing and the emphasis on achieving high scores can contribute to
the tendency to spoonfeed. Teachers may feel compelled to focus on rote memorization and
regurgitation of information to ensure that students can reproduce the required knowledge
accurately during exams.
Teachers' own lack of training or confidence in their subject knowledge or teaching methods may
also play a role. Spoon feeding can provide a sense of control and certainty, as teachers can rely
on predetermined answers and materials, especially if they feel unsure about their ability to guide
students through more independent and critical thinking processes.
However, it's important to recognize that while these reasons may explain why some teachers
engage in spoon feeding, it is generally recognized as a less effective teaching approach in terms
of promoting deep understanding, critical thinking, and independent learning skills among
students. A balanced approach that encourages active learning, critical thinking, and problem-
solving is widely considered to be more beneficial for students' long-term educational growth
and development.
