Appendix Essay

The Classical Approach views employees as economic beings focused solely on economic gains, while the Human Relations Approach sees employees as social beings motivated by social and psychological factors; the Classical Approach emphasizes structure, control and top-down management, whereas the Human Relations Approach promotes participation, empowerment and consideration of individual needs. Both approaches believe they alone provide the optimal model, though in practice a balanced integration of the two is likely most effective.

Do The Right Thing By Spike Lee
The melting pot of America is the mix of different cultures and identities that supposedly
make up the American Society. But to the minorities who are the heart and soul of the
melting pot, they know that the idea of diverse and equal identities in American culture
isn t always true. Two sources that dive deeper into this idea are The Reluctant
Fundamentalist, by Mohsin Hamid, and Do the Right Thing by Spike Lee. In The
Reluctant Fundamentalist, Hamid uses the main character Changez to show the struggles
of being a Pakistani American in the 9/11 era of America. The audience follows
Changez as he struggles with identifying as an American while he regularly was put
through extreme persecution due to the actions of a few people from his... Show more

Changez exclaimed that the patriotic symbols plastered everywhere seemed to
proclaim: We are America not New York, which, in my opinion, means something
quite different the mightiest civilization the world has ever known; you have slighted
us; beware our wrath (Hamid 79). This acknowledgment of patriotism shows that
Changez felt his culture was overwhelmed and belittled by America s response to the
attacks. Changez s feelings of lack of identity in American culture was not just felt by
him, in a qualitative study called Understanding the experiences of discrimination in
Muslim Americans post 9/11 , Dr. Zaman questioned other Middle Eastern Americans
about how their identity changed by living in America after 9/11. One lady responded
by saying I just don t feel that Americans accept me as an American. They look at me,
or people with a similar background, that we re some outsiders intruding their country
(Zaman 82). By using the quote, Dr. Zaman shows how other people of the Middle
Eastern minorities felt detached in American society after 9/11. This patriotic response
made it hard for individuals just like Changez to have a sense of belonging in the
American mainstream culture of post 9/11. Even through all the persecution that faced
Changez after 9/11, he was still able to make a successful use of non violent activism to
fight for a sense of identity in the mainstream culture.
My Personal Statement On My Injury
I was sitting in the quiet wrestling trailer listening to the rustling of pads and the click
clack of cleats on the floor. Of course I was already dressed, my pre game routine
always on time unlike my teammates. Ten minutes early is on time and on time is ten
minutes late. Everything was tucked in perfectly, every string and undone shoelace was
taped down. Our trainer had taped my ankles perfectly, unlike the useless student
trainers who always tried to tape us before Andrew could get to it. My cleats, tied as
tight as possible. The spats on my cleats kept the jarring of the torn ligaments in my
ankle to a minimum. The compact tape made me feel safe, a little painto know I was
alive, just how I liked it. My compression kneesleeve reached into my Nike socks, the
white color faded and stained from the sweat and blood. My knee brace followed,
perfectly tightened at every strap. The amount of tape covering every inch of my
brace almost looked uncomfortable. White wrist tape and white gloves, the underside
of my left wrist bearing a date, 7 28 12 as a reminder of the hard work. I could feel my
hands clamming up underneath my gloves with every tap on the shoulder I received as
my coaches passed by. My heart was racing, but my hands were still. I had forgotten the
sound of the loud slow rhythmic thumps of the drums as we lined up outside the trailer.
Bum Bum Bum, I was timing my steps with the slow beats as I got to the front. I locked
hands with my two best friends and began
A Noise Within By Luigi Pirandello
With the help of directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez Elliott, a play within a
play comes to A Noise Within. In Six Characters in Search of an Author, six characters
appear in front of actors and a director at A Noise Within during a rehearsal with only
one desire: to tell their unfinished story. A Noise Within is known quite well for their
performances of popular adaptations, and when Robert Brustein s adaptation of Luigi
Pirandello s metatheatre absurdist play comes to A Noise Within, it is quite clear what
the directors are trying to say. In their production of Six Characters, directors Geoff and
Julia Elliott convey the theme that theatres are filled with the impressions of all the
characters played there, and will always be a part of that theatre. The success of this
adaptation is attributed to no one person, but the collective effort of the people at A
Noise Within. This production of Six Characters provides purposeful and creative
direction, dedicated actors and actresses, and a stunning use of production values that
display an engaging adaptation of the play.
It is obvious that Geoff and Julia Elliott were very involved in the direction and
created an adaptation in which everything in the play was thought out and had a
purpose. This can be seen by the writing done for the play. Most directors choose to
perform the play with as few changes to the script as possible. It seems, however, that
Geoff and Julia Elliott went out of their way to add to the script in
Classical Approach And Human Relations Approach
When looking at both the Classical Approach and the Human Relations Approach in a
comparative sense, it is easy to clearly point out the vast differences between the two
methodologies given that many of the core principles and beliefs of each organisational
model are polar opposites of eachother. However in saying that, both approaches
consider themselves to be the One best approach , which I believe to be a common flaw
amongst the two.

As an employee of two companies (past and present) , I have to a certain degree

experienced both organisational models. I myself consider the human relations approach
to be superior to that of the classical approach because of my personal inclination
towards intrinsic motivations as well as work flexibility ... Show more content on

Although it is not the official slogan of the company, People are our business , is
something the organisation very much takes to heart but for a different reason to that of
Company A. Company B s business is built on human skill, imagination and innovation
and for that reason they have had to adopt an approach which harnesses and facilitates
that.
Although a clear hierarchy is in place, Company B promotes the illusion of a flat
structure whereby managers and subordinates are considered equals in terms of skills
and ideas they can bring to the table. Communication is open and uninhibited, team work
and informal groups/pairings are encouraged and autonomy in terms of work and task
design is the norm.
Company B ensures that even an employee coming in at the bottom earns above the
market average for their position, has a healthy work life balance and has the potential to
move between roles that interest them.
The result of Company B taking on the Human Relations approach is that they have one
of the highest employee satisfaction ratings, have won several Best places to work
awards, experience low turnover and have maintained a competitive and lucrative
