iii. Urban-Rural Population (If applicable)

iv. Population Density (in relation to the Proposed Facility)

With a total population of 98,195, the population density of M'lang,
Cotabato, is estimated to be 315 people per square kilometer or 815 people per square mile
based on the most recent census data from 2020. This number represents the population
density in the M'lang geographic region, (www.philatlas.com.).
v. Growth Trends of users (Related to the Proposed Facility)
The projected population of users (patients/visitors) is around
b. Industry Profile
i. This consists of pieces of information relative to the particular industries
or aspects of the economy. The following are some examples of industries
that need to be studied relative to a number of thesis topics.

National:
• The primary hospital industry in the Philippines is a significant part of the healthcare
system, which is shared between the public and private sectors. Primary hospitals are
limited in services, providing only outpatient services, day care surgeries, and dental
surgeries (Ken Research, 2017).
• Public hospitals in the Philippines focus on preventive healthcare, while private
hospitals focus on curative services. The country's medical device industry is heavily
reliant on imports, and U.S. manufacturers may exploit export opportunities for low-
volume, high-value equipment. Private hospitals are upgrading facilities to compete
globally (Administration, 2024).
• The healthcare system in the Philippines faces challenges such as geographical
disparities, inadequate staffing, and a high incidence of diseases such as hypertension,
diabetes, kidney disease, respiratory diseases, cancer, heart and lung problems,
obesity, and malnutrition (Fran, 2022). However, the government and private
companies have started telemedicine programs to provide easier access to healthcare,
and the Universal Health Care Law seeks to transition Philippine healthcare workers
from contractual positions to regular (International Citizens Insurance, 2022).
Local:
Under PhilHealth, public hospitals which are mostly located in the provinces offer free
medical treatment to all Filipino residents. Numerous significant medical facilities, including
the Southern Philippines Medical Center, the Davao Medical School Foundation Hospital, and
the Davao Doctors Hospital, are located in Davao City. A completely different caliber of
healthcare is provided by private hospitals, which have state-of-the-art infrastructure,
excellent physicians, and cutting-edge technology. The medical equipment sector in the
Philippines is heavily reliant on imports, and private hospitals are constantly modernizing
their infrastructure to match that of other nations. Government-sponsored and private
providers make up the majority of the healthcare insurance industry, with the Philippine
Health Insurance Corporation being a significant participant. With an emphasis on bolstering
primary healthcare, the Philippine healthcare system aims to give access to universal health
coverage.

Chapter 2: Case Studies

Related Studies that are useful for designing and developing your proposed project are
presented in this chapter. Provide only the Case Study's highlights that are relevant to your
planned project and useful in paragraph style.

Interior Design for a Sustainable Environment: Selecting Sustainable Materials; This research
investigates how consumers and interior designers may support sustainability in interior
environments by using eco-friendly construction materials and sensible design choices. It
highlights how crucial it is to use sustainable materials for design, building, and furnishing while
taking into account factors like affordability, durability, ease of maintenance, comfort, safety, and
flexibility.
Chapter 3

A. Identification / Assessment of needs

a. What is the current situation and what are the best strategies to be Implemented or
applied to the development of your design?
Current Situation Best Strategies
The outside of the hospital is noisy during rush Used acoustic-panels that absorb noise or
hours or during fiestas because it is near to the sound-absorbing panels on walls and ceiling to
municipal plaza, schools and offices. minimize the noise.
Some spaces/areas are too bright and some are Proper lighting layout and window placement
too dark.
Too hot during day and too cold at night Maintaining a comfortable temperature for the
comfort of the users.
Lack in visuals entertainment/ poor in visual Use healing colors and display therapeutic
environment. paintings.
Lack of beds in ward rooms, some patients Appropriate bedrooms for patients
admitted along the hallway.
Excessive smell of medicines Proper air ventilation

b. What are the new trends that can be adopted for your proposed project?

Chapter 4: SYNTHESIS

A. Design Philosophy
According to Perkins and Will, ‘’We're dedicated to creating environments where
people live happier, healthier lives. To working collaboratively with our clients—
engaging, listening, questioning—until, together, we exceed expectations. This is
how we define design excellence. For us, performance and aesthetics go hand in
hand.’’

B. Design Goals and Objectives

An environment that is patient-centered, adaptable, energy-efficient, community-
integrated, accessible, sustainable, waste-reducing, and technologically integrated is what
a hospital aims to achieve. This entails designing areas that put natural features, privacy,
dignity, and environmental sustainability first. Indoor air quality, energy efficiency,
adaptability, accessibility, community integration, sustainable materials, waste
minimization, recycling, and technology integration should all be given top priority by the
hospital. Additionally, it needs to be used by everyone, including those with impairments.
To enhance patient care, the hospital should encourage recycling and waste reduction,
employ sustainable and locally produced products, and incorporate technology. In addition
to facilitating therapy, therapeutic settings should guarantee that the hospital is equipped
to handle crises. Architects and medical experts may design primary hospitals that
emphasize patient health and make a meaningful contribution by establishing defined
objectives.
