Teacher’s Notes
Students Age and Level
This microlearning module is aimed at EFL students with a B1+ level of
English.
Actionable Objective
By the end of this micromodule, students will be able to propose ideas to
promote the work of charitable organizations tackling homelessness by
recognizing the role these organizations have in transforming society.

Before the class:

1. Ask students to read the following infographic to learn about
homelessness. LINK TO THE INFOGRAPHIC
2. Assign students this quiz to check their understanding. LINK TO THE QUIZ
3. Create a Padlet board for students where they can list possible
solutions to the issue based on the information they collected. LINK TO PADLET

In class work:
Task Overview: Students have to look at a photo and answer questions.
Photo Analysis - The Big Sleep Out
Image Description: The photo captures individuals who are not homeless
voluntarily choosing to sleep rough for one night as part of "The Big Sleep
Out," a charity event aimed at raising awareness and funds to combat
homelessness among young people. The event occurs in various cities
worldwide, including London in the UK.
Teacher's Guidance:
Encourage Critical Thinking: Encourage students to think critically and
express their opinions based on their understanding of the photo and the
broader context of philanthropic initiatives.

Group Discussion: Facilitate a group discussion where students can share

their thoughts and engage in respectful debate, fostering a collaborative
learning environment.

Writing Task Option: Offer the option for students to write individual
responses to the prompts, allowing them to articulate their ideas in written
form, promoting language development.

Relevance to Real-World Issues: Emphasize the importance of understanding

the role of individuals and organizations in addressing societal challenges like
homelessness, connecting classroom learning to real-world issues.

Encourage Empathy: Prompt students to consider the impact of such events

on both the participants and those directly affected by homelessness,
fostering empathy and understanding.
After Class:
Students take a look at a presentation and choose a task.
LINK TO THE PRESENTATION

Project Choice: Allow students to select the project that aligns with their
strengths and interests, fostering engagement and personal investment in
the final task.

Research & Integration: Encourage students to incorporate class

discussions, pre-class activities, and information from the presentation
into their chosen project, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the
subject matter.

Content Emphasis for Podcast:

Information Focus: Encourage students to structure the podcast to cover
"Project 7's" activities, organizational strategies, collaboration
opportunities, and avenues for donations.
Creativity: Encourage creative storytelling and engaging audio elements to
convey the organization's work effectively.

Poster Design Guidelines:

Awareness and Reflection: Guide students to design posters that provoke
thoughts about homelessness, incorporating the module's lessons and
personal reflections on the topic.
Interactive Element: Encourage ideas on how the poster can inspire action
or contributions from the school community to help the homeless.
Reflective Component: Prompt students to reflect on their personal
learnings throughout the module and include these reflections in their
chosen project.

Encourage Collaboration: Foster an environment where students can

share ideas, collaborate, and seek guidance during the project
development phase.
