We are current students of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST)
pursuing Master in Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Like you we had also dreamt of becoming an Astronomer at a very young age. But we had
not enough idea how to pursue our career in order to become a successful Astronomer.
Also, we had no proper resources to study Astronomy. We were told that if you want to
become an Astronomer first you have to do a Bachelor’s in Physics. But if someone is not
able to get into Physics it is not the end of the road for Astronomy. In this lecture series
we will not only just guide you to study Astronomy, we will also give a very good overview
of the entire subject. This will boost up your interest in Astronomy and help you to reach
your destination.

We will give 9 lectures, twice per week on Saturdays and Sundays. The platform we will
use is google meet. There we will take you through the topics necessary to understand
the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics. We expect the session to be interactive. The
details of the lectures are given below:

We will start by showing you some beautiful pictures of the night sky and explain
a few things about them. Here we will take you to swimming in the vast cosmos.

Theory is good for nothing without observations. You will know what and how do
we see the beautiful images that you just google.

It is always better to know about our home first.

The first thing we see in the night sky is a star. How it was born and what will be
its fate is really interesting.

Aline life is not a fantasy, there is real science behind it. Let us explore that

The pretty galaxy that you see in google is not our Milky Way, it’s Andromeda.
Well let us know more about them in the lectures.

A fascinating topic always. We will mostly talk about the expansion of the universe
here, starting of course with Big Bang.

Computation is now important in every branch of science. Without it, one can
never dream doing Astronomy.

Here we will give guidance about your career in Astronomy and talk to about the
current research work and opportunities.
