Dictionary, thesaurus and online resources by using cellphones, laptop or computers are the
important tools used in looking for the meanings of difficult words easy and fast.
• Dictionary is a book of words listed alphabetically. The word in the dictionary contains
the spelling, pronunciation (how the word is correctly read), the part of speech (the
word is used as a noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, and others) and the
definition or meaning. The words that are defined in the dictionary are called entry
words. Every page of a dictionary contains the guide words which help you search the
word easy and fast.

• Dictionary also provides several meanings and examples which are used in a sentence.

How are you going to use a dictionary?

Guide Words:

At the topmost page in the content of a dictionary, you will notice two words. They are called
guide words. The first guide word is the first entry word on that page. The second guide word is
the last entry word of the same page. Check the guide words to see whether the word you are
looking for can be found on that page.

For example, you are looking for the word gleam, first look for the guide words that begin with
g. Then look at the second and third letters of the guide words. You might see gla/glo. Since gle
comes between gla and glo, you will know that you can find the word gleam in that page.

meaning of the word readily views on screen. And by clicking the Thesaurus box, the
synonym and antonym of the word also appear right and then. We can also download
