A NARRATIVE REPORT ON CATCH-UP FRIDAYS 2024

I. INTRODUCTION

The Department of Education (DepEd) remains steadfast in its commitment to

delivering quality, relevant, inclusive, and responsive basic education. This commitment is
further strengthened by the present administration’s Eight-Point Socioeconomic Agenda and
the MATATAG Education Agenda to produce competent, job-ready, active, and responsible
citizens, equipped with essential competencies and skills for lifelong learning.
In line with the implementation of the National Reading Program (NRP) as an integral
component of the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP), the Department of
Education implements Catch-up Fridays.
Starting this January 12, 2024, through the Drop Everything and Read (DEAR).

II. OBJECTIVES

The Catch-up Fridays Program aims:

 to improve learners reading abilities, encourage regular reading, enhance

comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.

 to empower learners and equip with essential skills for lifelong learning.

 to strengthen foundational, social, and other relevant skills necessary to realize

the objectives of the basic education curriculum.

III. CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

The grade 2 learners started their Fridays by choral reading of sight words using the
television. We also use flashcards and other reading materials. We also gave them stories
with 5-item questions for their comprehension skills. Spelling Game is also included. They
also answer activities in mathematics focusing on number identification, missing numbers,
and fundamental operations. The learners are very active especially when reading and math
mixed in games.
