BALL SPORTS
1. BASKETBALL (BOYS)
1. The player must bounce or dribble the ball with one hand while moving both feet.
2. The basketball player can only take one turn at dribbling. In other words, once a player has stopped
dribbling, they cannot start another dribble. A player who starts dribbling again is called for a double-
dribbling violation and loses the basketball to the other team.
3. A player can only start another dribble after another player from either team touches or gains control of
the basketball.
4. The ball must stay in bounds. If the offensive team loses the ball out of bounds the other team gets
control of the basketball.
5. The players hand must be on top of the ball while dribbling. If they touch the bottom of the basketball
while dribbling and continue to dribble this is called carrying the ball and the player will lose the ball to
the other team.
6. Once the offensive team crosses half court, they may not go back into the backcourt. This is called a
backcourt violation.
7. If the defensive team knocks the ball into the backcourt, then the offensive team can recover the ball
legally.
1. Although the foul rule is described as a defensive rule, it applies exactly the same to all players on the
court including offensive players.
2. Basketball players cannot kick the ball or hit it with their fist.
3. No player can touch the basketball while it is traveling downward towards the basket or if it is on the rim.

4. Every player on the court is subject to the same rules regardless of the position they play.
5. The positions in basketball are just for team basketball strategy and there are no positions in the rules.
Scoring:
1. A basket scored from near the basket (inside the three-point arc) is worth two points.
2. A basket scored from far (beyond the three-point arc) is worth three points.
3. A basket scored from the free-throw line is worth one point.
Other Guidelines:
1. There should be 10-15 players per team. (should consist of different section).
2. Jump ball shall determine which team gets the first possession.

4. Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.
5. A ball hitting a boundary line is “in”.
6. A ball is “out” if it hit an antennae, the floor completely outside the court, any of the net or cables
outside the antennae, the referee stand or pole, and non-playable area or spot.
7. It is legal to contact the ball with any part of a player’s body.
8. It is illegal to catch, hold, or throw the ball.
9. If two or more players contact the ball at the same time, it is considered one play and either player
involved may make the next contact (provided the next contact isn’t the teams 4th hit).
10. After the serve, front line players may switch positions at the net.
Scoring:
1. Games are played until the team scored 25 points (provided at least two – point margin of victory)
2. A team scores a point when the other team fails to return the ball over the net.
3. A team scores a point when the other team hit the ball out of bounce.
4. A team scores a point when the other team commits an infraction or make a service error.
Other Guidelines:
Main Rules:
1. You should not serve until the opponent is ready, but if he/she attempts to return the serve, he/she is
considered ready and play continues.
2. If in serving, you miss the shuttlecock, you may serve again providing your racquet did not make any
contact during the attempt.
3. Birdies that hit the net as they cross during play are good and should be played.
4. If, in serving, the shuttle touches the net, it is a “let” provided the service is otherwise good and the
birdie is served again.

BOARD GAMES
Basic Rules:
1. A two-player game.
2. One player is assigned white pieces and the other black.
3. Each player has 16 pieces to start the game: one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights,
and eight pawns.
Main Rules:
1. The player who has control of the white pieces starts the game.
2. The objective of each player is to arrive at a position such that the opponent’s king has no legal move
which would avoid the capture of the king on the following move. This situation is called checkmate and
the player who checkmates his opponent wins the game. The player who has been checkmated loses the
game.
3. The game is drawn when the player to move has no legal move and his king is not in check. The game is
said to end in 'stalemate'. This immediately ends the game.
4. The allotted time for each game is 1 hour using an official chess clock. If the game is not yet finished
within an hour, the player with the greatest number of official pieces wins.

Violations:
1. Touch-move – If a player touch one of their own pieces, then he must move that piece, if it is a legal
move. If a player touches a piece of that of the opponent, then capturing that piece is a must. If you let
go of a piece, you have to leave it there. Players who wish to touch a piece only to adjust it on the
chessboard must first announce the intention, usually by saying “adjust”.
2. Distractions –the players need no distractions. All disturbing behaviors like making noises, talking,
moving tables or chairs are forbidden. Exceptions are when you want to indicate rules violation, such as
an illegal move.
3. Illegal moves – If the chess player makes any illegal move, then it is first warning. If the same player
makes the second and third illegal move in the same game then the Arbiter shall announce the game lost
by the offending player.

will be given by their PEAH teachers. The activity will be a demonstration video showing the basic
skills in Volleyball.
Volleyball Skills Assessment Rubric: Students may show a level of mastery, but this is not expected. The
target for each student is to achieve a level of proficiency. Students are evaluated in 3 areas and can achieve a
