UPSC CSE ELIMINATION AND OPTION ANALYSIS.

 This document intends to HELP you understand OPTION SETTINGS in the actual paper.
 There are always exceptions to every generalization. 👶 Hence KNOWLEDGE FIRST, COMMON SENSE
SECOND and KNACKS THIRD.
 This understanding was developed by viewing YT videos, PYQs and related sources. 🙏 🌐

🧠 ELIMINATION KNACKS –

1. DATA/STATS/FACTS = GENERALLY WRONG/INCORRECT as they are easy to manipulate.


(Not incorrect if given with acts) (If more than two options with data BE CAUTIOUS.)

2. STEADILY INCREASE/DECREASE = GENERALLY WRONG/INCORRECT.


Unless it’s for an ABSOLUTE TERM (GDP, POPULATION) and NOT a RATE of something.

3. EXTRA/EXTREME WORDS = GENERALLY WRONG/INCORRECT.


(ALL/EVERY/ONLY/MANY/ANY/ANYWHERE/EVERYWHERE/DRASTICALLY/COMPLETELY/VERY/
ENTIRE/ENTIRELY/NATIVE/HIGHLY/DEFINED BY/LEGALLY BINDING, ETC.)

4. NEGATIVES/NO/NOT/DO NOT/NEVER/NOTHING = GENERALLY WRONG/INCORRECT.

5. COROLLARY/CONTRADICTORY STATEMENTS.
(Within the options If one option is true then the other option must be true/false.)

6. 🗪 TWO STATEMENTS = High chances of INTERCHANGED CONTENT.

7. DESIRABLE/PROGRESSIVE/POSITIVE/ENABLING/GENERAL/SIMPLE/SUBJECTIVE STATEMENTS
= GENERALLY RIGHT/CORRECT. (Be aware of EXTREME WORDS).

8. PROBABLE STATEMENTS WITH CERTAIN WORDS = GENERALLY RIGHT/CORRECT.


(MAY/MAYBE/MAY LEAD TO/CAN/CAN BE/SEEMS/SOME/MIGHT/ONE OF THE/FEW OF THE/MORE
THAN /LESS THAN/OFTEN.)

9. S&T = applications of futuristic technologies are always infinite and it will always be better than the old
tech. Active source of problem is correct over dormant one (pollutants).
HENCE, GENERALLY RIGHT/CORRECT.

10. MINISTRY/BODY/ORGANISATION= GENERALLY WRONG/INCORRECT


Few Instructions.
 If a body is formed with a positive purpose its methods/tools will also be positive.
 If “INTERNATIONAL” is the SUFFIX it’s a NGO and NOT a GOVT BODY.
 If “AUTHORITY” is the SUFFIX then STATUTORY.
 If “COUNCIL” is the SUFFIX then HEADED By MINISTER.
 If “COMMITTEE” is the SUFFIX them HEADED by BUREAUCRAT.

11. GOVT/ACTS/POLICIES/HISTORICAL ORG/FREEDOM FIGHTER = ALWAYS IN POSITIVE


LIGHT UNLESS BRITISH ACT.
POSITIVE =
INNOVATION,DECENTRALISATION,INCLUSION,SOCIAL,JUSTICE,DEMOCRACY,ALLEVIATION,
EMPOWERMENT,MOBILISATION, PARTICIPATION,PARTNER-SHIP,BOTTOM UP ARROACH,
ADMINISTER,IMPROVE,REGULATE,EMPOWER,ENABLE.

NEGATIVE = CONTROL, RESTRICT, DICTATE ETC.

12. PYQs POPULAR OPTIONS = GENERALLY RIGHT/CORRECT.


Example IMF,WTO,NE,WESTERN GHATS,AJANTA,GANDHI,ASHOKA,FOREST,TRIBAL,
ART (21,19,14,17,23), DPSP,PREAMBLE ETC.

13. 🗪 TWO SIMILAR OPTIONS: GENERALLY one of the option is RIGHT/CORRECT.

14. SIMILAR SOUNDING WORDS/HINDI TRANSLATION.

15. STATEMENTS: (EVEN MATCH)


 5 STATEMENTS = 3 OR 1 CORRECT (NOT ECONOMY).
 6 STATEMENTS = 4 CORRECT.
 7 STATEMENTS = 5 CORRECT OR ALL CORRECT.
