COFFEE INNOVATION

We are always looking for ways to innovate; so as our customers’ tastesand habits
change, we are always ready with new and inspiredofferings.
To understand how far we’ve come with espresso,
let’s take a look at our heritage, and the History ofEspresso:

1901
The first espresso was served in Italy by a
man named Luigi Bezzera, who wanted to
speed up the coffee brewing process
(espresso = "express" coffee).
2010
Christmas Blend Espresso Roast
was first offered in stores.

1984
Starbucks first espresso bar opened in
Seattle – the perfect place to continue
innovating with espresso beverages.
1933
The first automatic espresso
machine was created.

1975
Starbucks® Espresso Roast was developed! Through countless
trials, Dave Olsen and team experimented with roasts and
blends until the perfectly bold and caramelly- sweet Signature
Espresso Roast was born.

RO AS T I N G
Through the roasting process, a coffee’s aroma, body, acidity and flavor are
developed. Every coffee that we serve has its own unique roast profile. Our first KEY TASTING NOTES
Blonde Roast coffees were introduced in Winter of 2012 – Veranda Blend® and
Willow Blend® – and they quickly became customer and partner favorites. With
Blonde Espresso, our team of masterroasters COMPLEMENTARY FLAVORS
used their expertise to create a new espresso roast profile that
showcases the coffee’s natural sweetness and smooth, creamy body. GROWING REGIONS
Similar to Signature Espresso, we roast Blonde to the peak of its PROCESSING METHOD
flavor. These profiles also share a common characteristic: sweetness.
