Let’s Think and Act Now!

LOOKING BACK TO YOUR LESSON

Activity 1:
Fill the box with the correct answer.

What are the fundamental

skills in badminton?

2 types of grip in badminton?

2 types of serve in
badminton?
BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Badminton is a VERY FLEXIBLE game. You do not have to follow

every technique by the book, or copy other players’ technique. Some players
have their own styles. You can modify certain techniques if you are familiar
enough with it and execute them perfectly.

However, it’s important to know and practice some advanced techniques

that top players use during badminton games today.

SUPPLEMENTARY DRILLS AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FOR

BADMINTON

1) Drills for Stances

Whistle 1, 2 and 3

Whistle 1 is for attacking stance and 2 whistle is for defensive stance then 3
whistle is for net stance.

1 whistle 2 whistle 3 whistle

2) Footwork drills

Shadow Badminton
Commit fully during this practice
as you would in any competition.
Imagine that you are playing
against a world class player. It
will definitely improve your
movement on court and fitness

www.badminton-information.com
This is to practice the correct movement and technique without actually
hitting a shuttle. Get a partner to help direct you to the areas of the court,
making sure that you cover the backcourt, midcourt, and the frontcourt
with both your forehand and backhand.

3) Drills for gripping

Side to side face

Use the sideline of the court to start you drill make a lateral step from right to left
and face the rocket if it is forehand or backhand grip.

Drills for badminton strokes

Wall Rally Drill

Take an old shuttle and hit it against the wall. Hit the shuttle with your
forehand and backhand, straight or diagonal. It can be used for practicing
almost every stroke. It is a good way to improve footwork, strengthen the
arm and wrist muscles used in badminton.
The wall should be at least 20 feet high to accommodate clears. The practice
will be more effective if you can show the height of the net with a chalk line
or a string, 5 feet above the ground.
As the shuttle rebounds so fast from the wall, your wrist will naturally come
into play. You will learn how to switch grips at an instance as well. You will
be amazed on your improved reflexes the next time you step on court.
Hitting a shuttle against a wall is an effective practice at all levels of plays.
4) Drills for serving
5-10 serving drill
 Using forehand and backhand you should make a 5 high serve and 5 low
serve.
 Make a target area into opposing side of the court so that you will get your
score if you make a forehand and backhand serve using high and low
service.

FORMULATING TRAINING PROGRAM IN BADMINTON

Badminton is an individual sport that requires yourself skill ability to get better
and win games.
Some trainers and coaches used FITT principle to plan an athlete or an individual
program to improve skills and game technique. It requires Frequency, Intensity,
Time and Type.
The FITT Principle (or formula) is a great way of monitoring your exercise
program. The acronym FITT outlines the key components, or training
guidelines, for an effective exercise program, and the initials F, I, T, T, stand
for: Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type.

Stances

Footwork

Grip

Strokes

Serve

CHECKING YOUR UNDERSTANDING

Activity 1
Mirror chase:
• Pupils are divided into pairs facing each other. One pupil is the “leader”
and the other one is the “chaser”. Using chasse steps, the “leader” moves
laterally
and changes directions trying to escape from the “chaser”. The “chaser”
must follow and try to keep up with the “leader”.
