September 2023 Assessment Test Problems
2. No calculators, maths stencils, mobile phones or other calculating aids are allowed. Measuring
instruments such as rulers, protractors, and graph papers are also not permitted. Use only
scribbling paper and writing instruments.
3. The test consists of 25 problems with a time limit of 100 minutes. After the 100 minutes
working time has ended, you will be given 5 minutes to submit your answers via google form.
The link is given above.
5. For numerical answers, no unit of measurement is needed (you don’t need to write cm,
kg, degrees, years, etc. in the form). Only numbers.
6. For non-integer rational answers, please write them as simple fractions (Ex: 1/3, 24/5) or
decimal notation with a full stop (.) as the decimal separator (Ex: 0.25, 4.304). Do not round
off answer(s) unless you are told to do so. In most cases, fractions are preferred.
7. For more complicated forms, follow the following examples and be precise with the brackets.
√
5
• 1+ should be written as 1 + sqrt(5)/2.
2
√
1+ 5
• should be written as (1 + sqrt(5))/2.
2
√
2
• should be written as sqrt(2)/(pi + 1).
π+1
4+π
• To express , both (4 + pi)/2 and 2 + pi/2 are acceptable.

5. The ages of three siblings are consecutive integers. If the square of the age of the youngest
sibling is 4 more than eight times the age of the oldest sibling, find the age of the middle sibling.
6. Freedonia has 50 senators. Each senator is either honest or corrupt. Suppose you know that at
least one of the Freedonian senators is honest and that, given any two Freedonian senators, at
least one is corrupt. Based on these facts, can you determine how many Freedonian senators
are corrupt? (If you can determine the answer, write the number. If there is not enough
information, write ”X” as your answer.)
7. The sum of a four-digit number and its four digits is 2005. What is this four-digit number?
8. A function has the form f (x) = ax2 + bx + c where a, b, and c are some real numbers. If
f (1) = −2, f (2) = 0, and f (3) = 8, determine the value of f (4).
10. In the figure below, AB = AC, AE = AD, and ∠BAD = 30◦ . Find the measure of ∠CDE in
degrees.
12. The following figure shows 12 fixed points a1 , . . . , a3 , b1 , . . . , b4 , c1 , . . . , c4 which are located on
the sides of △ABC. If we select two such points from different sides of the triangle and join
the selected points to form a line segment, how many such line segments can be formed?
1 1 1 1
13. Evaluate √ √ +√ √ +√ √ + ... + √ √ .
1+ 2 2+ 3 3+ 4 99 + 100
14. In how many ways can a committee of 6 to be formed from a group of 12 people consisting of
5 teachers and 7 students if the committee must include at least 3 teachers?
15. Two triangles △ABC and △BCD are both right angled as shown. Lines AB and CD are
parallel. Also AC = 1 and AB = 2. Find the length of BD.
21. The following figure shows 3 circles inscribes in a rectangle. If the radius of circle A is 20 and
the radius of circle B is 5, determine the area of the shaded region.
n+3
22. Find the sum of all integers n such that is also an integer.
n−1
23. Let N = 19 × 28 × 37 × 46 × 55 × 64 × 73 × 82 × 91 . How many perfect squares divide N ?
25. An urn always contains 2 balls. Ball colors are red and blue. At each stage a ball is randomly
chosen and then replaced by a new ball, which with probability 0.8 is the same color, and with
probability 0.2 is the opposite color, as the ball it replaces. If initially both balls are red, find
the probability that the third ball selected is red.
