Instructions and Information

1. Do not start working before you are told to do so.

2. No calculators, maths stencils, mobile phones or other calculating aids are allowed. Measuring
instruments such as rulers, protractors, and graph papers are also not permitted. Use only
scribbling paper and writing instruments.

3. The test consists of 25 problems with a time limit of 100 minutes. After the 100 minutes
working time has ended, you will be given 5 minutes to submit your answers via google form.

4. For non-numerical answers, type the answers in capital letters.

5. For numerical answers, no unit of measurement is needed (you don’t need to write cm,
kg, degrees, years, etc. in the form). Only numbers.

6. For non-integer rational answers, please write them as simple fractions (Ex: 1/3, 24/5) or
decimal notation with a full stop (.) as the decimal separator (Ex: 0.25, 4.304). Do not round
off answer(s) unless you are told to do so. In most cases, fractions are preferred.

7. For more complicated forms, follow the following examples and be precise with the brackets.

• 1+ should be written as 1 + sqrt(5)/2.

seven are to be coloured purple, in how many ways can this be done?
3. In the right triangle ACD as shown in the figure below, the area of the shaded region is 10
cm2 . Moreover, AD = 5 cm, AB = BC, and DE = EC. Find the length of AB in cm.

4. Determine the value of a + b + c + d from the figure below in degrees.

5. The ages of three siblings are consecutive integers. If the square of the age of the youngest
sibling is 4 more than eight times the age of the oldest sibling, find the age of the middle sibling.
6. Freedonia has 50 senators. Each senator is either honest or corrupt. Suppose you know that at
least one of the Freedonian senators is honest and that, given any two Freedonian senators, at
least one is corrupt. Based on these facts, can you determine how many Freedonian senators
are corrupt? (If you can determine the answer, write the number. If there is not enough
information, write ”X” as your answer.)
7. The sum of a four-digit number and its four digits is 2005. What is this four-digit number?
8. A function has the form f (x) = ax2 + bx + c where a, b, and c are some real numbers. If
f (1) = −2, f (2) = 0, and f (3) = 8, determine the value of f (4).

9. A number with two identical digits is multiplied by 99. What is the four-digit product if its
third digit is 3?

10. In the figure below, AB = AC, AE = AD, and ∠BAD = 30◦ . Find the measure of ∠CDE in

the selected points to form a line segment, how many such line segments can be formed?

19. In the diagram below, the regular octagon ABCDEF GH and the regular hexagon IJKLM N
are centered around the same point O such that AB and IJ are parallel. If ∠CBJ = 56◦ , find
the measure of ∠BJK in degrees.

20. Six scout members volunteered to saw large logs into 12 -yard logs to heat the school. The three
leaders of pairs were Volodya, Petya, and Vasya.
Volodya and Misha would saw up 2-yard logs; Petya and Kostya, 1 21 -yard logs; and Vasya and
Fedya, 1-yard logs. (These are all first names.)
The next day, the school bulletin praised the good work of teams led by Lavrov, Galkin, and
Medvedev. Lavrov and Kotov sawed logs into 26 small logs, Galkin and Pastukhov, 27, and
Medvedev and Yevdokimov, 28. (These are all last names.)

the probability that the third ball selected is red.
