gibberish. Do you know that Yes
game?

Gibberish means unintelligible or

meaningless speech or writing
which also means nonsense. So
the guess the gibberish game
means that you will read the
groups of unrelated words here in
my powerpoint and solve them
into real phrases.

Pay call bowl Pickeball maam

Noun vail lay zown Non-volley zone
Duh key chain The kitchen
Bass layn Base line
Anne dear hunt Underhand
Daya gone alley Diagonally
Bio lay sean Violation

Correct. Good job everyone! You

answer it all correctly.

C. Review of the previous lesson

Last time, we have discussed the

history of pickleball right? Let’s
have a quick review about our
previous topic.

When was pickleball invented? Pickleball was invented in 1965.

Who invented the game Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney
pickleball? McCallum.

It is first played in Bainbridge Island,

Where was the pickleball first Washington.
played?

USAPA maam, USA Pickleball

What’s the name of Pickleball Association.
Association?

Good job!

D. Lesson Proper

The guess the gibberish game

that we played a while ago is
related to our topic for today, the
rules pickleball.

Basic Rules Overview

Please read the slide Pickleball is played either as doubles two

players per team or singles;
Thank you, so pickleball can be
played as doubles 2 players will
play against another 2 players, it
can also be played singles where
one player versus one player.
The same size playing area and
rules are used for both singles
and doubles

The Serve

Please read. The serve must be made underhand.

Paddle contact with the ball must be
Alright, so when we are serving below the server’s waist
pickleball, it must be made
underhand. Let’s watch this video,
for better understanding.

After watching, what can you say

about how the player do the He do it underhand maam and below his
serve? waist.
That is correct he contact with the
ball below the his waist. The
serve is initiated with at least one
foot behind the baseline; neither
foot may contact the baseline or
court until after the ball is struck.
The serve is made diagonally
crosscourt and must land within
the confines of the opposite
diagonal court.

Service Sequence
The first serve of each side-out is made
Please read. from the right-hand court.
Okay, so when its your first time
to serve you will start from the Yes maam
right service area. Got it?
So If a point is scored, the server
switches sides and the server
initiates the next serve from the
left-hand court.
As subsequent points are scored,
the server continues switching
back and forth until a fault is
committed

Scoring
Points are scored only by the serving
Who wants to read the next slide? team.
What do you mean by that?
Anyone, do you have any idea?

It means that the receiving team

won’t get any point when the
serving team committed any fault,
what they can only get from it is
the chance to serve the ball. Is it Yes maam, we get it.
clear?

Then each match is best two out

of three games, games are played
to 11 points, win by 2. And in
game three, being played to 5
points, win by 2.
When the serving team’s score is
even the player who was the first
server in the game for that team
will be in the right-side court 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and so on maam,
So what are the even numbers?

Correct and when serving or

receiving; when odd that player
will be in the left-side court when
serving or receiving. It’s 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and so on maam.
What are the odd numbers?
Correct so when your score is Right side of the court maam
even you’ll serve in what side?
The serve will be made on the left side
And when your score is odd?

Great!

Double-Bounce Rule

When the ball is served, the

receiving team must let it bounce
before returning, and then the
serving team must let it bounce
before returning, thus two
bounces.
Let’s take a look at the video. (students will watch the video and give
their insights)
After the ball has bounced once in
each team’s court, both teams
may either volley the ball (hit the
ball before it bounces) or play it
off a bounce (ground stroke).

Non-Volley Zone

The non-volley zone is the court

area within 7 feet on both sides of
the net. The Kitchen maam
The non-volley zone is commonly
referred to as, what?

Good and volleying is prohibited

within the non-volley zone.
It is a fault if, when volleying a
ball, the player steps on the non-
volley zone, including the line
and/or when the player’s
momentum causes them or
anything they are wearing or
carrying to touch the non-volley
zone including the associated
lines.
Players cannot volley the ball
while standing within the non-
volley zone or on the non-volley
line.
A player may legally be in the
non-volley zone any time other
than when volleying a ball. Yes maam
Understood?

Line Calls

A ball contacting any line, except

the non-volley zone line on a
serve, is considered “in.”
A serve contacting the non-volley
zone line is short and a fault.

Faults

A fault is any action that stops

play because of a rule violation.
A fault by the receiving team
results in a point for the serving
team.
A fault by the serving team results
in the server’s loss of serve or
side out. A serve does not land
within the confines of the
receiving court. The ball is hit into
the net on the serve or any return.
The ball is volleyed before a
bounce has occurred on each

side, again does it really need the Yes maam, double bounce rule must be
ball to bounce as you serve it?
followed.

Yes, you got it. You should let the

ball bounce on the ground as your
opponent serve it before you hit it
or volley the ball.
And also a fault if the ball is hit out
of bounds
A serve does not land within the
confines of the receiving court
The ball is hit into the net on the
serve or any return
The ball is volleyed before a
bounce has occurred on each
side. The ball is hit out of bounds

Determining Serving Team

Players use a coin toss to

determine who will serve first. The
winner of the coin toss will have
the option to choose side or to
serve or receive.

Is it clear? Yes maam, clear.

E. Generalization

Did you understand our topic? Yes maam.

So again what is pickleball? Pickleball is a racket/paddle sport that

was created by combining elements of
several racket sports like tennis,
badminton and ping-pong.
Can you give me at least 1
pickleball rule that you have
learned
The serve must be made underhand.
That’s good. Another? Players cannot volley in the kitchen area.

Great job everyone!

IV. Application

You need to arrange the jumbled

letters that you will see here and
then after you guess it, you will tell
us what rule can you relate with
that word.
Understood? Yes maam.

*After the game*

Okay, give yourselves a victory
clap and Congratulations everyone
as I’ve noticed that you’ve already
know the rules in playing
pickleball.

your name, section and the date
today.
