SIngapore and Malawi

The document compares the economic development of Singapore and Malawi after British colonization. Singapore focused on good governance, education, technology and opening up to trade/investment. As a result, Singapore achieved phenomenal economic growth and became a model for developing countries. In contrast, after independence Malawi faced problems including a budget deficit, lack of trained African leaders, high transportation costs as a landlocked country, and unequal development across the country. Due to these challenges and lack of unity, Malawi remained poor while Singapore prospered.

Why Singapore is better than Malawi?

After the British colonisation
Sunday- March 24- 2024

Home Work-Geography
How does Singapore re-build themselves after the British
colonisation? And why Malawi couldn’t?

In the 1965 (The independence), Singapore leadership focused on good

governance and economic development. They were focusing that they want to be
a great in technology, education, economic, productivity and innovation to move
up the value chain. They were also focused on the students that they gave them
an international school so when they grow up, they give something for their
country and improve it. The leadership they searched and work hard for this

country (Not like ours 😒 selfish). Never mind, and in the final, they improved
their country by leveraging its location, maintaining a clean government,
investing in infrastructure and education, opening up to trade and foreign
investment, and restructuring its economy, by the way Singapore was able to
achieve phenomenal economic growth over the past 50 years. We know from this
that a poor country can be the richest country, but everyone has to work, think,
search, be as a team a one hand. The rise of Singapore demonstrates how
effective and corruption-free governance combined with a market-oriented
approach can yield remarkable economic success. They show you that this
country become from a small island nation to punches above its weight and
serves as a role model for other developing countries seeking rapid
advancement. Ok this was Singapore what about Malawi? Malawi the same
story happens for it but the result was difference, why?

Here there is an Attorney
General and secretary to the
president and cabinet of Malawi
his name was Mr. Bryan
Roberts, he talked about what
happens to Malawi after the
independence. He said that the
British has colonial for 70 years
then on 6 July, 1964 they
become independence. He said
that there were 4 problems that
takes this country to a poor
country.

1.After a year from the

independence the economic was
in a problem that there had
been a budgetary deficit of 7
million£ of a recurrent budget
of 16 million£.

2.There was no commissioned

African officer in the Malawi
army, nor any other than the
Bandmaster holding gazettes,
there were no an economy, training people and providing social services, they
needed a engineers, economists and planners rather than for policemen.

3.Malawi was a land locked country whose nearest access to the seaways of the
world lay through still colonial countries, that was ruled by the white
governments. The poor countries were trying to sell overseas in the world
market with a high cost od transport to the sea was heavy extra strain.

4.There was an unequal development of the country. In Malawi, educational

establishments, medical and health facilities, the foundation of state farming
and others.
I will conclude all of this with two sentences, as what I said if the country wants
to be developed, they have to work as a team and that what Singapore did and
Malawi didn’t so the result was difference.
