I – INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction to Data Science

It is crucial to comprehend the DATA that is being discussed in data science in order
to fully grasp data science. Everything that has been documented about anything in the world
is considered data. To put it simply, data is everything that exists in the world that has been
recorded. It can take the form of written information, photos, audio, videos, or any other
multimedia format. This data can be in organized, unstructured, or semi structured formats. It
has been anticipated that by 2021, the globe has generated a total of 79 zettabytes of data,
which is expected to double by 2025.

Data science is an interdisciplinary field with a true foundation in statistics,

mathematics, computer science, and business. As such, it can be challenging to understand
what data science is exactly and what makes data scientists one of the most exciting
professions today. Data science is the process that combines statistics, scientific methods, and
algorithms to derive only meaningful and important insights from a monstrous pool of data.

With that much data, what should be done? How can we use it to everyone's
advantage? What are the practical uses of the information? Data science provides answers to
these queries.

Data science is a rapidly expanding field that is essentially revolutionizing a number of

sectors. Because of this, it gets a little challenging to summarize it in a single formal term. It
is an extremely vast field that keeps growing as big data expands at an exponential rate over
time. But generally speaking, Data Science is the process of removing and screening relevant
information from large, unstructured data sets in order to provide insights that may be put to
use. Perhaps you're still wondering how any of these matters or why data science is getting so
much attention. This is because you are ignorant of the critical importance of data science in
the modern day and only understand its definition rather than its applications in a wide range
of industries.
1

1.2 Background Information on Data Science

The origins of the phrase "data science" can be traced back to Peter Naur's 1974
proposal to rename computer science. The first conference to explicitly highlight data science
as a theme was the International Federation of Classification Societies in 1996. Still, the
definition was subject to change. C. F. Jeff Wu proposed the renaming of statistics to data
science in 1997, following his 1985 talk at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. He
reasoned that a new moniker would aid statistics in dispelling false misconceptions, such the
idea that it is only used to describe data or is synonymous with accounting. Hayashi Chikio
made the case in 1998 for data science as a brand-new, multidisciplinary idea with three
components: data design, data collecting, and data analysis. The 1990s saw the rise in
popularity of the terms "knowledge discovery" and "data mining" to describe the process of
identifying patterns in datasets that were getting bigger.

Technologists DJ Patil and Thomas H. Davenport coined the phrase "Data Scientist:
The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century" in 2012, and major city newspapers including the New
York Times and the Boston Globe adopted it as their own. The statement "the job is more in
demand than ever with employers" was reiterated by them ten years later.

William S. Cleveland is frequently credited with creating the contemporary idea of

data science as a separate field of study. He argued in a 2001 study for the extension of
statistics beyond theory into technological domains, which he felt required a new name due to
the profound impact on the subject. In the next years, the term "data science" gained
popularity after the Committee on Data for Science and Technology established the Data
Science Journal in 2002. Columbia University first published The Journal of Data Science in
2003. The Section on Statistical Learning and Data Mining of the American Statistical
Association was renamed to the Section on Statistical Learning and Data Science in 2014 to
reflect the growing prominence of data science. DJ Patil and Jeff Hammerbacher are credited
with coining the term "data scientist" in 2008. Although the National Science Board used it in
their study "Long-Lived Digital Data Collections: Enabling Research and Education in the
21st Century" from 2005, the term was used to apply generally to any important function in
administering a digital data collection.

II – Literature Review

"Data is the new oil," as the cliché goes. It demonstrates the immense value of data in
the current digital era. However, unlike oil, data is ubiquitous and is produced unknowingly by
every person. Every click and like on anything from our smart watches to our Google searches
creates data. It would be unfortunate if we were unable to make useful use of the abundance of
data that is now available. Data science has grown in popularity for this reason. Data scientists
possess the abilities and expertise necessary to convert vast quantities of unprocessed data into
insightful and helpful information, making them comparable to contemporary magicians.

The capacity of data science to transform enormous numbers into insightful

knowledge is one of the primary reasons for its popularity in the modern world. Data science
offers the resources and know-how needed to produce insights as our digital activities
generate more data. It has the power to change entire sectors. Businesses may create new
goods, comprehend the market, and make wiser decisions with the aid of data science. It also
makes it possible to automate repetitive jobs, freeing up staff members to concentrate on
critical-thinking-intensive projects.

Numerous businesses have already seen data science's power. Netflix is one such instance.
Netflix is a streaming service that provides a large library of films and television series to its
customers. Netflix has greatly increased customer engagement and retention by utilizing data
science to enhance its recommendation engine. Data science will become even more valuable
in the future due to the growing amount of data being collected and the development of artificial
intelligence.

usage. Data transformation, data cleansing, data processing, data staging, and data
architecture are all involved in this.
• Data Modeling: In this stage, the data is characterized, enhanced, and categorized.
Data modeling comes next after data summarization. This phase is the most crucial.
Here, several E approaches are repeatedly applied to find the model that best meets the
needs of the business.
• Visualization & Communication: Here, the client is informed of the business findings.
This is where decision-making and business intelligence take place.

• Model Deployment: This entails putting the chosen model through its pace in a pre-
production setting prior to its introduction into the live environment.
• Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA): Real-time exploratory and confirmatory analysis
is conducted following the data model's successful deployment. In addition, text mining,
regression, predictive analysis, and qualitative analysis are used to track and manage
the project's performance.
9
III Methodology

3.1 DATA COLLECTION

The methods used to collect the data are:

1. Survey design: The survey instrument was specifically designed to focus on Data Science
among people of various ages, and the survey hypotheses were most likely created before the
research began. To collect both qualitative and quantitative data, the survey would make the
most of a variety of question types.

2. Distribution: After the survey is created, researchers will use a variety of methods to get
it in front of the target audience—in this case, a study population of young people. Some of the
methods of communication could have included sending out invitation emails, posting links on
social media, and hanging posters on walls in offices or colleges.

3.Response series: Upon clicking the survey button, those who were invited to participate
would have been prompted to respond to questions on the survey form. Participants may be
asked to choose matching options from the provided lists and provide a qualitative response to
open-ended questions, depending on how the survey is designed.

4. Data analysis: The rapid fact-finding procedure was designed to allow researchers to
complete data collection by the survey's conclusion. To acquire statistical analysis, the raw data
could be run through a spreadsheet application or statistics software program. Nonetheless, the
questionnaire would have included a qualitative section where the answers were examined for
insights and matters, and a quantitative one where descriptive data was utilized to identify
features and styles.
5. Interpretation and Reporting: The researchers might quickly arrive at findings and
even a conclusion regarding the function of data science in the contemporary day by examining
the records.

10

3.2 Data Collection Tools and Technologies Used

The tool for completing the survey's mandatory questionnaire is a Google form. The
respondents were provided with an online link to access the survey form. An online survey
was created using Google Forms. The important questions that will determine the response
for the report's objective were included in the questionnaire. The first question asks about
age, which will provide us with important details about the goal, namely, what this generation
believes about data science. The individual's gender is the subject of the next query. This will
make it easier to understand how people of different genders feel about data science. Finding
out what the person believes about data science in the present environment is the main goal of
this report.

V- Conclusion & Recommendations

5.1 Conclusion

These recent advancements in data science will undoubtedly alter the course of
history and enable people to forecast their data usage. The outdated statistical techniques.
Although analysis won't be entirely defeated, these new methods will nonetheless be more
effective than the ones used previously. Given the rate of advancement, precise and effective
methods will be available in the coming years. One of the most inventive fields in the modern
world is data science. It offers the most recommendations for addressing the problems
brought on by rising demand and a sustainable future. As data science becomes more and
more important, so does the need for data scientists. We are the data scientists of the future.
Thus, a data scientist needs to be able to provide outstanding solutions that deal with issues in
many sectors of the economy.

From the survey we can conclude that people do think Data Science is important in the
modern world and they also believe that it plays an important role in the future. We can also
state from the above pie charts that people do know that Data Science has changed the world
but most of the people still exactly don't know what exactly data science is. People believe
Data Science is very important but still we can see from the pie charts that most of them don't
collect data for any of their projects, assignments, etc.

5.2 Recommendations and Suggestions

I suggest that there should be some regulated policies created on the use of data and
selling and buying data. Many people still don't know how valuable data is and how much
power it holds. So, to prevent misuse of the data there should be some policies created and
companies should be strictly watched, that hold big data so that they don't sell or manipulate
the data just to earn money.

On the other hand, I recommend that people should gain more knowledge about data
science and know how it works as I think it's going to be future of the coming generation.
