Right to work

General overview
• The right to work is the concept that people have a human
right to work, or engage in productive employment, and
should not be prevented from doing so. The right to work is
enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
and recognized in international human rights law

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Article 23

1. Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and
favorable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment.

2. Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal
work.

3. Everyone who works has the right to just and favorable remuneration
ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity,
and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection.

4. Everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection
of his interests.

The new Egyptian Labor law (2022)
• Wage payment system
o The employer does not have the right to change the
employee wage payment frequency without a prior
written agreement from the employee.

• Loan payback percentage


o The employer can not cut more than 10% of the
employee wage to payback loan.

• Prioritizing employee dues


o In case of debts on the employer, the employee is
prioritized in payment.
