Conclusion
WHAT IS IOT?
The Internet of Things (IoT) describes the
network of physical objects—“things”—that
are embedded with sensors, software, and
other technologies for the purpose of
connecting and exchanging data with other
devices and systems over the internet.
These devices — also known as “smart
objects” — can range from simple “smart
home” devices like smart thermostats, to
wearables like smartwatches and RFID-
enabled clothing, to complex industrial
machinery and transportation systems.
EMBEDDED DEVICES
An embedded system describes a microprocessor-
controlled computer hardware system that runs
dedicated software to perform a specific task. An
embedded device is the hardware on which this
software is running. Embedded devices are also
referred to as dedicated or single-purpose
devices.
They are independent systems or devices, or a part
of a larger system or device responsible for task
execution. The integrated circuit in the core
performs tasks involving the calculation of real-
time functions.
ELECTRONICS
Embedded systems are computers. Therefore,
like most other computers, they contain a
combination of hardware and software such as
microprocessors, microcontrollers, volatile
and non-volatile memory, graphics processing
units (GPUs), input/output communication
interfaces and ports, power supplies, and
system and application code.
Electronics of an embedded system includes a
processor, memory, application specific
sensor(s) and other input/output units.
EMBEDDED COMPUTING
Embedded computing is the integration of computational
capabilities with physical processes whose behaviors are defined
by both digital and physical parts of a system. It is enabled by
the combination of compute, communication, and physical dynamics.
DEVELOPMENT PLATFORMS
Embedded development platforms or boards are specialized computer hardware
designed for a specific task or tasks within a larger system. In the realm of IoT
(Internet of Things), these boards function as the brains of all the IoT devices,
from relatively simple smart doorbells to advanced manufacturing robots.

ELECTRIC IMP
Electric Imp provides an innovative and
powerful IoT connectivity platform that
makes it simple to connect nearly any
device to the Cloud. Featuring fully
integrated hardware, OS, APIs, and cloud
servers, the platform decreases costs and
time-to-market.
The managed services platform provides the
reliability and security that businesses
and developers require to deploy, manage
and quickly scale their connected products
and services to millions of users or
endpoints.
MOBILE PHONES AND TABLETS
Smartphones and tablets are equipped with sensors varying
from location, device orientation to light conditions.
Altogether, these sensors produce a huge amount of data.
Smart phones and tablets have sensors, accelerometers,
gyroscopes and so on, are embedded devices with displays
and keypad, can be connected to the internet also, has an
IP address. Thus they are the greatest examples of an IoT
device.
With the rise of the wearables, smartphones increasingly
have an additional role. This new role can be considered
as the "brain" of your Body Area Network (BAN), given the
storage and communication capabilities of the smart
phone.
PLUG COMPUTING
Plug computing refers to computing by a device that is
in the form factor of a plug or wall adapter. A plug
computer is a tiny computer designed to operate as a

sleek Web application server, providing file-sharing
and other network-based services. Plug computers
TECHNOLOGY
areintended for small business and home users.

A plug computer is integrated with typical computing

resources such as a SoC (system on chip) processor,
memory, communication ports, wireless connectivity and
a Linux operating system.
PROTOTYPING AND
ITS IMPORTANCE
Prototype refers to a first or preliminary version of a
device or vehicle from which other forms are developed.
In today's competitive environment, prototyping is necessary
to understand customers, create a new market or attend to
what has been ignored by industry leaders.
A prototype makes an idea a reality and makes investors or
partners confident by showing them that the idea could
actually work. Creating a prototype can be a tough hurdle to
jump because it converts an idea to something that has value
and requires some dedication.
CONCLUSION

In conclusion, embedded system prototyping plays a

crucial role in the development cycle, enabling engineers
to validate designs, test functionality, and identify
potential issues early on.
Simulation provides flexibility and cost-effectiveness
for software validation, while emulation offers hardware-
software co-verification and real-time performance
analysis.
