1. Why might health and safety not be seen as a priority by the management of an
organisation?

There are multiple reasons due to which management usually ignore H&S , some are given
below
1) Financial cost

2) waste of resources

3) waste of time

2. Define:

a) Health Lack of illness and disease and a individual should feel fit to perform
task both physically and mentally .

b) Safety Safety is when we are able to control the hazards and reduce the risk up
to minimal acceptable level where an individual can perform his tasks
with negligible chance of accidents .

Basic facilities of good dining area and healthy food .

3. Explain the three reasons why an organisation should manage health and safety.

Due to moral , financial and legal reasons which has implemented by ILO which
protects civil law across the globe .

4. Give three insured costs and three uninsured costs that might arise from a workplace
accident.
Insured Costs Uninsured Costs

Damaged cost of property/Machinery . Bad company reputation .

Medical insurance to worker. Lack of Client trust .

Sick leave. Production loss due to investigation .

5. List the criteria that might be used to assess the suitability of a contractor to
undertake work on behalf of a client.

Check the contractor previous project history .

Check their programs to maintain safety culture in their organization .

Check the business relation and their priorities , upon where they consider safety and
how .

Element 2: How Health and Safety Management Systems Work and
What They Look Like

1. What are the elements of the management system outlined in ILO-OSH-2001?

2. What are the elements of the safety management system outlined in ‘ISO 45001:
Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems’?

The elements highlighted in ISO 45001 are: Plan of Organization, involvement of leadership
and workers, implementation, evaluation and improvement.

3. Why might the health and safety policy of two organisations, both undertaking similar
work, be different?

Both Managements system are working on same principle called PDCA. Plan, DO, Check and
Act. However each SMS have different Stages in each phase of PDCA. The only difference is
ISO 45001 provides standard in which organization can be externally audit .

4. What are the three key elements of a health and safety policy? What does each section
contain?

Statement of Intent

Organogram

Arrangements

Policy statement is signed by top tier management such as CEO or Managing director.

6. What health and safety responsibilities do all workers have?

To ensure to comply with company safety procedure.

To ensure their working environment is safe for health.

Ask to employer for Specific training.

Should know the hazards and risk in their working area.

Report when they believe severity of hazard is high and feel not comfortable to execute the
job.

7. What does a safety organisation chart show?

It shows the members of organization are ranked from top to bottom and their
responsibilities accordingly.
