PowerPoint is a presentation software that allows the creation and delivery of
slideshows. PowerPoint is software for creating engaging and informative presentations.
A presentation is a collection of slides that contain text, images, audio, video and other
elements that convey messages to an audience. A slide is a single page of a presentation.
A slide can have a title, a layout, a background and content placeholder. The first slide is
called the title slide. The first slide contains information such as presenter's name, topic,
presenter’s qualification, date, organization etc. The following slides are called the
content slides. A slide consists of two placeholder: the title and subtitle.
Slide content refers to the information and elements that is placed on slides such as text,
graphics, audio and videos.

rtf etc.
GRAPHICS bmp, jpg, jpeg, png, gif, psd,tif etc.

Application/Uses
PowerPoint has many applications and uses, such as:
Creating professional presentations for meetings, conferences, webinars etc.
Designing interactive and multimedia e-learning courses and tutorials
Making fun and creative slideshows for personal events such as birthdays,
weddings, vacations etc.
Developing animated and interactive charts, diagrams, maps etc.
Producing videos, podcasts and screencasts with narrations.
Education purposes - teaching and learning aid
Sales and Marketing - show casing products or services
Training session: providing step by step instructions
Features
PowerPoint has many features such as:
Animations - these are effects that control how elements on the slide appear,
move or disappear. Animations can be applied on to text, images, shapes, charts
etc.
Transitions - these are effects between slides for smooth progression.
Themes - these are predefined sets of colours, effects, and backgrounds that can
be applied to a presentation to give it a consistent and professional look.
Templates - these are ready made presentations that have a specific purpose,
content and design. Templates can be used to save time and effort when creating
a presentation.
Charts - these are graphical representation of data.
Types of views
PowerPoint has several types of views. These include:
Normal View - this is the default view in PowerPoint. It is used to add, edit the
content of the slides.
Outline view - it is a view that shows the text content of the presentation in a
hierarchical structure. It does not show graphical elements
Slide sorter view - it shows the thumbnails of all the slides in a presentation. It is
used to rearrange, delete, duplicate or hide slides.
Slide master view - it shows the master slide and the layout of the presentation.
It is used to modify design and formatting of slides such as theme, background,
placeholders, headers and footers etc.
Slide show view - It shows full screen presentation of the slides. It is a view used
to deliver a presentation to the audience presents the slides in full screen mode.
Notes page view- It shows the slide and the notes that have been added to each
slide. It is used to print slide notes or rehearse a presentation with the speaker
notes.
Reading view - it shows the presentation of the slides in a window that fills the
screen.
The keyboard shortcut used to play a presentation is F5. To play a presentation using the
menu, click on slideshow tab, then click on from beginning to start the presentation from
the first slide, or choose from current slide to start a presentation from the slide you are
currently on. To end the presentation, press ESC on the keyboard.
