Education

For Now and For Eternity

For members of the Church, education is not merely
a good idea—it’s a commandment. We are to learn
‘of things both in heaven and in the earth, and under
the earth; things which have been, things which are,
things which must shortly come to pass; things which
are at home, things which are abroad.’

ELDER DIETER F. UCHTDORF

“Two Principles for Any Economy,” Ensign, Nov. 2009
The Lord and His Church have always encouraged
education to increase our ability to serve Him and our
Heavenly Father’s children…. Remember, you are
interested in education, not just for mortal life but for
eternal life. When you see that reality clearly, you
will put spiritual learning first and yet not slight the
secular learning. In fact, you will work harder at your
secular learning than you would without that spiritual
vision.
PRESIDENT HENRY B. EYRING
CES Fireside, Moscow, Idaho, May 2001
When you leave this frail existence, your material
possessions will remain here, but the Lord has
declared that the knowledge you acquire here will
rise with you in the resurrection. In light of this
celestial perspective, if you impulsively drop out or
otherwise cut short your education, you would not
only disregard a divine decree but also abbreviate
your own eternal potential.
PRESIDENT RUSSELL M. NELSON
“Education: A Religious Responsibility,” BYU-Idaho Devotional, 26 Jan 2010

Prosperity and education seem to be connected to a
higher likelihood of having traditional families and
values…. When people make family and religious
commitments to gospel principles, they begin to do
better spiritually and often temporally as well.

ELDER M. RUSSELL BALLARD

“That the Lost May be Found,” Ensign, May 2012
Sacrifice a car; sacrifice anything that is needed to be
sacrificed to qualify yourselves to do the work of the
world. That world will in large measure pay you what
it thinks you are worth, and your worth will increase
as you gain education and proficiency in your chosen
field.

PRESIDENT GORDON B. HINCKLEY

“A Prophet’s Counsel and Prayer for Youth,” Ensign, Jan. 2001
What Keeps People from Education?
YOU CAN DO IT
My young brothers and sisters, don’t take counsel of
your fears. Don’t say to yourselves, ‘I’m not wise
enough, or I can’t apply myself sufficiently well to
study this difficult subject or in this difficult field, so
I shall choose the easier way.’ I plead with you to
tax your talent, and our Heavenly Father will make
you equal to those decisions.

“Life’s Greatest Decisions,” CES Fireside, Sept. 2003
