12. BM LED indications and OB display indications

108

12.1 Base module error codes with three-coloured LED

On all base module units, including the BM1 and MB2 unit, a LED is placed on the terminal
print that lights in three different colours:

• RED
• GREEN
• ORANGE

The LED indicates the status of the unit by means of various flash sequences or a constant
light. The meaning of the various flash sequences are listed below:

12.1.1 Constant light:

Colour Meaning Further explanation / possible source of error
indication
No light Power off No power to the module or the module is defect

Constant Normal status Appears OK

green light
Constant HW error Power to the module OK, but the processor does not start. It
orange light may be a software problem, but normally the error is due to
a missing program (missing or faulty flash programming) or
a defect module
Constant HW error Constant red light is not used for direct error indication and
red light therefore it only occurs with functional lockup or another
HW error on the module., including electrical Interference
(EMC).

12.1.2 Green flash:

No of flashes Meaning Further explanation / possible source of error
xxxx xxxx One or several interlink modules are off-line or incorrectly
set up on / of SW2

12.1.3 Green/red flash:

No of flashes Meaning Further explanation / possible source of error
Red-green- Empty unit The unit does not contain a program code, but only a code
yellow-off which is able to perform a CODELOAD function.
alternately14

12.1.4 Orange flash:

No of flashes Meaning Further explanation / possible source of error
1 Defect Serial EEPROM data communication defect
EEPROM
2 Defect R/W to circuit impossible
Bat.backed
SRAM
3 I/O error Reading of reference voltage, etc, wrong
4 Unit No The address of the unit on the network is 0 or 255.
wrong

14
On older boards, this may also be indicated by green-red alternating flashes.
109

5 Unknown int. Unknown interrupt which is not handled by SW

6 Malloc Memory allocation error
7 FEJLST Network error. Buffer where faulty packages are placed
overflow overflowed???? SW error.
8 AB_TRBUF Internal AC-net error
EMP_INT
9 AB_DMAC_ Internal AC-net error
ERR
10 Unknown trap Unknown software interrupt
11 Unknown Data type wrong on internal register
type
12 RS232 driver Error in the RS2323 driver – normally MODBUS driver
13 IUP_Load Load of “Internal User Program” failed. Not active.
14 IUP_Debug Error in the debug function to the IUP. Not active.
15 Custom driver Error in the loading of custom driver. Not active.
16 Logic function Internal software error specific for BM1 and BM2.
error
17 SUPERV no Internal table reference error during initialisation (SW)
link

12.1.5 Red flash:

No of flashes Meaning Further explanation / possible source of error
1 Self check Internal self-check routine detected fatal error, SRAM
error write/read error, check-sum error on EEPROM or similar.
2 Exception: R/W of non-existing memory mapped I/O device
Bus error
3 Exception: R/W of word size to odd address
Add Error
4 Exception: Unknown program code read from program memory.
Illegal Typsim error in EEPROM.
instruction
5 Exception: Divided by zero in SW.
Divide by
zero
6 Exception: HW or EMC error may provoke this error
CHK
instruction
7 Exception: HW or EMC error may provoke this error
TRAPV
instruction
8 Exception: Privileged instructions are not used. Should not occur.
Privilege
Violation
9 Exception: Internal debugging exception which is used by real-time
Trace debuggers. Should not occur.
10 Exception: Internal debugging exception which is used by real-time
Line 1010 debuggers. Should not occur.
emulator
11 Exception: Internal debugging exception which is used by real-time
Line 1111 debuggers. Should not occur.
emulator
12 Exception:
Unassigned
110

13 Exception:
Unassigned
14 Exception:
Unassigned
15 Exception: HW or EMC error may provoke error.
??? interrupt

12.2 OB Module display messages

Display: Description:

READY Shown for a few seconds when the OB module is powered on, indicating that the internal
self test of the module was successfully completed.

OFFLN The OB module is OFFLINE. There is no communication from the Base Module to the OB
module. This message will briefly appear when powering on the system, indicating that the
Base Module has been reset.
Other causes:
• Defective link between BM and OB module.
• No power on BM.
• BM fatal hardware or software error. Indicated by red or yellow light or flashes on the
BM two-coloured LED.

ERR-1 Indicates cable break or sensor failure on the corresponding input.

Note: In case of engine RPM pickup failure or TC RPM pickup failure the indication will
flash between ERR-1 and rpm indication. This is done in order to trouble shoot in
the event of very low rpm on the TC or occasionally a fault on the pickups.

FAULT Indicates that the BM module has entered failsafe mode either because of a fatal software
or hardware fault.

----- Shown if the exhaust temperature is selected for an invalid cylinder number.

12.3 Base Module lamp indicating fuse F2 failure

On the Base Module are placed two fuses, named F1 and F2:

F1: This is the primary fuse for the modules, which fuses the controller of the module and
most I/Os.

F2: This fuse protects the power supply for the valves controlled by the BM relay outputs
and depending on the hardware version of the PC Board also protects the power
supply for some of the sensor inputs:

F1
F2
F2-LED

I/Os protected by F1 and F2 depending on BM hardware revision:

Relay outputs 4-20mA Tacho DI-15 CPU Board

BM PCB board with 24V on/off inputs supply Jet-assist and system
0170 revision (J20, J21) (J14) (J19) (J30) control
A F2 F2 F2 F2 F1
B F2 F2 F2 F2 F1
C F2 F2 F2 F2 F1
D F2 F2 F2 F2 F1
E F2 F1 F1 F1 F1
F F2 F1 F1 F1 F1
G F2 F1 F1 F1 F1
H F2 F1 F1 F1 F1

On PCB 0170 revision F and later, a green LED indicates the status of F2 (“F2-LED”).
