Chapter 1
Introduction

1.1 Introduction

In the competitive food industry, understanding customer preferences and market trends is
essential for business success. This study focuses on a comprehensive data analysis project aimed
at enhancing decision-making processes and optimizing business strategies for a client's pizza
café. Leveraging the advanced analytics capabilities of Power BI and the robust data management
features of SQL, the project aims to uncover valuable insights into customer behaviors,
consumption patterns, and market dynamics. These insights are expected to provide the client
with actionable information to drive growth and stay ahead in the competitive pizza market.

1.2 Motivation

The motivation behind this project stems from the client's need to gain a competitive edge in the
crowded pizza market. By leveraging data analytics, the client aims to better understand their
customers' preferences and market trends, enabling them to make informed decisions that drive
growth and improve operational efficiency. The use of Power BI and SQL allows for a deep dive
into sales data, providing valuable insights that can be used to optimize menu offerings, tailor
marketing strategies, and enhance overall customer satisfaction. Ultimately, the goal is to
empower the client with the tools and insights needed to succeed in the competitive industry.

1.3 Problem Statement & Objectives

Problem statement:
Our client, a pizza café, seeks to enhance their business performance by analyzing key indicators
in their pizza sales data. Specifically, they aim to calculate several metrics to gain insights into
their operations and customer behaviors. These metrics include Total Revenue, Average Order
Value, Total Pizzas Sold, Total Orders, and Average Pizzas Per Order.

The client's goal is to leverage this analysis to optimize their menu offerings, pricing strategies,
and marketing efforts. By understanding these key indicators, the client aims to improve their
business strategies and drive growth in the competitive pizza market.

1
Objectives:

 Understanding customer preferences

 Identifying sales trends

 Segmentation and targeting

 Optimizing inventory management

 Enhancing Menu Offerings

Chapter 2
Literature Survey

2.1 Survey of Existing System

The current system for tracking pizza sales at the client's pizza café relies on manual record-
keeping and basic spreadsheet analysis. Sales data, including transaction details and customer
information, is recorded manually by staff using pen and paper or basic digital spreadsheets.
This process is time-consuming and prone to errors, leading to inefficiencies in data
management and analysis.
Data analysis in the current system is primarily limited to basic calculations, such as total
revenue and total number of orders, performed manually using spreadsheet formulas. There is
no systematic approach to analyzing key performance indicators or gaining deeper insights into
customer behaviors and market trends.
The current system also lacks real-time reporting capabilities, as data must be manually entered
and processed before any analysis can be performed. This hinders the ability to make timely
and informed decisions based on up-to-date information.
Overall, the current system for tracking pizza sales is inefficient, error-prone, and limited in its
ability to provide meaningful insights for decision-making. There is a clear need for a more
automated and sophisticated system that can streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting
processes to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.

2.2 Limitation of existing system

The limitations of Existing System are as follows:

 Manual Data Entry: The current system relies heavily on manual data entry, which is
time-consuming and prone to errors. This can lead to inaccuracies in sales data and
analysis.

 Lack of Automation: There is a lack of automation in data collection and analysis

processes. This results in inefficiencies and delays in generating insights from the data.

 Limited Analysis Capabilities: The current system only allows for basic analysis, such
as calculating total revenue and total orders. It lacks the ability to perform more advanced
analysis to uncover valuable insights into customer behaviors and market trends.

 Lack of Real-time Reporting: Due to the manual nature of data entry and analysis, the
current system does not provide real-time reporting capabilities. This hinders the ability

3
to make timely decisions based on up-to-date information.

2.3 Mini Project Contribution

 For our group mini project, we created a dashboard using Power BI to visualize the
client's pizza sales data and calculate key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Total
Revenue, Average Order Value, Total Pizzas Sold, Total Orders, and Average Pizzas
Per Order.
 The dashboard consisted of interactive visualizations like charts and graphs, providing
a comprehensive overview of sales performance. We also included filters and slicers to
allow users to explore the data in more detail.
 Additionally, the dashboard was designed to be user-friendly and visually appealing,
making it easy for the client to understand and derive insights from the data. It was set
up to update automatically as new sales data is added, providing real-time insights into
the client's business performance.
 By creating this dashboard, we aimed to help the client optimize their business strategies
and drive growth in the competitive pizza market.

Chapter 3
Proposed System

3.1 Introduction
The languages and other technology used in our project are as follows:
1. Power Bi
Power BI is a powerful business intelligence tool developed by Microsoft that allows users
to visualize and analyze data with greater speed, efficiency, and understanding. It enables
users to connect to various data
sources, such as databases,
spreadsheets, and online services, to
create interactive reports and
dashboards. With Power BI, users can
easily transform raw data into
meaningful insights, enabling informed
decision-making and driving business
growth. Fig: Power Bi

One of the key features of Power BI is its user-friendly interface, which allows users to
create visually appealing and interactive reports without the need for extensive technical
expertise. The drag-and-drop functionality makes it easy to design and customize
visualizations to suit specific business needs. Additionally, Power BI offers a wide range of
visualization options, including charts, graphs, maps, and tables, allowing users to present
data in a clear and compelling manner.

Another advantage of Power BI is its integration with other Microsoft products, such as
Excel, Azure, and Dynamics 365, as well as third-party applications. This integration allows
users to seamlessly import data from these sources and incorporate it into their Power BI
reports, providing a comprehensive view of their data. Overall, Power BI is a versatile and
powerful tool that empowers users to unlock the full potential of their data and drive business
success.

2. Microsoft SQL Server

Microsoft SQL Server is a comprehensive relational database management system (RDBMS)
developed by Microsoft. It is designed to store and retrieve data requested by other software

5
applications, providing a secure and scalable platform for man aging large volumes of data. SQL
Server supports various types of data, including
structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data,
making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

One of the key features of SQL Server is its robust

security features, which include encryption,
authentication, and authorization mechanisms to protect
data from unauthorized access. Additionally, SQL Server
offers advanced analytics capabilities, allowing users to
perform complex data analysis and generate insights from

their data.

SQL Server also provides high availability and disaster recovery solutions, such as failover
clustering and database mirroring, to ensure that data is always accessible and protected against
hardware failures or other disasters. Furthermore, SQL Server integrates seamlessly with other
Microsoft products, such as Excel and Power BI, as well as third-party applications, making it a
versatile and powerful tool for managing and analyzing data.

3.6 Conclusion and Future Work

Our group successfully completed the mini project by creating a Power BI dashboard to visualize
the client's pizza sales data and calculate key performance indicators (KPIs). The dashboard
provided valuable insights into sales performance, allowing the client to make informed
decisions and optimize their business strategies. By leveraging Power BI's interactive
visualizations and real-time updating capabilities, we were able to deliver a user-friendly and
efficient solution that met the client's needs.
Future Work: In the future, we could further enhance the dashboard by integrating additional
data sources, such as customer feedback or social media data, to provide a more comprehensive
view of the client's business. We could also incorporate predictive analytics to forecast future
sales trends and help the client make proactive decisions. Additionally, we could explore the use
of advanced machine learning algorithms to uncover hidden patterns in the data and provide
more accurate insights. Overall, there is great potential for further development and improvement
of the dashboard to continue driving business growth for the client.
