PROCEDURE : A. Preparation

B. Motivation
Can you recall how to subtract 10⁄11 − 3⁄11?

C. Presentation
▪ To add/subtract two similar fractions (fractions with the same
denominator), add/subtract the numerators and copy the common
denominator.

If a, b and c are integers, and b ≠ 0, then 𝒃 − 𝒃 = 𝒃
▪ To subtract dissimilar fractions;
1.Express the fractions in similar form using the Least Common
Multiple (LCM).
2. Subtract the numerators of the resulting fractions.
3. Write the result as a fraction whose numerator is difference of the
numerators and whose denominator is the LCM. Express the answer
in the simplest form.

2. 7⁄9 − 1⁄12 4. 11 5⁄9 − 7 5⁄6

Ask the students to answer Exercise A. number 8 and B number 4 on page 51
