Everyone has an elderly person in his life, either his family or the grandparents,
or they may be their uncle or aunt. we can also meet older adults at our university,
at our work, or during our whole day on the streets. Whether it’s a parent, a
grandparent, a relative, a friend, or perhaps ourselves, the new challenges and
changes that include aging require our flexibility, openness to alter, and acceptance
of a brand-new way of life. rather than specializing in the negatives, we may go
along with our senior years and long-term care (any decline in health, physical
mobility, cognitive ability, and social isolation). There are many ways you'll be
able to do your bit to assist lonely or socially isolated elderly people in your
community.
We should take care of our elders because,

• They are your parents or loved ones.

The elderly do not appear anywhere; they are family. You can't forget about
all the love, affection, care, and support.

• They are more prone to illnesses.

It is true that as a person becomes older, their body system becomes weaker.
As a result, older people are more susceptible to illnesses. If elderly
individuals are not properly cared for, they may develop high blood
pressure, heart failure, diabetes, and arthritis.

• They need to feel a sense of belonging.

Because they lived at a previous age and the community evolves daily,
people get more detached from society's trends and events as they grow
older. They may become disoriented as a result of societal events at some
point.

• Their time is shorter.

We must realize that the older we get, the closer we approach death and that
we will never be able to escape it. The mere realization of this can have a
significant impact on anyone’s psychology. It is obvious that the elderly
demand greater attention and care.

• They teach precious life lessons.

Our elders are wiser and more knowledgeable than any of us. Their
experiences amid life’s storms provide them with invaluable wisdom. We
owe it to them to learn from their knowledge and intelligence since they've
come so far and learned so much. So, pay attention to what they have to say
and learn as much as you can from them.

• They are human and need comfort.

Because they have tired and worked a lot in their lives, they need to rest now
that they have done their duty towards their family and their country.

There are many things that we can make to take care of our elders. We will discuss
two ways two of these ways.

Many seniors want someone to talk to. This is especially true if they live in a
nursing home. They don't get nearly as many visitors as they would like, so it's our
responsibility to go. Set aside time each week to visit and talk with the elderly.
This is the most important task and does not take much time. Once you have
allotted some time, make a list of topics to talk to him about. Keep in mind that
they have all lived full lives and have had enough to talk about. Bring a voice
recorder with you if you want to record his/her story for posterity, but be sure to
ask permission to record. In addition, there are a lot of activities that seniors can
participate in, for example: going on a car trip or playing a board game.

Now, we will talk about the second way to help the elder which I think is not a
certain way but I think the difference between it and the first way is that the first
way is voluntary for us on the other hand the second way is mandatory and we
should put that in our minds that what we make to help to help elder is from our
religion and humanity. now, Let's start with physical support, most elder people
have weak bodies so we can help them with transportation by carrying their bags
or by sitting them instead of us or by assisting them to cross the street. Also, we
can make teams (in banks, companies, etc..) only to help elder people to finish
what they want to do in these places and make them like a rest corner in these
places to rest there until one of the team finishes their interests.

Besides volunteers giving, they gain a lot. Volunteers have countless benefits from
helping others. Here are some of the benefits:

● Encouraging social interaction and avoiding loneliness.

Loneliness and social isolation are very severe for everyone. Volunteering
supports social interaction. It adds fun and happiness to your life which is a
key to success.
● Giving experience in life and a lot of knowledge.
Sitting with older people and listening to them helps in gaining a lot of
knowledge and experience. So, it allows volunteers to solve their problems
from the lifelong skills of elderly people.
● Gaining confidence and self-esteem.
Volunteering for young people changes their life. It gives them confidence,
encouragement, and self-esteem.
● Decreasing stresses of daily life and improving health.
Speaking with elderly people and making relationships with them helps in
decreasing stress. This helps in boosting the immune system and improving
health.
● Spending time on useful activities and preventing wasting it on bad things.
One of the most important things is estimating time and knowing its value.
So, spending time doing useful activities or useful hobbies with them
prevents wasting it on bad things.
To sum up, Helping the elderly persons in our homes and our communities is the
responsibility of everyone. We should not see them as a burden to us instead, we
should use that as a chance to return the love and care they gave us when they were
raising us. Consequently, caring for the elderly can no longer be the responsibility
of the immediate family alone, but has to be a prerogative of governments, non-
governmental organizations as well as private institutions. We represented two
methods only to help people but there are more methods that we can use for
helping elder people like organizing a winter coat drive to keep the elder warm
during the winter and others. These few examples can help elder people and these
are from duties and we should keep in mind that one day we will be instead of
them and we will need this help so help elders so in the future you will find
someone like you in the past.
