The EGD teacher must ensure that every learner receives a copy of the entire grade
specific SECTION B of the 2024 PAT document.

Although the phases could be done either CYCLICALLY or in BLOCK TIMES, as indicated in
the EGD CAPS, it is recommended that ONE ENTIRE DAY per term, e.g. as an extra paper
during the June examinations, be allocated for each phase.

To ensure that the PAT is completed within the stipulated timeframe (deadlines) it is essential
that the teacher draw up a PAT pacesetter/management plan, with target dates that are in
line with the KZN prescribed 2024 EGD PAT Management Plan, for the learners at the
beginning of the year. This will help learners to assess their own progress and teachers to set
up intervention programmes.

NOTE:
ALL the presentation requirements of the selected PAT must be adhered to and, with
the exception of the required research, completed at school under the guidance and
supervision of the EGD teacher, who must observe the learners' progress at all times.
Not adhering to this instruction will be deemed to be an examination irregularity.
It is the teacher's responsibility to ensure that each learner's PAT is of an appropriate
higher-order Grade 10 or Grade 11 complexity.

ASSESSMENT AND MODERATION OF THE PAT

Assessment
The assessment of the PAT must be done according to the included grade specific
Assessment Criteria and Checklist.

Clarification of level descriptive and the verification of marks:

A 1-mark level descriptive:
1-mark level 0 Requirement not met or presented incorrectly
descriptive 1 Requirement has been met and/or presented correctly

This level descriptor is used for elementary/basic presentation requirements and/or

drawing features, and must be applied as follows:
'0' (zero) must be allocated for the requirement NOT MET, or if the
PRESENTATION thereof is INCORRECT.
1 mark may only be allocated if the REQUIREMENT HAS BEEN FULLY MET and
the PRESENTATION THEREOF IS CORRECT.

A 2-mark level descriptive:

0 Requirement not met, or less than 30% evidence of knowledge shown (poor)
2-mark level
1 Requirement included and at least 30%+ evidence of knowledge shown (average)
descriptive
2 Presentation shows at least 80% or more evidence of knowledge (very good)

'0' (zero) must be allocated if the requirement has NOT been INCLUDED/SHOWN,
or if the presentation of the requirement shows LESS THAN 30% EVIDENCE OF
KNOWLEDGE, or when the requirement is VERY POOR.
1 mark must be allocated if the presentation of the requirement shows AT LEAST
30% OR MORE EVIDENCE OF KNOWLEDGE, or the requirement is NOT
complete or completely correct, compliant and/or clear, i.e. AVERAGE.
2 marks may only be allocated if the presentation of the requirement shows AT
LEAST 80% OR MORE EVIDENCE OF KNOWLEDGE and the requirement is
complete and correct, compliant and clear, i.e. VERY GOOD.
A 7-mark level descriptive:
DESCRIPTION for MARK GENERAL INDICATORS ± PERCENTAGE MARK
PERFECT Error free 100% 7
± 80% + 6
Few errors
SUBSTANTIAL ± 70% 5
± 55%
ADEQUATE 4
Some errors
± 40%
MODERATE 3
ELEMENTARY Many errors ± 33% 2
NOT ACHIEVED Completely wrong ± 25% & LESS 1
NON-COMPLIANT/NOT DONE No evidence Nothing to mark 0
This implies that a 7 can only be allocated if the presentation requirement is
completely, i.e. 100%, correct/compliant, i.e. perfect and error free.
Engineering Graphics & Design 4 2024 Grade 11 PAT

Verification of ALL final marks out of 10:

Each final mark out of 10 for each assessment criteria must be verified according to
the simplified 10-mark rubric on page 23 of this document. This implies that a 10 can
only be allocated if the presentation requirement is completely, i.e. 100%
correct/compliant, i.e. perfect and error free.

Rounding off of marks:

Each mark out of 10 must be rounded off before being captured.

Moderation
The moderation of the PAT must be done according to the included grade specific
Assessment Criteria and Checklists.
Monitoring and/or moderation of the PAT can take place at any time during the development
of the PAT. ALL completed presentation requirements of the PAT must therefore always
be available at the school.

Declaration of authenticity
Prior to the final submission of the PAT for formative assessment, ALL the learners and the
teacher must complete the declaration of authenticity.

NOTE:
ONLY the grade specific 2024 SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT SHEET, the completed
DECLARATION OF AUTHENTICITY and the grade specific ASSESSMENT CRITERIA and
CHECKLIST of this document must be included in the PAT as part of the learner's
completed PAT.
Engineering Graphics & Design 13 2024 Grade 11 PAT
GRADE 11 SECTION B (LEARNER TASK)

General information and instructions:

The EGD PAT is a compulsory national formal assessment task that contributes 100
marks towards your final Grade 10 and 11 Promotion mark.
ALL the presentation requirements of the PAT must be adhered to and, with the
exception of the required research, completed at school, under the guidance and
supervision of your EGD teacher.
Although the sharing of knowledge and information is permissible, the PAT must be
completed individually and ALL the presentations, including the front page and index,
must be your own original work.
The PAT must be completed in phases and within the given time frame of your
teacher's PAT work schedule/pace setter/management plan.
ALL freehand drawings and instrument drawings must be prepared in pencil.
The PAT must be of an appropriate higher-order of complexity for the grade.
The PAT will be assessed according to the included grade specific ASSESSMENT
CRITERIA and CHECKLIST
The grade specific CHECKLIST must be used to provide clear evidence of
continuous self-assessment.
Untidy and messy work, as well as the late submission of presentation requirements, will
be penalised.

GRADE 11 PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT TASK

A civil design project

Scenario

A local property development company commissioned you to design a small single-story

shopping centre on a piece of land in your area that has recently been rezoned from small
holding to commercial, and to supply them with a set of working drawings of your design
solution. The total area of the shopping centre may not exceed 220m², and must consist
of three separate shops of which the entrances (i.e. the front of each shop) must face in
the same direction

The main tenant will be a general dealer who will take up most of the floor space. The
general store must have a fire escape and a build-in counter(s) for a till point(s).

The other two tenants will be a baker and a butcher. The bakery must have a floor area of
less than 60 m². It must have a double sink, a display cabinet to present prepared products
and a build-in counter for a till point(s).

The butchery must have a floor area of less than 70 m², which must include a walk-in
refrigerator that may not take up more than 18 m² of the floor space. It must have a double
sink, a refrigerated display cabinet to present prepared meat products and a build-in
counter for a till point(s).

All three shops must have large shop frontage glass windows and doors. An awning (a
wall mounted canopy) must be attached to the front of the shopping centre to cover a 1,5
m wide walkway that will run the length of the three shops. The awning may be of any
suitable material and it does not have to cover the entire 1,5 m of the walkway.
Engineering Graphics & Design 14 2024 Grade 11 PAT

The front of the shopping centre must have a façade (i.e. a high wall) with enough space
above the awning for the signage of each shop. The rest of the shopping centre behind the
façade must be covered by a mono pitch roof.

A courtyard, surrounded by a 3 m high brick wall with a single sliding gate, must be
placed at the rear of the shopping centre, and must be accessible from for all three shops.
The entrance to the courtyard may not be visible from the front of the shopping centre.
The courtyard must include an area for deliveries, an area for waste disposal and the
entrances to toilet facilities for the staff. The toilet facilities must be included in the total
area of the small shopping centre and must only be accessible from the courtyard. The
male facility must have two urinals, a toilet and a hand wash basin, and the female facility
three toilets and a hand wash basin.

PHASE 1 presentation requirements

1. Analyse the given scenario and formulate a design brief in two paragraphs:
The first paragraph must, in your own words, include a brief background to the
project, as well as a detailed and comprehensive description of what has to be
designed.
The second paragraph must, in your own words, give a clear overview of your
role in the project, as well as the design process that you are going to follow to
arrive at a proposed solution.

From the scenario and your teacher's management plan, include the following as
part of the design brief:
Identify and list a minimum of FIFTEEN specifications.
List a minimum of THREE possible constraints.
A management plan, which specifies target dates for the completion of each
presentation requirement.

2. Conduct your own research on:

Layouts and placing of till points, refrigerated display cabinets and walk-in
refrigerators in small shops, bakeries and butcheries
Designs and construction detail of awnings
Sizes and details of large shop frontage glass windows and doors

NOTE:
- The research must be relevant and should therefore be primarily in the form of
graphic material, i.e. pictures and/or illustrations.
- Evidence of ALL the required research material must be included in the PAT.
- The presentation of the research material should be aesthetically presented and
may NOT exceed TWO A4 or ONE A3 pages per topic.
- There must be clear evidence that the research has been used in your proposed
design solution.
- Include a list of ALL references used. (Bibliography)
Engineering Graphics & Design 15 2024 Grade 11 PAT

3. Prepare neat detailed FREEHAND DRAWINGS of the layout, i.e. floor plan, of TWO
possible design solutions for the proposed shopping centre. Each freehand drawing
must show the correct presentation of ALL the building features, the permanent
sanitary fixtures, the till points, the two display cabinets, the walk-in refrigerator, the
courtyard, the walkway as well as the primary dimensions and labels.
The calculation of the total area of the shopping centre as well as the floor areas of
the bakery, the butchery and the walk-in refrigerator of each solution, must be clearly
shown in a table on each freehand drawing.

NOTE:
- Grid/Graph paper must be used to generate the freehand drawings so that ALL
features and fixtures are drawn to proportion. Evidence of the grid/graph paper
used must be included in the PAT.
- All the drawings must comply with the SANS 10143 Guidelines.
- These drawings must provide clear evidence that a high level of competency
has been attained in freehand drawing.

4. Select the best solution, which demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the scenario
within the context of the design brief, specifications and constraints.

On a separate page, evaluate and compare the TWO freehand solutions by:
Creating a table with a minimum of FOUR relevant and self-explanatory
descriptive criteria
Creating and applying a simple rating scale to score each solution against
each criterion
Justifying each score by describing the positive and/or negative aspects of
each solution against each criterion

Complete the process by writing a comprehensive summary giving reasons for the
selected freehand solution.
The summary must also include whether there were any late changes made to the
selected freehand solution.

PHASE 2 presentation requirements

5. Present the selected solution as a set of working drawings (5.1) and a pictorial
drawing (5.2) that adhere to the following:
All the working drawings must be presented on appropriately sized drawing
sheets, correctly set up with borders. ONLY the first working drawing drawing
sheet (probably 5.1.1), has to be set up with a complete civil title panel.
The drawings must provide clear evidence that a high level of competency had
been attained in the following TWO required EGD drawing methods:
Instrument drawings
CAD (Computer-aided Drawing/Design)
NOTE:
- Schools that do not have CAD facilities must prepare all the required
drawings (5.1 and 5.2) as instrument drawings.
- ONE of the working drawing views (i.e. 5.1.1, 5.1.2 or 5.1.3) should, where
CAD is available and is being taught, be prepared using a CAD system and
the other working drawing views as instrument drawings.
Engineering Graphics & Design 16 2024 Grade 11 PAT

- The perspective drawing (5.2) may be prepared either as an instrument

drawing or by using a CAD system.
The title panel and ALL the working drawings must comply with the SANS 10143
Guidelines.

5.1 Draw, to a suitable scale(s), detailed layout drawings of the selected proposed
shopping centre, including the courtyard and covered walkway, clearly
showing all the required building features.
The layout drawings must show the following orthographic views:
5.1.1 The FLOOR PLAN
5.1.2 A SCALE 1 : 20 DETAILED SECTION that includes the façade, a shop
frontage glass windows, the walkway and awning. The detail of the
section must be up to the ceiling height only, but not including the ceiling,
on the inside (shop side) of the façade.
5.1.3 TWO elevations, showing the front view (i.e. the entrances to the three
shops) and a side view of the shopping centre. ONLY the pitch, and no
detail, of the roof must be shown!
The following must also be included on all relevant views:
ALL permanent sanitary fixtures as well as the till points, the two
display cabinets and walk-in refrigerator
Titles, labels and notes
Scale(s)
Dimensions
Cutting plane
ALL hatching detail

5.2 Draw a detailed human eye view TWO-POINT PERSPECTIVE DRAWING of the
proposed shopping centre, clearly showing the covered walkway and the
entrances to the three shops. The horizon line (HL) must be ±1,7 m above the
ground line (GL).
Evidence of the following must be included:
All views/drawings used to produce the drawing
The construction method used to produce the drawing
NOTE:
Use a Copy of the perspective drawing, which may contain artistic features, as
the picture for the cover page of the PAT.

PHASE 3 presentation requirements

Create a PAT containing:
A complete cover page
An index
The Grade 11 SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT SHEET
