Unit Learning Outcomes ULO1: Analyse workplace information needs by optimising querying, storing and
Addressed indexing databases
Assessment Objective Students will deliver a portfolio of small database tasks (including design and
implementation small-size databases, writing queries and creating reports) via lab
exercises and weekly tasks.
Instructions to Students Lab exercises will be supported by the lecturer. Assessed tasks need to be completed
by the students during lab hours of the respective weeks and submitted in Moodle.

ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTION:
Lab exercises are provided weekly to allow students to apply the concepts learned during lectures and
reinforce their understanding. Engaging in regular practice will enable students to proficiently design and
implement database solutions. The assessed component of these exercises will be conducted in Weeks 4, 6,
and 8.
TASK1: In Week 4, students will receive a business scenario. Their task will be to extract the business
requirements from this scenario and create a database model using an Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD).
TASK2: In Week 6, students will be given an Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD). Their objective will be to use
this ERD to construct the corresponding database.
TASK 3. In Week 8, students will receive a SQL file containing a database. You will be required to formulate
queries and run those queries. The formulated queries and results should be submitted in Moodle.
Note: Database file will only be provided in week 8, during lab hours
