Definition:
Sustainabledevelopment: is development
that meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own
needs.
Importance of sustainable
development:
Sustainability is important for a very simple reason : we cannot maintain our
quality of life as human beings, the diversity of life on Earth, or Earth’s
ecosystems unless we embrace it. There are indications from all quarters and
from the smallest to the largest scale that sustainability is something we must
address. We will run out of fossil fuels. Thousands if not millions of animal
species will become extinct. We will run out of lumber. We will damage the
atmosphere beyond repair… so sustainable development always encourages us
to conserve and enhance our resources, by gradually changing the manners in
which we develop and use technologies. All countries should meet their basic
needs of employment, food, energy, water and sanitation. In short,
sustainability is the key to a better future. Humans rely on natural resources
for business, activities, and survival. Ignoring sustainability can lead to the
exhaustion of natural resources.
Concepts:
Throughout the evolution of the concept of sustainable development there
was consensus on the fact that it does not focus solely on environmental
issues. The three interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars are:
Economic development
Construction Industry
Since the construction industry
produces a large amount of waste,
contractors and owners of these
companies must reduce their
impact by recycling wherever
possible. This will lead to a healthy
workplace and environment.
Sustainable Infrastructure Nuclear Technology
COST REDUCTION
INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY
IMPROVED HEALTH
WASTE MINIMIZATION
BETTER USE OF MATERIALS
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
NOISE AVOIDANCE
BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE
