SSB Interview Procedure

SSB is a Personality based selection

Personality Assessment implies study of the mask

i.e. penetrating through the outer mask and to
see who are you from inside - ie. your value
system, belief system, attitude, needs, motives

looking for in each candidate?
What is this IT that SSB is
looking for in each candidate?
At the SSB, the Psychologist, the GTO and
the IO evaluates each candidates in four
Dimensions of his/her Personality as
follows:

Factor-I: Qualities of Head (IQ)

Factor-II: Qualities of Heart (EQ)
Factor-III: Social Effectiveness
Factor IV: Dynamic Qualities

Within the Factor-I OLQs, REASONING

ABILITY is called as the Mother of all OLQs.

Physical Fitness is a necessary

Physical
condition but not sufficient
Quotient (PQ) condition.

When you join the Indian Armed Forces in the Soldier

Cadre, Physical Fitness is the dominant requirement;
where as in case of SSB Interview, Physical Fitness in
one of the many requirement.

So a SSB Coaching which only works on your Physical

Dimension and ignores the development of your IQ,
EQ & SQ is completely meaningless and must be
avoided

The Psychological Tests in the SSB are based on the concept of
Projective Technique. The definition of Projective Technique is as
under:
PROJECTIVE TECHNIQUE IS AN INSTRUMENT THAT IS
CONSIDERED SPECIALLY SENSITIVE TO COVER OR
UNCONSCIOUS ASPECTS OF BEHAVIOUR. IT PERMITS AND
ENCOURAGES A WIDE VARIETY OF RESPONSES. IT IS HIGHLY
MULTIDIMENSIONAL AND IT ENVOKES USUALLY RICH
RESPONSE DATA WITHIN A MINIMUM OF SUBJECT AWARENESS,
CONCERNING THE PURPOSE OF TESTS.
- LINDEY

ADVANTAGES OF PROJECTIVE TECHNIQUE

(a) Individual cannot falsify his responses.
(b) Reveals unconscious material.
(c) Reveals emotions, conflict, motives.
(d) Gives global view.
(e) Less effected by situational factor.

DISADVANTAGES OF PROJECTIVE TECHNIQUE

Sample Stories:
Acceptable & Unacceptable

To the above picture, I’ll give you a couple of

unacceptable responses along with its detailed
explanation and also one extremely good
sample response by an ex-AFOSOP candidate,
who was AIR-1 in 10+2 (TES) Entry and in NDA he
was AIR-3.
Sample Unacceptable Story-1

Raghu was a forest officer, poaching problems and

cutting down of trees was increasing day by day. Raghu
held a meeting with his team members and made a plan
of making electrified fences to prevent the poachers
from getting in and a strong and un-electrified fence
inside to prevent the animals coming in contact with
electrified fence, he also decided to talk with the
villagers to start planting tress rather cutting them. He put
down his plans in front of his seniors which was praised
and accepted, Raghu visited the forest and decided
where to make the fence and respectively it was made.
Raghu with his team nearby villages and talked with
them and gradually poaching problem was solved. And
Raghu then worked for looking after the health of the
animals in the forest.

For explanation
Sample acceptable Story

Ram & Laxman were two forest guards on routine

rounds in the jungle. While they were crossing the
river on their elephant they heard a rifle shot. They
immediately turned towards the gun shot sound
direction. Ram called up the control station &
informed them of the gun-shot. They heard a jeep
buzzing off with a few persons in it. Ram, again on
radio, alerted the control station, other guards & the
gates. They lost sight of the jeep; however the jeep
was intercepted near the eastern gate, by other
jeep mounted patrol. Four persons along with a
dead Black Buck was recovered from the jeep.
They were handed over to the superiors for their
further action.
