Various modes to select the fixed frequency

Mode of operation of the fixed frequencies for MICROMASTER 440 ID-No: 24043801
and SINAMICS G120

Application description
Contents
The fixed frequencies (FF) function allows a setpoint to be entered for the
drive – either via the analog inputs, the serial data interface, the JOG
function or the motorized potentiometer.
The differences between the FF parameterization for MICROMASTER and
SINAMICS will be described in the following.

MICROMASTER 440
For each FF selection, the mode can be individually selected using
parameters P1016 – P1019. This means, for example, that the user can
combine as required the different modes when selecting FF.
Copyright © Siemens AG 2006 All rights reserved

For MICROMASTER 440, the following modes are available to select the
App_FF_MM440 & G120f_en_V1.doc

fixed frequency (FF):

• Direct selection
• Direct selection + ON command
• Binary-coded selection + ON command

SINAMICS G120
For the G120 the objective included simplifying the parameterization and
therefore increasing the degree of usability.
The mode to select the FF is only centrally defined using parameter P1016.
This means that when selecting FF it is no longer possible to combine the
modes.
There are two ways of selecting fixed frequencies:
• Direct selection (P1016 = 1)
• Binary selection (P1016 = 2)

1 Various modes to select the fixed frequency

1.1 Modes for MICROMASTER 440

For MICROMASTER 440, the following modes are available to select the
fixed frequency (FF):
• Direct selection
• Direct selection + ON command
• Binary-coded selection + ON command

For each FF selection, the mode can be individually selected using

parameters P1016–P1019. This means, for example, that the user can

Direct selection:
In this mode, the control signal directly selects the fixed frequency. If
several fixed frequencies are simultaneously active, then the selected
frequencies are added.

Direct selection + ON command:

For this type of fixed frequency selection, the fixed frequencies are also
directly selected – whereby the selection is combined with the ON
command. With this technique, a separate ON command is not required.

Binary-coded selection + ON command:

Using this technique, 4 control signals can be used to select up to 16 fixed
frequencies. In this case, the fixed frequencies are indirectly selected using
the appropriate binary code – whereby the selection is combined with the
ON command.
Contrary to "direct selection + ON command", the ON command is only
active if the setting for the first four binary inputs is set to "binary-coded
selection + ON command" or P0701 = P0702 = P0703 = P0704 = 17.

1.2 Modes for SINAMICS G120

For the G120 drive the direct and binary-coded modes for fixed frequencies
are similar to those of MM440.
There are two ways of selecting fixed frequencies:
• Direct selection (P1016 = 1)
• Binary selection (P1016 = 2)

Differences to MICROMASTER 440

The mode to select FF is centrally defined using parameter P1016. This
means that when selecting, it is no longer possible to combine the modes.
The combination with an ON command is no longer possible. Instead, the
fixed frequency status bit r1025 (binector output) can be used to logically

combine the two selection modes for fixed frequencies with the ON
command. P0840 must be set to 1025 for this purpose. Please note that
App_FF_MM440 & G120f_en_V1.doc

the significance of P0840 can change when using the 2-/3 wire control
functionality.

Direct selection (P1016 = 1):

Just the same as for the MM440, in this particular mode, a control signal
directly selects the fixed frequency.

and SINAMICS G120

Binary-coded selection (P1016 = 2):

Using this technique up to 16 fixed frequencies can be selected using four
control signals. The fixed frequencies must be indirectly selected using the
appropriate binary coding. The methods for connecting the fixed frequency
selection inputs (P1020 to P1023) are the same as for the direct selection
method.

2 Fixed frequency setpoint

Description
For both drives the effective fixed frequency setpoint can be
interconnected via the connector output r1024. If this value is used as
setpoint source, then the parameter P1000 should be modified or BICO
parameter r1024 should be connected to the main setpoint P1070 or the
supplementary setpoint P1075.
The possible settings of the frequency setpoint (for fixed frequencies) of the

are listed in the following table.

3 Selecting fixed frequencies using digital inputs

Two connection methods are available to select fixed frequencies using
digital inputs:
• The standard method (this has priority over the BICO method)
• The BICO method

MICROMASTER 440
MICROMASTER 440 provides 6 digital inputs (P0701 … P0706) that can
be expanded to a total of 8 by using the two analog inputs (P0707 and
P0708).

4 Selecting frequency setpoints via binectors

To address the FF, a continuous signal is required at both drives at the
appropriate binector inputs. This can be any binary output parameter (BO
parameter) – e.g. a serial data interface – as well as also a digital input.
The parameters of the MM440 and the various CUs of the G120 are listed
in the following table; these parameters can be used as control signal to
select fixed frequencies.
