INTRODUCTION

Storage devices is any serveral pieces of computer equipment, such as magnetic disks, on which data
may be stored. Magnetic disk is device for storing information on computer, with magnetic surface that
records information recived in electronic form. It is also 'disk', it is circular plate made of metel or plastic
coated with magnetic layer. The data can recoreded on both sides of disk

KINDS OF STORAGE DEVICES


1. Hard Disk
2. Floppy Disk
3. Compact Disk
4. Digital Video Disk

HARD DISK
It is permanently fixed inside in CPU. It is used for storing data permanently hard drive can store very
large amount of data. A hard disk has much more strage capacity then floppy disk. The disk is divided
into separate areas for different types of data Each of these separate areas is called Directory. This is
organised way of storing data on disk. It is set of magnetic plates fixed one above other through spindle
to make up disk pack

FLOPPY DISK
It is portable plastic disk used for storing & transferring data & programs. It are used to move data from
one computer to another computer. It is square in size and can be read form or writtern on to by drive
mechanism called FLOPPY DISK DRIVE. It is electro-magnetically divided into many concentric (having
same centre circles) known as Tracks. Tracks is then divided into many sectors

It is circular in shape It is square in shape
It is fixed permanently inside CPU It is portable and can be taken out and inserted
into computer
Storage capacity is more than floppy disk Storage capacity is less then hard disk
It is used for storing data permanently It is used to store data temporarily
COMPACT DISK
It is used to store wide variety of imformation like dictionary, encyclopedia, video, images. Its main
feature is that it is very portable in size but can store vast amount of data and information

DIGITAL VIDEO DISK


A dvd looks like CD but it is capacity to contain up to 25 times more data then CD. The high storage
capacity of DVD lets computer user find more data and information than standard CD-ROMs
