Task 1 – Part 1

What do you want to achieve over the final 8 weeks on the

Foundation Programme?

Please respond to the questions below as a starting point. This

document is a Prop/Prompt for you and your developed answers
should be loaded as a scribd document in an appropriate position
on your Weebly site. You will update this proposal as you move
through the project, do not delete initial statements, add a date
each time you add a new statement to a particular section.

The final document should be loaded to your Weebly by the 6th of

May.

Question 1
Reflect on your work you've created so far and consider on how your use of materials,
tools, techniques and processes reflect the broader ideas and message that you are interested to
convey.

What materials, tools, techniques and processes have you used and how can you employ a broader
range of materials and techniques to explore your theme in Module 3?

For the previous projects I have explored with linos, pencil, graphite, pen, film and editing
film, Photoshop, ipads, cameras etc. I looked at quite a wide range so may be good for this
project to select a few and then find one media that works best for this project and then
develop my skills further in that particular media or I could look into new media such as
painting or coloured pencils as I haven’t produced anything using those medias this year.
This would also be good for this particular project as it’s all about experimenting and
planning so were more confident going into first year.

Question 2
Reflect upon the audience and method of dissemination for your work.

What does it communicate and who is it communicating to? What does it offer to the
viewer/customer/client and their lifestyle? Where will the work be situated? How can you market
your work?

For this project I would like to create an illustrated piece so far I have three ideas of what I
could create. Idea one being a piece on politics and why it’s important to vote in elections
which is very relevant at the moment as we have some elections coming up. So, for that
piece I would want that massage to be communicated to the viewer that they should take
part. Sue and I also discussed what style I would do this in and I like artists such as
Yoshitomo Nara and Ikumi Nakada which Sue also liked as we felt you could play around
with the vulnerable looking characters representing the public and how they often feel
venerable when voting because it has a large impact but they don't always feel educated
enough to vote. My second idea would be inspired by illustrator Robert valley whereby I
would illustrate a party like seen showing of the fun side of university and how great this
age is as your given large amounts of freedom without responsibility. I also really love this
style of illustrations as your creating portraits but then distorting them in fun ways. This
idea would also allow me to experiment more with colour as I haven’t really used a lot of
colour this year. Then for my third idea I have lots of images from when I when travelling
last year that I haven't really used and through I could potently create a vintage travel
poster encouraging young people to travel.

Question 3
We make, design, and produce work to be shared, and to elicit a reaction or provoke a response.

What response would you like to provoke in your Audience/Client/Viewer/User? Are you the kind of
designer/artist/producer who aims to disrupt - to entertain or to question? Is your work ironic,
playful, educational or political? Use this space to think about the response of your target audience
on viewing your work - how do you want them to react? What is an ideal response?

Idea one would be to provoke a political response in that young people should vote as it
has major impacts on their lives. Idea two would be to remind everyone to slow down and
enjoy these years at university and just to enjoy life. Idea three is to encourage young
people to want to travel and explore the world.

Task 1 – Part 1

What is your Project Concept?

In previous projects, we have focused on outcomes or objects, for this module we

are expecting you to design an investigation and for this to lead to an appropriate
outcome/object which embraces your specialism and matches your burgeoning
ambition.
Please outline the project themes - and the ideas that you wish to explore. Focus on the meaning
behind the work rather than processes, materials or skills. (There is a space for this information
further on in the document) This is a short module - so it is critical that you make a swift decision
and commit to an investigation early. We know that this is hard - but push yourself and work to
get to the making, design and production stage with confidence.

Idea one would be to provoke a political response in that young people should vote as it
has major impacts on their lives. This is important to me as I think voting should be
accessible to everyone. Idea two would be to remind everyone to slow down and enjoy
these years at university and just to enjoy life. This is important to me because I think we
often get caught up and don’t appreciate the small things. Idea three is to encourage young
people to want to travel and explore the world. This is important to me because I loved
travelling and I think if you get the opportunity you should go and experience new cultures.

Please give an overview of the project here.

What will your work look like? What technologies/tools/equipment/processes will you use?

I would like to draw the first two ideas using pencils or pens and then possibly use the
skills I’ve learnt in the tutor group lessons on Photoshop to give them a profession Finnish.
But if I were to go with the third idea I would use oil paints. All of these media and soft
ware I have access to and know how to use safety making them good options for the
project.

What skills will you need to develop in order to complete the work?
What will you need to learn? What existing strengths do you have that can help you to succeed?

This project with help me improve my proportions when drawing abstract movements and
help develop my illustration style in new media’s and colours.

What will you do to sustain your practice and to develop your motivation,
understanding and confidence?
This focus of this question is your research practice - what has already inspired, informed and
influenced you? How can you push yourself beyond your comfort zone here?

By choosing the idea I’m most excited for and that pushes me. Currently I feel that Ideas
one and two are the most interesting to me as I’ve wanted to research and practice my
technique the most. As, I love drawing people and turning them onto characters making the
piece far more exciting than just literally drawing what you see. I would also need to factor
in what I’m capable of during the time frame so that I don’t get flustered and then
unmotivated as I want a really nice piece to go up at my exhibition therefore I’m leaning
most towards ideas two as I love the idea and think it’s more manageable within the time
frame compared to ideas one and three.
Task 1 – Part 2

This is a short module - and scheduling your activity and planning out your production arc will
help to ensure that you keep the project on track, with time to make a quality artefact for the
exhibition. The best project concept in the world will not lead to a successful outcome without
good, pragmatic planning. Remember, gathering or "procuring" materials will take time - and
supplier availability and high costs will slow you down and impact on your ability to make work.
You must factor this into your schedule. A prohibitively high cost on a particular material or item
may prompt you to investigate a more easily sourced and cheaper alternative, which can
improve your carbon footprint - and improve the "sustainability" of the project.

Resources, Services and Tools - What will I need and what steps
must be taken to ensure access and availability?
What do you think you will need to complete the project? How can you begin to negotiate access
and co-ordinate your making with availability?

Resource - Service or Tool How do I access/acquire What additional understanding,

(Add to the list as you this? expenditure or skill do I need to
progress) exploit this resource well?

Sustainability
Use this page to identify aspects of your project relating to sustainability, unnecessary waste,
and environmental concerns. What might you do to manage this and reduce your impact? If you
can’t manage it directly, could you take action to offset your carbon footprint? How will you plan
for the end of life of your object/s, how will you remove it from the studio at the end of the
exhibition and how will you recycle and dispose of it? What is the recycling / disposal protocol for
the materials you are using? How is this affected once you combine materials together?

I will try to not use medias and materials unnecessary so when creating tests making sure
you testing put that media for a specific reason. I will dispose of any rubbish into the
correct bins. In regards to sustainability pencils are more environmentally freiendly than oil
paints as there is less likely to be waste and you’re not using water. So, this could be a
reason to opt for ideas one and two as I would use pencil or pen for them. For the actual
piece of art work it’s self at the end of the exhibition I would keep the piece for myself or I
could try to sell the piece so it has a purpose and can be used as decor rather than it being
binned at the end of the exhibition.

Task 1 – Part 2

Project Budget
Please list below any cost or expenditure associated with your project. The aim here is to identify
the actual cost of the work you have made, rather than the projected cost of a proposed
outcome. You do not need to list those materials that are freely available in the studios
(paper/pencils/acrylic paint etc) but do include more specific materials such as fabric, wood,
superglue, neoprene etc. You can add to this list as you progress through the project.

Item Purchased Supplier Cost

Coloured pencils (to experiment with and use in final Art shop £10 for a set
piece)

Nice pens (to experiment with and use in final piece) Art shop £2

Paper (for final piece) Art shop 50p

The Exhibition and planning for it is a key part of this module and must be considered alongside your
own emerging project. What are you going to exhibit? How should it be presented? How have other
creatives presented similar work? Research is key to help you to identify formats, conventions, and
approaches to sharing your outcome.

My planned outcome is best described as...

(Think about how the work will be created rather than how it will be shared or exhibited)

Traditional 2D (Drawing, Painting, Collage using real Yes No Not sure

tools/surfaces/materials) (Maybe)
Digital 2D - (Images produced using digital tools such as yes

A small 3D object displayed on a table or plinth. no

A moving image sequence which could be part no

of a showreel.

A virtual tool or artefact accessed through a no

computer, tablet or smart phone.

What will need to be in place in order for you to complete your final
piece and to achieve your ambition and aims?

I will need to make sure I have all of the correct equipment / Medias within the budget and
been able to carry out tests that show I understand how to use them safely and efficiently
in that there is little to no waste. I will also need to make sure I maintain motivation thought
by picking an idea that is very interesting to me so that I keep up with my timed plan and
therefore finish creating my final project on time along with all of the written tasks. Finally
that I have through about the scale of my piece and how that will affect others using the
studio when creating and when setting up the exhibition.

Project Planning and Scheduling

You cannot pass this module without completing a schedule. You must complete a realistic
project schedule in order to pass the module. An additional and more detailed day by day

What are the Health and Safety risks associated with my

chosen pipeline, workflow or exhibition method?
You must pick at least three and go on to explain the steps that you will take to ensure your
own safety and that of the people around you while working on the project. Evidence that
you have researched how this is managed in the creative industries AND applied it to your
own situation will enhance your submission.

Please note that while some substances may not be toxic or harmful, they may still have an
adverse impact on your peers. You will need to discuss any materials not already in regular
