Where is there resilience in the novel?

Resilience is portrayed all throughout the novel. From the way the old man was made fun of by the other
fishermen, and thus he had to be resilient not to allow the opinions of others to affect him, in any way.
To the way he was enduring the cramp in his left hand. Another example is how he was sacrificing his
back in order to hold onto the fish.

How do the characters demonstrate resilience?

Santiago's symbolic personal struggle continues when sharks attack his fish. The hero does not despair,
does not give up, and despite the fatigue and exhaustion, continues to fight, to defend the hard- won.
Neither the wounds on his hands nor the broken knife hinder him. And at the moment when it becomes
clear that Santiago has failed to save the fish, a key symbol of the writer's philosophy is revealed. The
hero didn't save the fish, but the hero didn't lose because, he fought to the end.
How is the concept of resilience linked to themes in the novel?

This image of the distant African coast passes throughout history as a symbol of the purity and purity of
nature, the simple life, reminiscent to some extent of the image of the untouched beauty and whiteness
of the snowy Mount Kilimanjaro. Along with the humility that comes with age, with life experience, old
lives and pride. He knows why he was born into the world: "You are born to be a fisherman, as a fish is
born to be a fish." The old man knows about his physical weakness, but he also knows something else -
that he has the will to win. “I care not for her victory,” said he, “for all her size and for all her beauty.
Although this is unfair, he added, I will prove to her what a man is capable of and what he can endure.
What is the author saying about the role of resilience in people’s lives?

For the first time, Hemingway's character does not feel alone in this hostile and cruel world! For the first
time he achieves harmony with nature and the people around him. The character had a long way to go
to reach such a life-affirming conclusion.

The main thing about "The Old Man and the Sea" is that this work is marked by the high human wisdom
of the writer. He embodies the humanistic ideal that Hemingway seeks throughout his journey, claiming
that it is impossible to defeat a man. The sea is life, the sharks tearing apart the huge fish, the last hope
for success are enemies and treacherous friends.

How do characters work together to show resilience as a community and overcome a social challenge
together?
In the book Santiago, and Manolin continually treat each other with kindness, love, and respect. The
friendship between Santiago and Manolin plays a critical part in Santiago's victory over the marlin, in
fact, part of the reason that Santiago decides not to give up when fighting the marlin, is because he fears
that Manolin will be disappointed in him, if he releases the fish.
"Can you really remember that or did I just tell it to you?”
"I remember everything from when we first went together."" (Ernest Hemingway 12-13)
