1. Writing checklist for self/ peer assessment
Below is a checklist for writing cause and effect paragraphs. Use it to check your own writing, or
get a peer (another student) to help you.

Does the topic sentence clearly state the main idea
of the paragraph?
Does the paragraph have a concluding sentence that
rephrases the topic sentence (or summarizes the

sentences, and one concluding sentence in the
paragraph?
Are relevant examples and/or other supporting

2. Additional topics for writing practice

Brainstorm ideas, make an outline, and practice writing paragraphs on the


following topics. Remember to write at least 120 words.

1. Write a paragraph about the reasons why people like to eat out.

2. Write a paragraph about the causes and/ or effects of global warming.

3. Write a paragraph analyzing the effects of social media on a person’s relationships.

1 The following are the reasons why people like to eat out. First eating out is an opportunity to
try new tasty, new food. If you are curious about trying new food, going to a restaurant is the
perfect chance to taste a cuisine or a simple dish you may have never tried before. Second
eating out saves time. The present time peopel very busy with their work so they don’t have
time for cook.Therefore, people alway choose eating out to save time.In addition eating out
can inspire you at home in the kitchen. Try new dishes that can inprite the kitchen at home,
once you have tasted something delicious it can movate you to enjoy it at home by cook it with
your own hands. In short eating out can create many good opportunities for you but it also has
disadvantages such as costly, do not know the source of the food. To be able to eat out safely
you need to choose restaurant with reasonable prices and safe food.
