Windows 7 won't update error Last updated March 23,

80072EFE 2021

Before I start, Yes I know Windows 7 is no longer supported, and Views 7,559
I'm susceptible to malware and so on. I need to use Windows 7
for work as I have some software disks that aren't playing nicely Applies to:
with Windows 10. The problem is some software won't run on 7
because I'm missing important updates, but I can't update Windows / Windows 7 /
because I'm getting this 80072EFE error. Windows update,
recovery, & backup

I've tried disabling Windows Update and deleting the contents of

the SoftwareDistribution folder, but that hasn't worked. I've also
tried reinstalling the network drivers, using a PCIE network card,
using the Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone and even going as far as to
reinstall Windows. Furthermore, I've also added the Microsoft
update links to the firewall and even disabling it. I'm all out of
options, and I'm wondering if someone can please help?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately the update didn't work, and I'm still
getting the same error, after installing the update
CH
manually.

Are you by any chance lacking Service Pack 1?

Hi again, your solution actually worked in the end.

After leaving the system on for a few hours, I saw the
update notification but the Windows update was still
giving me the error. After restarting to complete the
CH updates, Windows update is thankfully now working.
Thank you for your help and saving me from hours
of headache.

Thanks Volume Z! I was having the same problem

after reinstalling Win7pro. Same error message &
VZ after 3 days of exhaustive frustrating delving into
arcane online "solutions" I found your life saver & it
worked! The sun shineth. Thanks a million!!
