Chapter 1: The Battlefield of the Mind

In the vast arena of the professional world, where deadlines clash like swords and
responsibilities weigh heavy as armor, the modern working professional finds
themselves on a battlefield much like that of Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. As we
navigate the intricacies of corporate life, relationships, health, and finances, the echoes
of Arjuna's initial dilemma reverberate within our minds. It is on this battlefield that we
begin our journey towards inner peace, drawing inspiration from the timeless teachings
of the Bhagavad Gita.

Arjuna's Dilemma: A Mirror to Modern Struggles

In the opening verses of the Bhagavad Gita, we witness Arjuna, a skilled warrior and a
key figure in the epic Mahabharata, standing amidst the battlefield of Kurukshetra. As
he prepares for battle, a deep sense of despair engulfs him. Arjuna is torn between duty
and compassion, honor and love, as he recognizes his own kith and kin on the opposing
side. The inner turmoil he experiences is strikingly similar to the conflicts faced by
today's professionals.

In our modern context, the corporate battlefield is not one of physical combat, but rather
a psychological and emotional struggle. The pressures of meeting deadlines, achieving

targets, and balancing personal and professional life create a tumultuous environment.
Just as Arjuna faced a moral crisis, professionals grapple with ethical decisions, the
weight of responsibility, and the ever-present fear of failure. The chaos of the mind
becomes a common thread, weaving our experiences with that of Arjuna.

Parallels to the Modern Professional's Struggles

Arjuna's dilemma becomes a mirror reflecting the multifaceted challenges of the

contemporary professional. The relentless pursuit of success, the constant demand for
productivity, and the sacrifices made for career advancement mirror the sacrifices
Arjuna contemplates on the battlefield. The struggle to balance personal relationships
with the demands of work adds another layer of complexity, echoing Arjuna's battle
between familial ties and his duty as a warrior.

The corporate battlefield, much like Kurukshetra, is teeming with conflicting priorities,
creating a storm within the minds of professionals. The pressures of performance,
competition, and the fear of the unknown future contribute to a pervasive sense of
stress and anxiety. It is within this context that we turn to the Bhagavad Gita for
guidance, seeking the ancient wisdom that transcends time and offers a path to
navigate the chaos.

Chapter 2: Understanding Dharma in
the Workplace
As we stand on the precipice of our corporate battlefield, much like Arjuna at
Kurukshetra, it is imperative to delve into the profound concept of Dharma—the guiding
principle that determines our duty and ethical responsibilities. In the Bhagavad Gita,
Arjuna's initial dilemma revolves around his duty as a warrior, his Dharma, and the
conflict between familial bonds and the righteous path of a warrior.

Defining Dharma in the Corporate Context:

Dharma transcends the conventional understanding of duty; it is the moral and ethical
compass that guides our actions. In the professional realm, our Dharma is intricately
tied to the responsibilities we hold—towards our colleagues, superiors, clients, and the
organization as a whole. Understanding and aligning with our professional Dharma
becomes the cornerstone for ethical decision-making and creating a harmonious work
environment.

Identifying Ethical Challenges:

Reflect on your own professional journey. What ethical challenges have you
encountered? Are there instances where personal values clashed with professional
expectations? Identifying these challenges is the first step toward aligning your actions
with your Dharma.
Being true to oneself is known as ethical. Being Authentic. There are no shortcuts to
success so as ethics. The challenge of being authentic is more satisfying than the short
-lived pleasure of being non-ethical.

The Corporate Yogi
By incorporating these action items into your professional life, you embark on a
transformative journey guided by the principles of Karma Yoga, fostering a work
environment rooted in selfless service, mindfulness, and a sense of collective purpose.
Selfless action will demand a lot of time for others. Be careful of people who look for
selfless ones to exploit. Be selfless but without being exploited.

It’s definitely not that easy. There are specific ways how this can be done. When you
book a 1 on 1 call we will discuss in that.

Chapter 3: The Yoga of Action

(Karma Yoga)
In the tapestry of the Bhagavad Gita, the concept of Karma Yoga unfolds as a guiding
philosophy, presenting a path for the modern professional to navigate the complexities
of the corporate world. Karma Yoga is not merely a physical practice but a way of
engaging with one's duties and responsibilities in a manner that transcends the self,
fostering a sense of purpose and selflessness.

Understanding Karma Yoga:

Karma Yoga encourages us to perform our duties with dedication, without attachment to
the outcomes. In the corporate context, this means immersing ourselves wholeheartedly
in our work while relinquishing the undue stress associated with success or failure. By
focusing on the process rather than fixating on results, we discover a profound shift in
perspective that can alleviate the burdens of our professional journey.

Embracing Selfless Action:

Arjuna, faced with the moral dilemma on the battlefield, was instructed by Lord Krishna
to perform his duties selflessly. Similarly, in our professional lives, we can approach our
tasks with a sense of dedication, recognizing that our work contributes to a greater
purpose beyond personal gain. By embracing selfless action, we break free from the
chains of ego-driven desires and foster a harmonious work environment.

Ganga Narayan Das P a g e 16 | 58

The Corporate Yogi
Aligning Actions with Higher Purpose:

Karma Yoga invites us to align our actions with a higher purpose. Reflect on the broader
impact of your work—how does it contribute to the well-being of your team,
organization, or society? By recognizing the significance of your contributions, you
infuse your actions with a deeper meaning that transcends individual aspirations.

Balancing Ambition with Detachment:

Ambition is a driving force in the professional realm, propelling us towards success.

However, Karma Yoga teaches us to balance ambition with detachment. While setting
goals and striving for excellence, we learn to detach from the need for external
validation or the fear of failure. This balanced approach liberates us from the emotional
roller coaster often associated with career pursuits.

Practical Application in the Workplace:

Consider how you approach your daily tasks. Are you driven solely by the desire for
recognition and advancement? Karma Yoga challenges you to shift your focus to the
intrinsic value of your work. Find joy and fulfillment in the act of doing rather than
fixating on the end result. This shift not only enhances your well-being but also
positively impacts your work environment.

Cultivating Mindful Work Practices:

Mindfulness becomes a key ally in practicing Karma Yoga. Incorporate moments of

mindfulness into your work routine—whether it's taking a few deep breaths before a
meeting or pausing to appreciate the significance of a completed task. These moments
of awareness connect you to the present, fostering a sense of purpose in each action.

Ganga Narayan Das P a g e 17 | 58

The Corporate Yogi
The Role of Intention in Karma Yoga:

Set clear intentions for your work. What do you hope to achieve beyond personal
success? By infusing your tasks with positive intentions, you elevate your actions to a
level of selfless service. This intentional approach transforms mundane tasks into
meaningful contributions.
Intentions are powerful. They can make a best of the things appear worst and vice
versa. Try to understand Intentions, not by judging but by prolonged observation. Takes
time. Not only observe others intention, before that watch out for YOURS.

Breaking the Chains of Frustration:

Karma Yoga liberates us from the chains of frustration and disappointment. Recognize
that not every project will unfold as planned, and setbacks are inherent in the
professional journey. By approaching challenges with equanimity, you cultivate
resilience and maintain a steady course amid uncertainties.

Building a Culture of Collective Contribution:

Extend the principles of Karma Yoga to your team or workplace. Encourage a culture
where individuals view their contributions as integral parts of a collective effort.
Fostering a sense of shared purpose creates a supportive and collaborative work
environment.
Purpose driven work is more enriching, fulfilling, satisfying even if not completely
accomplished. Target/Goal driven activities lead more towards frustration, stressful and
anxiety driven than the purpose driven. Ones purpose can be broken down to short or
long term Goals. But a Goal without a purpose is selfish and sucking. Purpose driven
life is self-motivated and encouraged. Even in the midst of disappointment and failure.

Reflecting on Your Karma Yoga Journey:

Conclude this chapter by reflecting on your journey into Karma Yoga. How have you
applied the principles of selfless action in your professional life? What transformations
have you observed in your approach to work? The integration of Karma Yoga into your

Ganga Narayan Das P a g e 18 | 58

The Corporate Yogi
daily practices lays the groundwork for a more purposeful and fulfilling professional
existence.

Chapter 3: The Yoga of Action

(Karma Yoga) Action Items
1. Self-Reflection on Professional Approach:
Begin by reflecting on your current approach to work. Identify instances where you
may be overly attached to outcomes or where personal desires overshadow the
intrinsic value of your contributions.

2. Identification of Intrinsic Values:

Define the intrinsic values associated with your work. What aspects of your tasks
bring you joy and fulfillment beyond external rewards? Recognize the inherent worth
in the process of doing rather than solely focusing on achievements.

3. Setting Higher Purpose Intentions:

Set clear intentions for your work that extend beyond personal success. Consider
the broader impact of your contributions on your team, organization, or society. Craft
meaningful and positive intentions that guide your actions.

4. Balancing Ambition with Detachment:

Evaluate your career ambitions and goals. Assess whether there is an unhealthy
attachment to external validation or fear of failure. Practice detachment by focusing
on the journey rather than fixating on the outcomes.

5. Mindful Work Practices:

Integrate mindfulness into your work routine. Before starting a task or entering a
meeting, take a few moments to breathe deeply and center yourself. Cultivate
awareness of the present moment to enhance the quality of your actions.

Ganga Narayan Das P a g e 19 | 58

The Corporate Yogi
This basically means, be attentive to your surroundings. A little distraction may cost
you a lot. So mindful people often remember things, make notes, take things
seriously and understand the consequences of not doing something in the right time.

6. Recognizing the Inherent Value of Tasks:

Train your mind to recognize the inherent value of each task, irrespective of its
scale. Whether it's a routine assignment or a major project, acknowledge the
significance of your contributions in the larger context of your work.

7. Cultivating Positive Intentions Daily:

Begin each day by cultivating positive intentions for your work. Visualize how your
efforts contribute to the well-being of your team, organization, or community. This
practice sets a positive tone for the day ahead.

8. Expressing Gratitude for Achievements:

Develop a habit of expressing gratitude for achievements, both big and small.
Acknowledge the collective effort involved and the positive outcomes that result from
your contributions. This fosters a sense of satisfaction and joy.

9. Maintaining Equanimity in Challenges:

When facing challenges or setbacks, practice maintaining equanimity. Rather than
succumbing to frustration or disappointment, approach difficulties with a calm and
steady mindset. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.

10. Encouraging Collective Contribution:

Extend the principles of Karma Yoga to your team or workplace. Encourage a
culture where individuals view their contributions as integral parts of a collective
effort. Foster collaboration and teamwork to create a supportive work environment.

11. Regular Reflection on Karma Yoga Journey:

Conclude each week by reflecting on your journey into Karma Yoga. Note instances
where you successfully applied the principles of selfless action and the positive
impact it had on your well-being and work environment.

Ganga Narayan Das P a g e 20 | 58

The Corporate Yogi
By actively engaging with these action items, you embark on a transformative journey
guided by the principles of Karma Yoga, paving the way for a more purposeful and
fulfilling professional existence.
Even if you could implement any one of the above, your life will not be the same.

Chapter 4: Detaching from Fruits of

Labor (Vairagya)
In the relentless pursuit of success, professionals often find themselves tethered to the
outcomes of their efforts, experiencing joy in success and despair in failure. The
Bhagavad Gita introduces the concept of Vairagya, a state of detachment, inviting the
modern professional to break free from the emotional entanglements with the fruits of
their labor.

Understanding Vairagya:

Vairagya does not imply a withdrawal from professional endeavors; instead, it

advocates a shift in perspective. It encourages professionals to detach from the
obsession with success or the fear of failure, enabling them to navigate the
unpredictable currents of the corporate world with equanimity.

Breaking the Chains of Success-Failure Dichotomy:

Arjuna, like many professionals, faced the dichotomy of success and failure on the
battlefield. The Bhagavad Gita encourages us to recognize that these dualities are
inherent in any endeavor. By detaching from the emotional extremes associated with
success and failure, professionals can foster a sense of inner calm and resilience.

Embracing a Balanced Work Ethic:

Vairagya does not advocate apathy or indifference toward work. Instead, it promotes a
balanced work ethic—one where professionals invest their best efforts while releasing

Ganga Narayan Das P a g e 21 | 58

The Corporate Yogi
the need for constant validation. This balance allows for a more sustainable and fulfilling
professional journey.

Cultivating Emotional Equanimity:

In the corporate landscape, where uncertainties are abundant, cultivating emotional

equanimity becomes a valuable asset. Vairagya teaches professionals to approach
challenges with a steady mind, acknowledging that outcomes are often beyond their
control.

Practical Application in the Professional Sphere:

Begin by examining your emotional responses to work-related outcomes. Identify

instances where success led to euphoria or failure resulted in distress. Acknowledge the
emotional roller coaster and recognize that Vairagya offers a path to a more stable and
serene professional existence.

Setting Realistic Expectations:

Vairagya encourages professionals to set realistic expectations. Instead of setting goals

driven by external validation, focus on goals aligned with your values and intentions.
This shift helps in managing expectations and reduces the emotional impact of external
judgments.

Detaching from the Approval of Others:

Professionals often seek approval and recognition from colleagues, superiors, or

external stakeholders. Vairagya invites you to detach from this need for constant
approval, recognizing that true fulfillment comes from aligning with your values rather
than conforming to external expectations.

Balancing Aspiration with Contentment:

Ganga Narayan Das P a g e 22 | 58

In the journey toward inner peace amidst the chaos of the corporate world, the
Bhagavad Gita introduces the transformative path of Jnana Yoga—the Yoga of
Knowledge. This path invites the modern professional to embark on a self-discovery
journey, gaining insights into their true nature and purpose in the workplace.

Exploring Jnana Yoga:

Jnana Yoga emphasizes the pursuit of self-knowledge as a means to attain inner peace
and fulfillment. It calls for a deep introspection into the nature of the self and the
underlying truths that govern our existence. In the corporate context, this self-
awareness becomes a guiding light, helping professionals make conscious and aligned
choices in their careers.

Understanding the True Self:

One of the key teachings of Jnana Yoga is the exploration of the true self, beyond the
roles and responsibilities that define our professional identity. By discerning the eternal
aspect of the self from the transient roles we play in the corporate world, professionals
can uncover a source of stability and tranquility.

Practical Self-Inquiry in the Workplace:

Begin the journey of self-inquiry by questioning your perceptions of self in the

professional sphere. Ask yourself: Who am I beyond my job title or role? What values
and qualities define my authentic self? This inquiry forms the foundation for aligning
your professional life with your true nature.

Roles in the corporate world are dynamic and ever-changing. Jnana Yoga invites
professionals to embrace the impermanence of these roles and recognize that they are
a part of the broader journey of self-discovery. By cultivating adaptability, individuals
can navigate transitions with grace and resilience.

opposite. Change the perspective and you will see, how things get better. It is we who

samo ’haṁ sarva-bhūteṣu

na me dveṣyo ’sti na priyaḥ
ye bhajanti tu māṁ bhaktyā
mayi te teṣu cāpy aham
Most important is pronunciation. If you get this wrong for the 1st time, you will never be able to
correct it for life. So please be careful.
This is known as repetitive technique.
Step 1:

importance and relevance.
1. What we are looking for?
2. Who am I
3. Who is the Creator? Does God Exist? How to See God? What is the proof?
4. What is the purpose of MY existence? What is the purpose of this creation?
5. What I am supposed to do? What is the ESSENCE of Gita?

Apart from all the Action Items you saw in each Chapter, all that boils down to 5 most
important activities, which includes Meditation.
If you are inspired to continue the learning journey, I invite you to Book a 1 on 1 call and
