1. Objective and scope:


The method statement involves procedure for Slab concreting works specified in the tender document. It
shall be done by experienced workmanship as per the latest and relevant specifications /drawings and to
the full satisfaction of the Engineer-in-charge.

2. Tools and Equipments:


All tools and tackles required for the complete execution and completion of the work shall be arranged well
in advance. The list of tools to be required for the work as follows:-
2.1 Personnel Protective Equipments
2.2 Thermometer
2.3 Hygrometer
2.4 Trowel
2.5 Shovel
2.6 Measuring tape
2.7 Thread or Line Dori etc.
2.8 Needle vibrators (immersion type) with spare needles
2.9 Slump cone as per IS:1199-1959
2.10 Concrete pump or tower crane
Vibrator Needle dia 40 - 50mm to be used for workable concrete in slab.

3. Materials required:
3.1 Approved concrete mix as per IS 10262-2019, IS 4926-2003
3.2 Drinking water as IS 456-2000
3.3 Ordinary Portland Cement as per IS 269-2015
3.4 PVC/concrete cover blocks

4. Engineering works:
As receipt of drawings the Engineer-in-charge shall review the received drawings and discuss with their
senior for any technical doubts and clarifications.

5. Responsibility:
5.1 The Engineer-in-charge will be responsible for implementing everything in this method statement.
5.2 Safety officer will ensure that all safety procedures and measures are implemented in relation to the
type of work being done according to the project’s HSE plan.
5.3 QA/QC representative will be responsible for the implementation of QA/QC works as spelled out in
the Quality Management Plan.

6.2.15 Proper house keeping
6.2.16 Start the work only after ensuring that it is safe in all respects
6.2.17 Identify assembly point
6.2.18 Emergency contact will be annexed in Project Safety Plan

6.3 Recovery Measures:


6.3.1 In case any undesired event or incident does happen at the work site or residential camp, in spite
of the essential HSE protection systems and procedures are in place, the same shall be handled in
such a way as to reduce the severity of human injury or damages and to regain control within the
least possible time.
6.3.2 In incidents of major nature such as those resulting in fatalities, severe human injuries, fire and
explosion and natural calamities like rain, wind, sand storm etc.
6.3.3 Work will be stopped immediately and appropriate emergency response procedures adopted as
per procedures of company.
6.3.4 The matter will be communicated to key personnel by the easiest available means, seeking
assistance and advice.
6.3.5 Further work will be started only on getting clearance from senior management.
6.3.6 Tool box meeting will be conducted of all employees to explain the HSE part of the incident and
the corrective/control measures that are essential to prevent further occurrences of similar
incidents.
6.3.7 Detailed investigation will be made into the incident, other than natural calamities, and the
learning points disseminated to the work force.
6.3.8 In less serious cases, first aid or clinical aid shall be extended to injured victims if any and the
matter intimated to all concerned. Adequate first aid boxes shall be in place and trained first
aiders provided at site.

7. Sequence of work:
7.1 Preparation for Slab concreting:
7.1.1 The Engineer-in-charge will ensure all necessary platforms are made with handrails around slab
to execute the work.
7.1.2 Required level of concrete shall be marked on the formwork as per drawing.
7.1.3 Needle vibrator shall be arranged, in working condition with spare needle.
7.1.4 Support to formwork shall be checked properly and shall be ensure tighten and rigid.
7.1.5 Site Engineer shall ensure all parameters of works are in place.
7.1.6 The position and arrangement of construction joints shall be as shown in the structural drawings
or as directed by the Engineer-in-charge. The number of these joints should be kept minimum
and shall be kept as straight and shear key must be made as per IS 456-2000.
7.1.7 When the work to be resumed on old concrete surface which has hardened, such surface shall be
roughened, clean and wetted with water thoroughly.
7.1.8 For vertical joints, the cement slurry shall be applied over existing concrete surface immediately
before placing of the concrete, this will help to avoid the cold joint “in case of normal concrete.”

7.2 Procedure for Slab concreting:


7.2.1 If ambient temperature is more than 40-degree Celsius, concreting work must stop or need to
plan early in the early morning or at night shift.
7.2.2 Concrete mix shall be checked in term of required workability by slump cone test and batch sheet
to conform the grade of concrete.
7.2.3 Concrete temperature should not more than 32 degree Celsius during pouring.
7.2.4 Normal concrete shall be filled in formwork in layers not more than 200 mm and vibrator shall
be applied immediately in the concrete and not more than 5-15 seconds throughout the depth of
concrete layers and shall be compacted properly.
7.2.5 In case of Self-compacting concrete, the concrete shall be filled in layers and compacting with
rubber hammer by tamping over vertical surface of formwork to expel the entrapped air of
concrete in formwork.
7.2.6 Concrete should be placed in position within 3 hours from mixing time at batching plant.
7.2.7 Required level shall be maintained in the final layer of concrete placing by finished it properly.
7.2.8 Interval in concrete placing shall not more than 30 minutes to avoid cold joints in concrete layers.
7.2.9 Shear key shall be provided by inserting of wooden batons in concrete at construction joint
(according to drawing).

7.3 Curing of concrete structures:


After completion and final setting of concrete, curing shall be done for a period at least 7 days for
concrete mix without Fly ash and 10 days for concrete mix with Fly ash.
Curing compound may be applied over concrete surface if water curing is not feasible.

7.4 Miscellaneous:
The completed works shall be inspected and any left out items, minor defects if any, shall be rectified
immediately.

8. Documentation: RFI and checklist shall be maintained by site Engineer for concreting work.
