2. OBJETIVES:
2.1 GENERAL

Recognize how the natural phenomenon called (Eclipse) developed in different

geographic regions. We do this to analyze this event, through the collection of
information.

2.2 SPECÍFIC

• Compare the perspective in the different regions (Ecuador, Colombia, and Mexico) of
the solar eclipse that occurred this year (Saturday, October 14)
• Compare the specific time to the duration of the solar eclipse.
• Analyze the characteristics.

3. METHODOLOGY
Compare the duration of the solar eclipse, researching and compiling annexes and above all be able
toreach a clear, concise and precise conclusion about the solar eclipse.

5. THEORICAL FRAMEWORK
Eclipse:
Obscuration of a celestial body by another celestial body. There are two types of eclipses: lunar
eclipses or lunar eclipses and solar eclipses or solar eclipses. (GEOGRAPHIC, 2023) A lunar eclipse
occurs whenthe earth is between the sun and the moon and the shadow covers the moon, a solar eclipse
occurs when the moon is between the sun and the earth, and the shadow is reflected on the earth's
surface. Transits and eclipses are similar astronomical phenomena, but not as spectacular as eclipses
because they are small. (Aguaguiña, 19 septiembre 2023).

Types of eclipses
There are three types of eclipses: partial and annular. Not all solar eclipses are the same. The part
of the Sun that covers the Moon determines whether the eclipse is partial, annular or total. A solar
eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, partially or completely
blocking our view of the Sun and casting a shadow on the Earth. If you have seen an eclipse at
night, then you have seen a lunar eclipse. A partial eclipse occurs when the Moon covers only part
of the Sun. During a partial solar eclipse, the darkest shadow of the Moon, the umbra, does not
touch the Earth. Only the partial shadow, the penumbra, is cast on the Earth. (Hans Lippershey,
2022-2023)

Annular Eclipse:
An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon does not completely cover the Sun, leaving a "ring of fire"
around the Moon. During an annular eclipse, the Sun, Moon, and Earth are perfectly aligned, but the
Moon is further away from the Earth (the Moon's orbit is elliptical and its distance from the Earth varies
by 30,000 miles). The greater distance prevents the Moon from completely blocking our view of the
Sun. Instead, a ring of light can still be seen around the Moon. For this reason, annular eclipses are often
called"ring-of-fire" eclipses. Annular eclipses are interesting, but they do not offer the same breathtaking
spectacle as total solar eclipses: the sunlight diminishes, but the sky does not; the Sun's outer atmosphere
(corona) is not visible; and eclipse glasses must be worn throughout the event. (Kepler, 27 de diciembre
de 1571).

Eclipse Solar Total

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely blocks our view of the Sun, exposing the Sun's
outer atmosphere or corona. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is directly between the Sun and
the Earth, when the Moon's shadow falls on the Earth. When you are in the middle of this shadow
(umbrella), the Moon completely blocks your view of the Sun, allowing you to see the Sun's outer
atmosphere (corona). If you are somewhere with significantly more twilight, you will see a partial eclipse.
(Riba, 2023)

Essential Facts About Total Solar Eclipses

On average, they occur every 18 months. From the same place on Earth, one is seen approximately
every 300-400 years. The period of time when the Sun is completely covered by the Moon is called
totality. It can last from a few seconds to more than seven minutes. At this time, you can take off
your sunglasses and look with confidence at the Sun's corona, which is as bright as the full moon.
(Estrella, 14 October 2023) The area where the umbrella touches the ground is called the path of
totality. You have to be in this path to see the eclipse. The Moon's shadow travels across the Earth
atmore than 1,000 miles per hour during an eclipse, so if you are standing on the Moon (or orbiting
theEarth in a space station), you may see a dark shadow travelling across the Earth. (Aguaguiña,
19 septiembre 2023)

1. PROCEDURE:

1. First, we get the materials.

2. Then we start to follow the steps given by the teacher.
3. Cut the cardboard into two small squares.
4. Cut out a piece of aluminium foil.
5. Paste the aluminium foil into the hole in the cardboard.
6. Punch a small hole in the centre of the aluminium foil.
7. Place a sheet of Boom paper on the other end of the cardboard on the inside.

2. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMENTIONS.

CONCLUSIONS:
a) We have come to the conclusion that in the different countries that we investigated
aboutthe eclipse we were able to notice that the latitude of each country is different.
b) We were also able to observe that in the countries we investigated (Mexico, Colombia
and Ecuador) the colors of the eclipse are different.
c) We observed that, in each of the countries investigated, the duration of the eclipse
had adifferent time in some, in others it lasted longer and in others less.
d) In the countries we investigated, in some it was completely dark and in the other, it
seemed like a normal day since it did not happen as we were given the corresponding
information about how the eclipse was going to happen. (Aguaguiña, September 19,
2023)

RECOMENDATIONS:
1. Have all the appropriate materials to be able to make the camera with which we can view
the eclipse.
2. Take photos with a device that has a high-quality camera to be able to observe better.
3. Also, to better observe the eclipse, I would recommend the following.
4. Do not look directly at the sun without adequate protection.
5. Do not use inappropriate items to view the eclipse.
6. Prepare in advance.
