1. OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this method statement is to specify the detailed requirements and
procedures for the carrying out the construction of “Installation & testing of GRP Water
Furthermore, this method statement shall be strictly adopted by Contractor, not only to
accomplish the above mentioned task, but to strictly abide by the safety rules and

This method statement specifies the sequence and methodology for the installation &
testing of GRP Water tanks in different sizes like 1x1x1m, 3x3x3m, 4x3x3m,5x3x3.5m etc.
Works shall be carried out in compliance with the approved drawings, project specifications and
materials for the Construction of the King Salman International Complex for Maritime

5. RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports to the Project Manager and will be in-charge of all activities. He will coordinate
with all parties and ensure site works are progressing in time and with good quality.
Reports to the Construction Manager and will be in-charge of the construction work. He
will make sure that the work is in accordance with the approved drawings and
specifications.
Develops and carry out procedures with the organization that effectively eliminate
accident and health exposures in the company/site.
Create and maintain safe working conditions in all operations. He will also assist the Site
Engineer to organize the work area so that workers can perform their duties safely and
with maximum efficiency. Before the start of the work, he will inspect the equipment and
tools and submit reports as required.

Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the quality management system.
He will monitor all the quality related activities of the project.
Reports to the QA/QC manager and is responsible for the verification of Quality and the
management of the Quality system of the works.

5.9 Surveyor
Surveyor will ensure the projection, location, orientation, verticality, elevation and

1. All material received at site shall be inspected, handled and stored upon receipt in
accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
2. All received materials will be checked by the storekeeper, project engineer and QC for
conformance to the project specification, material approval, delivery note.
3. All materials will be protected against grave weather condition and deterioration.
4. If necessary to store the materials outdoors, elevate well above ground and enclose it
with durable waterproof wrapping.

6. Extra care will be observed in unpacking the wooden crate during inspection to
prevent any damage.
7. Do not subject the tank and accessories wooden crate to rough handling which can
result in damage to the components housing or its finish.
8. Open up the tank components crate with care using the nail puller and check for
concealed damage during transport.
9. Restore the tank components wooden crate if the units are not required for immediate
assembly/installation and need to be stored for some time.
10. Protect the water tanks components from any mechanical damage during storage and
handling. Upon withdrawals from the site store pre-inspect the material for any
damage during storage.
8. PROCEDURE
1. The installation area will be pre-inspected for cleanliness and readiness for the start
of the installation works.
3. Prepare tools/equipment and molded pieces and accessories of GRP tanks for
installation.
4. Identify all components and check them against the part list.
5. Check the base supports for the level and overall dimensions to ensure that the
manufacturer’s recommendations have been complied with.

6. Prior to the start of assembly/installation of the water tank verify the location for

if needed. Correct any unsatisfactory conditions detrimental to the proper and timely
completion of the installation.

dimensional requirements of the manufacturer for the tank installation.

supply piping and other MEP services installation.

1. Before assembling the tank, check following points for footing and foundation.
A. FOOTING
B. FOUNDATION
If some space exists between the footing and the foundation, set an iron plate
spacer (min. 40mmx40mm) and place beneath the footing.
Fasten the footing on the foundation with anchor bolts at several points to
protect movement and tumbling of tank.

1. The surface of the panel should be thoroughly cleaned before applying the
sealants and patches.
3. The sealants and patches applied to the panels should be handled carefully to
avoid any damages.
4. Fastening order and standard torque. Bolts shall be fastened in the order
shown below FIG. 3.
8. Clean and wipe all panel flanges to remove grease and dirt before application
of the strip mastic.

10. Install the reinforcing angle to the different assembly and tighten bolts.
11. Assemble the GRP tank starting from the bottom, sides and roof panels
together.
12. Install the GRP tank internal and external accessories, corner block, and
nozzle and stay bolt.
13. Tightening of bolts and nuts will be done by turning only the nut to prevent the
bolt thread from damaging the panels and the strip mastic.
14. During assembly of tank panels, bolts will only be hand tightened until all
panels are in place.
15. Verify the tightness of all bolts and nuts as the installation progresses.
16. Neatly trim any mastic which has been pushed out of the flange joints.
17. Connect the supply and discharge pipes to the GRP tank.
18. Support the discharge and supply piping separately so that the weight of
piping system does not rest on the GRP tank.
19. Install the GRP tank accessories, supports, ladder, valves and other
equipment’s as indicated on the approved drawing.
20. Install electrical devices as per the GRP tank installation requirements and
usage.
21. Verify the electrical wiring installations are as per the manufacturer’s
Recommendation and requirements, obtain approval from electrical.

22. Complete all the piping installation works and pressure test to make the
system ready for the final connections.
23. Complete the installation of the electrical instrument inside the GRP tanks and
submit a full assembly inspection, prior to the tank standing leak test.
1. Secure the installation approval from PID for the GRP tank installation.
2. The electrical instruments within the tank will be installed before the leakage
test.
3. The seismic restraints to the tank (where required) will be installed before the
leakage test if the tank bolting system is subject to loosening during the
installation of restraint materials.
4. Clean the inside of the GRP tank from any construction leftovers.
5. Flush with clean water the inside portion of the GRP tank.
7. Fill the GRP tank with clean water up to the overflow level.
9. First inspection will be conducted right after when the tank will be full of water
and without leakage.
10. Second inspection will be after 24 hours after the first inspection time.

11. Any leakage develop during the test duration will be rectified and retested as
per the manufacturer’s recommendations (by tightening bolts, checking and
rectification of gaskets etc.).
12. Clean and dry the tank after passing the leakage test. Close & seal all
openings of the tank to prevent contamination.
The Quality Control Supervisor shall monitor all relevant documentation, test reports and
clearing out of all Non-Conformances Report. The Civil QC Supervisor shall coordinate
with other discipline to ensure that all other disciplines activities need to be inspected
The QC inspector will ensure that all work is executed according to Project Drawing &
Specification.
Inspection will be carried out according to the approved ITP and Checklist.
