7th Semester
Final Term Examination (Fall-2019)
Note: Attempt all questions. Programmable calculators and any type of material regarding this
course are NOT allowed. Design Aids, if required, will be provided by the examination
staff.
Q. No. 1: The structural configuration for the Hall is provided in figure-01. For the given Hall
with service super imposed dead load of 80 psf and service live load of 60 psf;
(a) Analyze the slab for flexure demand. (CLO-2, 10)
(b) Design the slab. (CLO-3, 10)
(c) Develop a clear drawing showing reinforcement in plan & a section along short
direction. (CLO-3, 05)
Column size = 18″ × 18″, Beam width = 15″ and depth including slab = 30″.
Take fc′ = 3 ksi and fy = 60 ksi. Use #4 bar only for flexure in slab.

Q. No. 3: Layout of a two-way slab system with beams running on column centerlines is shown
in figure-03. The slab supports a live load of 60 psf and superimposed dead load of 40
psf. It is required to;
(a) Analyze the slab for flexure and determine load on short span beams using ACI
coefficient method. (CLO-2, 15)
(b) Design the slab. (CLO-3, 05)
(c) Develop a clear drawing showing reinforcement in plan & a section along short
direction. (CLO-3, 05)
Column size = 15″ × 15″, Beam width = 15″ and depth including slab = 24″.
Take fc′ = 3 ksi and fy = 60 ksi. Use #4 bar only for flexure in slab.

Q. No. 4:
a) Explain the limitations of Direct Design Method. (CLO-1, 05)
b) Explain, why high strength concrete use in prestressed members? (CLO-1, 2.5)
c) Explain different types of failures in retaining wall. (CLO-1, 2.5)
Q. No. 5: Analyze Simply supported RC slab bridge shown in figure-04, with span length of 45
ft. center to center of bearings. Allow for a future wearing surface of 3-inch-thick
bituminous overlay. For live load, use HL-93 live load model.
Use fc′ = 4 ksi, fy = 60 ksi. (CLO-2, 15)
