based solders to repair product made with lead-free solder may result in damage to the
component and or PCB being soldered. Great care should be made to ensure high-quality
soldering when servicing this product – especially when soldering large components, through-
hole pins, and on PCBs - as the level of heat required to melt lead-free solder is high.

Adjustment
The power button in this machine uses DC (direct current). Therefore, if the AC power cord is
connected to an AC wall outlet, power is supplied to the main board, the operation unit and other
modules even when the power is turned OFF. When replacing the controller board and the
operation unit in this state, not only these boards, it will damage other electrical components.
So, when performing maintenance work such as replacing parts, in addition to turning off the
power with the power button, always unplug the AC power cord.
When you disconnect the power cord from the AC wall outlet, inside the machine there
is still residual charge.
When you disconnect the power cord from the AC wall outlet, inside the machine for a while

Overview
6. DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS
6.1 OVERVIEW
Descriptions
Detailed
Principle of the Touch Sensor
• The light emitters [A], the same as with the D6500/D8400, are along the left, right and
bottom sides of the bezel.
• At the upper inside of the bezel, there are six photo-detector modules [B].
• Each photo-detector module contains a pair of photo-detection elements [C] to detect the
brightness, and a screen [D].
• The ratio of light-receiving intensity on the two photo-detection elements changes depending
on the light-source position and the presence or absence of a shield, such as a pen. The
shielded position is detected from the change in ratio.
SM 6-1 Y306
Features
• Detection of the ratio of light-receiving intensity on the photo-detection elements is analog.
This enables the system to detect fine changes in the position of a pen, enabling the user to
write in small letters.
• Baanto named this system Shadow Sense because the relation of the photo-detection
elements and screen is similar to the principle of a sundial [A].

module but occasionally the pairing is canceled and the pen cannot be operated correctly.
Re-recognize the electric pen according to the Pen Sensor Kit the user is using.
Display Pen Description
Sensor

D6500/D8400 Type 2 Due to the wireless network authorization, cannot re-recognize
the electric pen.
For re-recognizing, replace the receiving module (reception
dongle) with one which has obtained permission for the wireless
network.
• The reception dongle can pair within about ten seconds after the connection.
Perform steps 3 and 4 within 10 seconds.
3. Insert an alkaline battery into the electronic pen.
4. Touch both the pen nib and pen bottom of the electronic pen simultaneously for about two
seconds.
