When installing the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

Server on Windows Server 2012 R2, there are several prerequisites you need
to meet. Let’s go through them:
1. Computer Running Windows Server: Ensure that you have a computer
running a supported version of Windows Server. Windows Server 2012
R2 is the target in this case.

Estimated System Requirements

a) Processor: A 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor is required.

b) RAM: You need at least 512 MB of RAM.
c) Disk Space: Ensure you have at least 32 GB of available disk space.
d) Network Adapter: A network adapter card is necessary.
e) Graphics: Your system should have a graphics adapter that
supports Super VGA (1024 × 768) or higher resolution

2. Static IPv4 Address: Assign a static IPv4

address to the server where you plan to
install the DHCP role. This address will be
used for managing DHCP services.

3. IP Address Range for DHCP Scope: Decide

on an IP address range that your DHCP
scope will cover. This range will be used to automatically assign IP
addresses to clients.

4. Administrator Account: Make sure you have an account

with Administrator privileges (or equivalent) to perform the installation
and configuration tasks.
Now, let’s proceed with the installation and configuration steps:
1. Install the DHCP Server Role:
o You can install the DHCP Server role using either PowerShell or
Server Manager.
o PowerShell:
 Open PowerShell in an elevated session.
 Run the following command:
 Install-WindowsFeature DHCP -IncludeManagementTools
 No reboot is required after installation.
o Server Manager:
 Open Server Manager from the Windows desktop.
 Navigate to “Manage” > “Add Roles and Features.”
 Follow the wizard:
 Select “Role-based or feature-based installation.”
 Choose the destination server.
 Select the “DHCP Server” role.
 Add any required features.
 Complete the installation process.
2. Authorize the DHCP Server in Active Directory:
o If you’re installing DHCP in a domain environment, you must
authorize the DHCP server to operate in the domain.
o Unauthorized DHCP servers won’t function properly and won’t
lease IP addresses to clients.
o Authorizing the server ensures proper operation within the
domain.

Remember to follow these steps carefully, and you’ll have a functional DHCP
server on your Windows Server 2012 R2!
