Chapter 1 Introduction
RNC-1004W is a high efficiency broadband router specially
designed for small business, SOHO and family.
RNC-1004W is an easy to use and simple to configure with
web-based GUI.RNC-1004W integrates powerful management function,
such as system, DHCP, Virtual Server, DMZ host, Firewall, Static Routing,
etc.

1.1 Product Feature


One 10M/100M auto negotiation WAN port, connectible to
XDSL/Cable Modem or Ethernet
Four 10M/100M auto negotiation LAN ports
Compliant with IEEE802.3 Ethernet Standard and IEEE802.3u Fast
Ethernet Standard
Full duplex IEEE802.3x flow control, Half-duplex Backpressure flow

Chapter 2 Hardware Setup


2.1 Rear Panel
Power: For External Power Adapter
Reset: To reset the system to default settings
WAN: WAN PORT (RJ-45) for connection to xDSL/Cable Modem or
Ethernet
LAN Port: 4 RJ-45 ports Connect to Computer and Hub/Switch.
Reset: Press this button for 3 seconds, the LED indicators of SYS
will fast blink. Release the button the router will restore default setting
and restart automatically
Notes: Please use the special power adapter with this router
otherwise it will be damaged.

2.2 Front Panel

ALM System Status Blinks when system ready
LED blinks when WAN port is connected
WAN WAN LED
and data transferred.

LAN LAN LED (1~4) is correct connected and data
transferred.

2.3 Hardware Installation


2.3.1. LAN Connection
Connect the LAN port of the router with Hub or switch with a
UTP/STP cable. You also can connect its LAN port with a computer
LAN card directly.
2.3.2 WAN Connection
Connect the WAN port of the router with LAN port of an
xDSL/Cable Modem with a UTP/STP cable.

2.3.3. Power Connection


Plug in the power adapter. The router will start automatically.

Chapter 3 Router Setting


3.1 Local computer configuration

The default IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1.The default
subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. All these parameters can be amended if
needed but in this manual we will illuminate according the fault
parameters.
First please connect your computer with the LAN port of the router
and then set the IP address of your computer.
Tips: The LED indicators of the Link/Act of the router and the LAN
card of your computer must light at the same time.
If the IP address of your router is 192.168.1.1, then the IP address of
your computer must be 192.168.18.xxx(from 2 to 254), or you can set
the IP address of your computer as “Obtain IP address automatically” to
have the router DHCP server assign an IP address for you.

3.2 Setup Wizard


Click Internet Explore or Netscape Communicator and enter the IP
address of this router (default setting: 192.168.1.1), a user name and
password Login interface will appear.

If the user name and password is correct, a screen of configuration


Wizard will appear.
Tip: The default user name and password are all “admin”.

Click “Next” or Wizard of the menu on the left to select internet


access method. (This router can access internet in 3 ways).
1. If you select PPPoE (ADSL Virtual Dial- up), you need to enter the
following:

Username & Password: Enter your Username and password


provided by ISP. If you don’t know them please refer to ISP
2. If you can access internet with dynamic IP address. Namely, you
can obtain IP address automatically from your ISP .You needn’t write any
parameter and access internet automatically .(If your ISP need to
integrate the MAC address of your LAN card you can clone MAC
address)
3. If you can access internet with fixed IP. Namely, you have the
fixed IP address provide by your ISP address, you need fill in the
following data:

IP address: The router IP address to WAN. If you don’t know them


well please refer to your ISP
Subnet Mask: The router subnet mask to WAN (default setting:
255.255.255.0)
Gateway: Fill in the gateway provide by your ISP, If you don’t know
them well please refer to your ISP
Primary DNS: Fill in the DNS server provide by your ISP, If you don’t
know them well please refer to your ISP
Secondary DNS: Optional. If your ISP provides you with two DNS,
you can fill in the other here.
After filling in all the above parameters please come to
Configuration Wizard following:

Now, please click Save to save the settings.


If you need setup firewall, MAC address Filter, ULR Filter, please
click Security Setting
If you want to setup WAN port parameter, LAN port Parameter and
clone MAC address, please click Advanced Config.
If you need setup DHCP service, please click DHCP Server
If you need startup DMZ, UpnP and Virtual Service, please click
Virtual Server
If you need setup dynamic DNS, modify User information, restart
router, upgrade software, backup currently setting, please click System
Tool.

3.3 Configuration Guide


3.3.1 Running Status
1. WAN
This screen shows the way to access internet and connection status
currently

This screen shows the current status of IP address, DHCP service,
NAT and firewall of this router.

3. Information
This screen shows the current running time, number of clients and
system version

3.3.2 Wizard

3.3.3 Advanced Config
3.3.3.1 LAN Port
This page sets the basic network parameters

IP address: the router IP address to LAN. The factory fault


setting is 192.168.1.1.You can change it if necessary.
Note: If you change the IP address, you must use the new IP

address to log on the router to manage the WEB interface and all
default gateway of computers of the LAN must setup as the new IP
address
Subnet Mask: the default setting is 255.255.255.0.
Note: All subnet masks of computers in the LAN must be same
as the above setting
3.3.3.2 WAN Port Setup
First please select the way you want to access internet, the
fault way is Dynamic IP
1. If you access internet by Dynamic IP, you can obtain IP
address automatically from ISP. If your ISP need integrate the MAC
address of your LAN card, you can clone the MAC address during
setting.

2. If you access internet by Static IP and you have fixed IP


address provided by ISP, you will see the following screen and you
need setting the parameters in the menu.

3. If you access internet by PPPoE, you will see the following


screen and you need set the following parameters:

3.3.3.3 MAC Address Clone
You can select the option to clone the MAC address of the
management computer to that of the WAN port of the router (you
also can modify it manually)

3.3.3.4 DNS
Primary DNS: Fill in the DNS server provide by your ISP, If you
don’t know them well please refer to your ISP
Secondary DNS: Optional. If your ISP provides you with two
DNS, you can fill in the other here.

3.3.4 DHCP Server


3.3.4.1 DHCP Service
To use DHCP server utility, you need set the following
parameters: Enable the DHCP Server
The first address of IP address pool: The beginning address
automatically assigned by DHCP server
The end address of IP address pool: The last address
automatically assigned by DHCP server

Note: to use the function of DHCP Server, the client computers


must be setup as automatically obtain IP address
3.3.4.2 DHCP Client List
DHCP Client List show the assigned IP address, client MAC
address and Host name.

3.3.5 Virtual Server


In the Virtual Server menu, there are four submenus: Virtual Server,
DMZ, UPnP, and UPnP map.
3.3.5.1 Virtual Server
With default settings, computers of WAN have no access to
some computers of the LAN via this router with firewall integrated.
To solve this problem, i.e. to protect the LAN from external attack
and facilitate valid access from WAN, the router provides virtual
server function by defining a server port and all the access claim to
that port is then reallocated to the server in LAN through IP address
To use the virtual service function, you need to setup the
parameters in the menu

Note: If you setup the virtual server with the service port: 80
you need set the option Remote WEB Management of Security
Setting as other parameter, otherwise collision will happen and the
virtual service could work. You need to restart the router to take the
function effect.
3.3.5.2 DMZ
In some special situation, a computer need to exposure
entirely to WAN in order to implement intercommunication. You
need configure the computer as DMZ host

3.3.6.1 Client Filter
You can control the access between computer of LAN and
computer on internet by client filter function.

3.3.6.2 URL Filter
You can control the access of computers in the LAN by URL
filter function, which can filter the URL so that the client can not
access.

3.3.6.3 MAC Filter


You can control the access of the computers in the LAN to the
internet by MAC filter function.

3.3.6.4 Prevent Network Attack

3.3.6.5 Remote WEB Management


This page is to set the web management port of the router and
the IP address of the computer that perform remote web
management.
Port: The executive web management port number
IP Address: The IP address of the computer in WAN that remote
web manages

Notes:
1. The default web management port of the router is 80, if the
web management port is changed (e.g..8080), the user should
input "IP : port number" (e.g.:http://192.168.0.1:8080) to log on the
router and enter the web management interface.
2. The default IP address of computer that perform remote web
manages is 0.0.0.0. With default setting there's no access for
computers in WAN to log on the router and execute the remote web
management. If you change the default setting, there is only
access for computer in WAN to log on the router and execute the
remote web management when the IP address of the computer
(e.g..218.88.93.33) is the same as the modified web management
IP address of the router (e.g.. 218.88.93.33).
3.3.6.6 WAN Port Ping
You can forbid the Ping from Wan by this function

3.3.7.2 Static Route
This page set the static routing function of router and you can
designate static routing rule

Notes:
1. The gateway IP and the Wan or LAN port must belong to the
same network segment.
2. If the target IP address is an IP address of host, the subnet
mask must be 255.255.255.255.
3. The target IP address must match the subnet mask if it is in
IP network segment. For example, if the target IP is 10.0.0.0, the
subnet mask should be 255.0.0.0 and if the target is 10.1.2.0,
subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0
