Battery Testing Procedure
Battery Testing Procedure
BATTERY CHARGER
1.0 Introduction
The following test procedure has been prepared for the testing and commissioning of the Battery
Charger at …………………………………………….. Project India.
All Testing and Commissioning documentation must be produced in accordance with all relevant codes
of practice of India and international standard.
The following test instrumentation & tools will be required to undertake the tests details.
500 Volt Megger
Multimeter, Tong Tester,
Switch Board, Tool Box Kit,
Test Lead with wires and Cables
Any other Test Equipment the Manufacturer deems necessary

5.1.1 Procedure:
Ensure the batteries have an adequate capacity to supply power to steady state loads for eight hours.
Discharge the Battery Set at its 10 hour rate, i.e., at a current equal to 10 % of its rated Ah capacity till
the voltage of any one cell reaches 1.75 V or the total battery close circuit of 55 cells reaches 1.75 × 55 =
96.25 V whichever is earlier
A) Maintain the discharge current within ± 1 percent of the specified rate of discharge. Record the
voltmeter and ammeter readings every 5 min for the first 15 min and thereon every 15 min up to
the end voltage.
B) Note the time in hours elapsing between the start and end of the discharge to the period of
discharge.
C) Measure temperature of the battery terminal on hourly basis from start to end of the test
D) The capacity of the Battery Set is obtained by = discharge current A * time in h as observed
above.
E) For Confirmatory: Check the Voltage after
a) 3 hours < 1.97 V
b) 6 hours < 1.92 V
c) 8 hours < 1.85 V
d) 10 hours < 1.75 V
