Lathe
Lathe
Objective :
The workpiece, which is housed in the machine's base, must be able to move vertically or up and down
thanks to the knee type milling machine. This experiment aims to teach participants about the universal
knee type milling machine and explore the many ways to operate and operate the milling machine.
Working Procedure:
(1) The engine was turned on and the work item was placed in the vice.
(2) To move the table along the x-axis and provide a 0.5 mm depth of cut, a transverse handwheel was
employed.
(3) The auto feed was configured to automatically determine the depth of cut out, and the RPM was set
to 300.
Five) The procedure of down and up milling was used to create an exact 0.5mm cut.
(6) The machine was halted and the process was finished after the desired cut was made.
Discussion:
This experiment involved the use of a down milling procedure. The work piece was made of mild steel. It
should be mentioned that this profession requires highly competent labor. Cutting fluid was found to be
crucial to the cutting process. To give instructions to the machine, one must be well knowledgeable
about the junction box. In order to lower the temperature between the cutter and the work surface,
cutting fluid was also used. The RPM was adjusted based on the material of the work item. The table was
manually operated, and great care was taken to prevent defects.
Lathe Machine
Objective :
A lathe is a machine tool that uses tools applied to the workpiece to construct an
object with symmetry about that axis to spin the workpiece about an axis of
rotation and execute a variety of operations such cutting, sanding, knurling,
drilling, deformation, facing, and turning. The purpose of this experiment is to
discover how a high-speed lathe machine operates, as well as the main
components and typical tasks that it can perform.

8. Lathe Chucks:
Discussion :
Different parts and their applications were taught throughout the lathe machine's
operation. In fact, a variety of procedures were seen and understood. The fluid in
use was BG68. The gear box was used to keep the speed constant. The workpiece
was held in place using a three jaw chuck. Every safety precaution was taken to the
letter. The entire experiment was carried out in two stages, employing turning and
facing operations. A suitable power source was ensured for the trial.
Lathes, dubbed the "mother of machining tools," are useful for many tasks. Shape,
drill, sand, knurling, turn, cut, and deformation are a few of these. Because lathes
are so versatile, they are used by a large number of metalworkers and woodworkers
as the main instrument of their trade.
Assignment
(b) What is the difference between turning and threading?
Turning Threading
Turning is a machining process used to make Thread turning is a demanding operation, where
cylindrical parts in which the cutting tool moves good chip control, consistent tool life and
in a linear fashion while the workpiece rotates. consistent component quality can be difficult to
achieve.
The main objective of turning is to reduce the With threading on a lathe, the production of
workpiece diameter to the desired dimension. external and internal threads is made possible.
c) How does the rotational motion of the lead screw and feed rod is converted into linear motion?
(d) Write the differences between 3-Jaw Universal Chuck and 4 Jaw Independent Chuck
