LIGHTING
1.0 GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. The work specified in this section shall be upheld with all the conditions of the Contract and
all general requirements of the Project with regard to the fabrication, supply, delivery and
installation of luminaire’s designated in this section and in accordance with the Sub-contract
Documents.
B. Provide complete, a luminaire and lamp/light source for each symbol shown on the drawings
unless noted otherwise. The luminaires shall comply in appearance, performance, quality and
construction with the performance specifications, attached product specification sheets,
luminaire diagrams and testing requirements.
C. Provide all labour and materials required for complete installation and commissioning,
including receipt, handling, installation, focusing and final cleaning.
D. All luminaires specified in this section shall be designed for working from an electricity
supply of 230 Volt single phase AC 50 Hertz, according to project requirements and in
accordance with all applicable Project Country standards, unless otherwise specified.
E. All hangers, cables, supports, channels, frames and brackets of all kinds for safely erecting this
equipment in place, shall be furnished from the standard manufacturer's product range and shall
be erected in place under this Section.
F. Contractor shall protect all opening edge in gypsum false ceiling by a protection means to
engineer’s approval.
G. Each lighting fixture shall have a manufacturer's label affixed to it and shall comply with the
requirements of all authorities having jurisdiction.
H. Fixtures shall be wired with approved fixture wire. Each fixture shall be wired to a single point
with adequate slack for proper connections.
I. All fixtures shall be protected from damage during the installation and any broken fixtures,
globes, sockets, stems, and the like, shall be replaced with new parts, without additional cost of
the Employer.
J. The right to select other fixtures of the same quality, without additional cost to the Employer is
reserved by the Engineer regarding the shape of the lighting luminaire.
K. All lighting fixture shop drawings, cuts, etc., shall be complied and submitted in bound
brochures. All loose pages, sheets, clippings, etc., will not be accepted. Catalogue cuts shall
contain sufficient data to evaluate all properties of the fixtures submitted. If requested a sample
of proposal fixture shall be submitted.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

1. Name of Manufacturer for each luminaire/lighting product or system.
2. Catalog cut sheets for all standard products. For non-standard, custom or modified
products a complete datasheet must be provided.
3. Manufacturer product information including cut sheets and ordering code for all
ballasts, lamps, drivers, transformers, test switch / integrated emergency lighting
components.
4. If requested, qualification and experience of Manufacturer on similar projects or with
similar luminaires/lighting product or system.
B. Shop Drawings and Equipment Tests:
1. Detailed shop drawings for any custom luminaire type or modified elements of non-
standard products.
2. Photometric tests (where applicable).
C. Operation and Maintenance Instructions:
1. Lens and/or reflector cleaning procedure.
2. Procedure for replacement of any driver/ballast/transformer and any lamp/light source.
3. Ballast/driver/transformer specification.
4. Specification of any replaceable lamp/light source.
D. Samples and Prototypes:
E. Working, wired sample in specified finish and colour, complying in all respects in appearance,
performance, quality and construction with the performance specifications, attached product
specification sheets, luminaire diagrams and testing requirements.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Compliance: Provide fixtures that comply with the following, and with any additional local
regulations. All products related to lighting and lighting controls shall be sourced from
authorized original manufacturers only. The specialist manufacturers shall be engaged in the
lighting product manufacturing for a minimum period of 10 years.
1. Electrical
a. Electrical supply on site is 230VAC (+10%/−6%), 50Hz, single phase and/or 400VAC
(+ 6% and - 10%) three phase in accordance with local authority. All equipment should
be compatible with this supply.
b. Luminaires should exhibit no perceivable change in light output with a variation of
plus/minus 10 percent supply voltage.
c. Total Harmonic Distortion due to any lighting equipment shall be less than 20%
percent and meet ANSI C82.11 maximum allowable THD requirements at full output.
2. Physical
a. Materials and Finishes
1). Where galvanically incompatible metals are used in the construction of a
luminaire, design must eliminate galvanic corrosion, through separation and/or

insulation.
2). Paints and powder coat finishes should be appropriate for the luminaire’s
proposed location. Equipment should employ finishes which are stable to UV
light and other environmental factors.
3). Any gaskets should be made of materials which do not out-gas chemicals which
can degrade the LED dies or phosphors.
b. Ingress Protection
1). IP Ratings stated in this specification refer to IEC standard.
2). Where IP68 is specified (continuous immersion), test conditions are assumed to
be 3m depth in fresh water, for an indefinite duration after being switched on for
30 minutes, then switched off, unless otherwise specified.
c. Fixing
1). Removable front-plates, reflectors, trim rings, etc should be physically retained to
the luminaire body by means of a wire or chain safety bond.
d. Adjustment and Lockability
1). Where luminaires feature pan and/or tilt adjustability, adjustment in both axes
should be lockable by means of a knurled knob, allen screw or similar. Such
locking mechanisms must not allow for any sag through gravity over time.
e. Assembly
1). Luminaires shall be completely factory-assembled including wiring and accessories
up to the Point of Contact. All Point of Contact connections shall be installed in
an accessible junction box of appropriate IP rating.
3. Maintenance
a. Cleaning
1). It must be possible for all external surfaces of luminaires to be cleaned safely and
easily without the use of chemicals or abrasives, and without disconnecting
power.
b. Replacement Parts and Repair Services
1). Manufacturers should be capable of providing spare parts and/or repair services
for specified equipment for a period of not less than ten years from purchase.
Replacement LED modules and circuit boards should produce the same output in
lumens, colour temperature and CRI, as the original units, regardless of improved
conversion efficiency due to technological development - electrical load may be
lower than the original units.
2). Any replacement of LED module/circuit board or driver electronics should
maintain the same dimming curve as the original luminaire.
3). It should be made clear at time of order whether equipment is serviceable by end-
user or requires Return-to-Base for repair at manufacturer’s facility, so that this
information can be incorporated into contractor’s Operation and Maintenance
manuals at project handover.

4. Light Sources
a. LEDs/LED Modules
1). Colour Consistency
a). The importance of colour consistency between luminaires and over time is
critical to the success of the lighting scheme. The light produced by LEDs
described as the same correlated colour temperature should produce light
that is indiscernible in appearance from other LEDs of the same CCT. It is
the responsibility of the Party producing the final specification to compare
samples of the specified luminaires to ensure this consistency across the
project.
b). The benchmark for acceptable colour consistency between luminaires of
the same type shall be 3 MacAdam ellipse SDCM (Standard Deviation
Colour Matching) for all lighting fixtures. The consistency requirements
for each specified type is indicated in the product specification sheets
included in this document.
c). For lights which are to be retained into legacy, colour of LED lightsources
should not exhibit greater change than four SDCM steps after five years.
d). LM79 / LM80 test report to be submitted for all the lighting products.
2). Colour Rendering
a). Unless specifically stated, a Colour Rendering Index of less than 70 will
not be acceptable for any lightsource.
b). Luminous flux, colour (chromaticity, CCT, CRI) and intensity distribution
shall be measured and stated in compliance with IESNA.
3). Lifetime
a). The lifetime of LEDs shall be stated in terms of L70B10, unless explicitly
stated otherwise within this specification and shall not be lesser than
50000hrs. Measurement shall be in accordance with IESNA, with
extrapolated data in accordance with IES TM. Unless otherwise stated, data
should relate to an ambient temperature of 25° C for interior luminaires and
50° C for exterior luminaires.
4). Thermal Management
a). Luminaire manufacturers shall ensure that sufficient thermal management is
provided within the luminaire to maintain the junction temperature of LEDs
at or below the LED manufacturer’s recommendations. Heat rejection
should be by means of heatsink, convective heatpipes and similar passive
means. Active cooling by means of fan or oscillating diaphragm will not be
acceptable unless explicitly identified in the specification.
5) Dimming Compatibility
a). LED lamps which are dimmable by “mains dimming” shall be compatible
with phase-cut leading-edge Triac dimmers, trailing edge IGBT (transistor)
dimmers, and sinewave dimmers. Lamp manufacturers should provide
sample lamps to the nominated control system supplier so as to verify
dimming compatibility.

a). LED replacement lamps should accurately follow the form factor of the
traditional lamp which they are designed to replace, allowing for direct
replacement in luminaires designed for conventional lamps without
modification.
5. Control Gear
a. Constant Current LED Drivers
1). Constant Current LED drivers shall deliver the designated current (at full
output) +/-5%. 2). Drivers shall have an efficiency of at least 80% and power
factor of at least 0.9.
2) Drivers which are dimmable via a control signal should have a parasitic load whilst
in “off” state not exceeding 0.5w.
3) Drivers which are dimmable by “mains dimming” shall be compatible with phase-
cut leading-edge Triac dimmers, trailing edge IGBT (transistor) dimmers, and
sinewave dimmers. Luminaire manufacturers should provide sample luminaires
containing final specification components to the control system supplier so as to
verify dimming compatibility.
4) Control Protocols
a). LED drivers must be controllable by means of DALI, , as specified item-
by-item in this document. Relevant standards describing each protocol
should be followed.
5) Flicker
a). Drivers and LEDs shall deliver illumination that is free from objectionable
flicker as measured by flicker index (IES RP). At all points within the
dimming range from 100 percent to specified minimum, luminaires shall
have flicker index less than 5% at all frequencies below 1000 Hz.
6) Electrical Protection
a). All drivers should be able to withstand up to a 1,000 volt surge without
impairment of performance as defined by Category A.
b). Drivers should have in-built protection against damage due to a short
circuit or open circuit on the output, and should recover automatically after
fault condition is removed.
c). Drivers must incorporate protection against overload on outputs, such that
no damage is sustained to the driver itself, and should recover
automatically after fault condition is removed.
7) Thermal Protection
a). All drivers should incorporate over-temperature protection. In the case of
ambient temperatures exceeding normal operational conditions, drivers
should reduce output, recovering automatically once ambient temperature
falls back within operational range.
b. Constant Voltage LED drivers/power supplies
1). Constant voltage power supplies shall deliver the designated voltage with ripple
of not more than 10 % (P-P).
2). Power supplies shall have an efficiency of at least 80% and power factor of at

least 0.9.
3). Drivers which are dimmable via a control signal should have a parasitic load
whilst in “off” state not exceeding 0.5w.
4). Control Protocols
a). LED drivers must be controllable by means of DALI, DMX, as specified
item-by-item in this document. Relevant standards describing each protocol
should be followed.
b). DALI devices must carry the DALI logo, indicating compliance testing
with IEC.
5). Flicker
a). Drivers and LEDs shall deliver illumination that is free from objectionable
flicker as measured by flicker index (IES RP). ). At all points within the
dimming range from 100 percent to specified minimum, luminaires shall
have flicker index less than 5% at all frequencies below 1000 Hz.

1). Transformers for low-voltage lamps shall be electronic and have a stable output
voltage of 11.5V/23V, under varying loads, where the output voltage is
nominally quoted at 12V/24V.
2). Ballasts for lamps shall operate lamps at high frequency (>20kHz) and shall be

B. Samples and Mock-Ups
1. Should a sample (in addition to the submittal sample) of a standard, or prototype of a
special luminaire or variant of a standard luminaire be ordered, its cost shall be
incorporated into a tender price.
2. Any such sample prototype or variant shall be a sample of the luminaire type specified, and
shall be submitted to the Lighting Consultant, together with full photometric and
dimensional data if specifically requested, to enable both its accurate assessment and the
detailing of any adjustments deemed necessary prior to the commencement of full
production.
3. Prototypes are required of a series of luminaires where noted in the Luminaire Equipment
Specification.
4. Should any further samples be required for use in mock-ups, their cost shall be
incorporated into a tender price.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. All equipment shall be supplied with adequate means of protection to ensure its preservation
during transport to site and any subsequent storage prior to installation. All vulnerable finished
parts liable to scratching or other abrasion during handling and installation shall be further
protected by a removable film applied prior to dispatch.
B. Products shall be stored in manufacturer’s unopened packaging, out of extreme heat or direct
sunlight, until ready for installation.
C. The luminaires shall be handled with care and as scratches or finger prints are unacceptable.
At the time of acceptance by the Employer, the luminaire’s must be completely clean.
D. Luminaires shall not be switched ON until any and all protective peel is removed from
reflectors and/or lenses.
1.6 FOCUSSING AND ADJUSTMENT
A. All aiming and adjusting shall be carried out after the entire installation is completed and
where possible, units shall be focused during the normal working day. Where daylight
interferes with seeing, aiming shall be accomplished during hours of darkness. Sub-contractor
shall have sufficient manpower and equipment available during aiming hours to permit aiming
to be done efficiently. Aiming shall be done under the direction of Lighting Consultant.
1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Coordinate locations of lighting fixtures with ceilings, ceiling mounted components, fire
protection and mechanical components, and partitions.

B. Maintain environmental conditions within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum
results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer’s
recommended limits.
1.8 WARRANTIES AND SERVICE
A. All luminaires shall be warrantied for a minimum of five years from the date of TOD, or
longer if requested by the client under separate communication. Warranty shall cover the
premature failure or degradation of performance of all components, including LEDs and drive
electronics.
B. Any luminaires found to be defective upon energization post-installation shall be completely
replaced as a whole assembly from the point of contact.
