LLFW Overview
● Program that is similar to Word Study in that students take a placement test to determine the
differentiated level of phonics instruction a student should start; Letter Lessons, First Words, or
Beyond First Words
● Gives appropriate scope and sequence for teaching at each stage along with lesson activities that
are free or can be made with materials already in your classroom.
● Scope and Sequence is based on a developmental progression within each unit/stage. For example:
Letter Lessons begins with students learning the letters of their name then progresses in cycles
that build developmentally. However, you can choose subunit based on what you know about your
students and it does not need to be done in order if a student is proficient in a subunit already.

Creating Your Groups
The reason to create small groups is to differentiate
instruction for a group of learners with similar needs.

1 How do I group my students?

2 What do I do if I have too many groups?

3 What is the goal?
